Great ride! When he turned his head to look out, just past the 1st gear hairpin turn, my gut reaction was, "Oh Nooooo......." as if he had swerved toward the edge. Ride safe.
Great video with no cuts, but clear and concise. You did an excellent job with the upgrades on an already fabulous motorcycle. That is the exact reason I want to get a Halcyon as my next commuter bike, fun bike, grocery getter, etc etc etc. you and I are very similar, I rode sport bikes and sport touring bikes until about Three years ago and I sold my 05 FZ1. Went a couple of years without a motorcycle somehow and the bug bit me again. Probably because I'm getting old, I decided to jump back in on a smaller displacement motorcycle that I could beat to death and customize without regrets. I bought a Lifan kpm 200 for $2800, New out the warehouse... they shipped it of course, and I was able to assemble and check out all the bolts, nuts, fittings and cables. I really took my time because I have always been afraid of Chinese products and especially ones that if they come apart I die. Anyway I have enjoyed it thus far, and I have been customizing All kinds of stuff on it, the quality was surprisingly good TBH on this motorcycle, and it will do over 80mph pinned in 6th with a downward slope 😂😂. Mostly I don't even need to go over 55, and I haven't even needed to get on the interstate. I'm in a rural area in GA, so thankfully I don't have to deal with a lot of traffic and high risk areas to get to work. Although currently happy with this one, I can see getting on to a more personal bike in the future, and I'm seeing Janus as a prime player in the future. They just seem to have something special about them and everything is quite unique in this day and age. I've told myself that I am going to let this bike completely pay for itself in gas savings over my 2021 Camaro SS 1LE, which works out to just one more year and then I am going to have another one picked out and ready to roll out! Originally I was thinking about getting something fast and heavier like a Katana, MT09, Z900RS, ETC ETC. But I saw the Halcyon a few months ago and I just love the look. I'm also very attracted to the company from what I have seen and their commitment to their builds, warranty and availability. I'm thinking about going to the shop in Indiana for a closer look when it warms up to see how everything goes together. Originally I was attracted to the 250 because I'm cheap, and I'm satisfied with the speed of the little bikes to be honest, but I'm trying not to be super hung up on price and I really have to take a look at both of them, 250 & 450 as well. I miss the planted feel of a heavier machine when I'm out on the highway at speed and although the 450 isn't actually "heavy", it will probably feel that way compared to my kpm 200. Ok man I have definitely said enough, thanks for sharing the details of your motorcycle and your thoughts on a beautiful day riding with your friend. The overwhelming satisfaction I hear from most Janus owners is another thing that has me looking very seriously, AND of course, made in the USA. And yes I know the engine is made in China and other parts are made in Australia and I'm sure other countries. But they actually MAKE many of their parts in house too, and local. I've seen many of those 229cc Honda clone engines over the years and you just about can't destroy them, so I have no doubt the motorcycles are dependable. Right on buddy, thanks for listening to my rambling story and lets hope things work out and I find myself making my own Janus video next year... I'm just not sure which one it will be yet. Take care brother.
@@DaveBowen-py3yg Hmm one problem i have seen people discussing is the stock tube tires/AKA bicycle tires. Apparently when there are tubs in them they are much easer to go flat leaving you stranded in a location from a thorn/nail etc. Where many tires these days on motorcycles are tubeless? i could be wrong, any new info regarding this? -Cheers
What a gorgeous area to ride and hike. Reminds me of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. I hold onto the side of the easy chair watching you ride up. I will not ride that road but appreciate you did for us. The Janus motorcycle is unique in itself. 👏 Bravo.
Thank you, Dave! Thank you so much for putting this tour together and taking us along. The walkthrough of your bike modifications was thoughtful and shared much good information. These bikes really provide an excellent foundation to make it your own. I especially loved the gas cap and the battery warning ;-) The scenery of your ride was icing on the cake - well done!
Hey Dave. Love the bike and what you did to it...just learned about Janus and am enjoying digging in. i have family nearby Seattle and would love to see your bike and chat in person when im out that way..ride safe!
What a beauty that machine is, green also happens to be my favourite colour. Thanks for the video, nice place to ride. Ric, ontario canada, a fellow rider.
i really like the bars and grips and the windshield. Nice look! I would be really tempted by these (made in my state) if that 450 was a twin cyl. For both sound and power at $14k I just can't do a single. But sure are pretty.
They are actually semi spherical, like "hemi heads". If you want to learn more about it, Janus put out a video doing a deep dive into all the stats/functions of the 450 engine. It gets a little wild, yes its Chinese manufactured BUT a Italian company (that the base engine is sold to) changes things out, then janus goes through it changing it even more to there specs. Yep there is a lot to it. Best of luck on your "information" deep dive. -Cheers
Why is that rack not an option from Janus? Much better solution than the one being offered now (for those that want just the rack and not passenger accommodations).
Beautiful mountain sides and I love the back road mountains little sketchy on no guard railHow did you find the rigid rack for the rear of the bike I would like to get the same rack I am searching around and around not finding that much in after market things that can mount to the bike have a safe bike ride e jnoy washington my bucket list
Hi, owner of 450 #42. I found a Enfield rack on EBay for cheap, cut off the legs and welded new ones to fit and powder coated. Looks great. I posted pictures in the forum.
Beautiful bike and scenery. I'm a kindred spirit with 50+ years of riding as well as riding a modern classic, a 2006 Springer Softail. Is the 450 OHC or OHV with pushrods?
It's great. A bit of a Frankenstein creation. Metal seat pan is Amish, the foam is by Sargent, and the leather skin is by the company in Saint Louis that makes luggage for HD.
Good eye. The Road Classics are made for last century BMWs that have an 18" rear and a 19" front. Janus bikes are 18" front and rear. Switching around the direction on a rear tire for a front is common practice in my circle.
Some motorcycle maker should do the same thing but it a serious way, using real, non-Chinese components. For now, the BMW and Kawasaki retros are probably your best bet.
Janus buys these motors and the EFI from SWM in Milan Italy. I know that the foundry that casts the engine is the same foundry that has been casting these parts also casts for Honda and HD, and yes, the foundry is in China.
Delightful video and really nicely done bike. The front end is perfect. Well done, Sir!
Love this video. Came across it in a TH-cam ad. Love it.
I love what Dave did to the bike to make it his, and--wow!--what a beautiful ride!
Your narration is very smooth and pleasant to hear. This new generation does not know how to talk like that anymore.
Can't wait for mine # 1003 janus 250cc!
Dave - very nice! You represent our state well. Thank you for putting the effort into this - I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Nice ride, the company should have you on the payroll. Awesome in what you did to personalize it. Thank you
The Shinko 777 is also a nice tire.
The problem is with the width of these tires - narrow. A 110/90-18 or 4"x18" tire is not in the Shinko options.

Did the same with the lower bars.. very nice.
Thank you, Dave, for your excellent video. I love your Janus motorcycle. The scenery is amazingly beautiful. You are truly blessed.
Very nice ! That fuel cap is epic! Nice mods!

trimakasih telah berbagi cerita, ternyata janus Halcyon 450 itu keren dan bertambah umur itu sama kerennya.
Thank you sir. I'm now doubly cool.

Reach out to Janus, and they can get you my contact info. Cheers
A lot of money for her. I've had many full customs of about every style and that about the same price as most my customs. 100% how you like it.
All of your mods are in great taste & well done. BEAUTIFUL machine! 👍😎👍 Great video & gorgeous scenery.
Awesome Mods. Love the gas cap
Positive & relaxed video , thanks!
Love it

Great looking bike🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚
I dunno....sounds like the engine is straining a wee bit...I like what you did to your ride though...it matches the classiness of the bike...👍👍👍
Nice bike and mods, like the way the windscreen mounts. looks cleaner and secure, would like to know some choices for 450 windscreen.
Looks like a Dart Flyscreen to me.
Very nice job on the bike, loved ride video.passed thru this area on a ride in 70s, nice to see itsvstill beautiful
That's a gorgeous looking bike! The one thing it needs is a "valve cover." The top of the engine's head is too domed and needs to be more square.

Try MotoCult Parts.

Rack by MotoCult parts
That gas cap is perfection
Great video. If you could please send a link or a description of the handlebars. Thank you
Lovely bike, great scenery
Where is the windscreen from?
I love how these look but its hard to try to justify the price 😭😭
That was a very beautiful ride I enjoyed the video
Thank You,Sir.👍👍👍👍👍
Beautiful bike and scenery. I'm a kindred spirit with 50+ years of riding as well as riding a modern classic, a 2006 Springer Softail.
Is the 450 OHC or OHV with pushrods?
It's a modified XR400 Honda enduro motor.
Nicely Done, Dave! You gonna make it out to the Owner’s Rally? -Brent [Phoenix #034]
Great bike !!! How comfortable is the seat ?
It's great. A bit of a Frankenstein creation. Metal seat pan is Amish, the foam is by Sargent, and the leather skin is by the company in Saint Louis that makes luggage for HD.
Starting at 3:54, I see a lot of orange peel in the paint. Why?
No paint on the bike except name and stripes. Everything else is powder coat.
Nice bike. Maybe I will find one used. Have you had any problems with that Chinese/ Honda engine clone?
15000 miles and the motor is fine. I did have a problem with the German sourced gauges - Janus replaced them instantly.
I want one of these so bad .
I love the handlebars. What are they called?
They are 7/8" diam. dirtbike bars from Amazon.
I almost had The Last of Us Pt.2 vibe when listening to the music...
Sorry, but front tire, in the right direction?
Good eye. The Road Classics are made for last century BMWs that have an 18" rear and a 19" front. Janus bikes are 18" front and rear. Switching around the direction on a rear tire for a front is common practice in my circle.
Kewl ,,nice ride
Thanks!
Highly Cool
THAT A BIKE!
What seat is that, please?
Stock seat from Janus - metal seat pan is Amish, foam is from Sargent, leather seat skin is Harley Davidson
@@DaveBowen-py3yg Thank you.
I'd be wedging a 70's moto morini 500 motor in there.
😊😊😊

Sometimes just riding without the distracted talking would be a hell of a lot safer !
Nice " ride " Me, ride with a leather " pilot " head cover, goggles, gloves, leather coat, and a scarf to " wave " in the wind..
I don’t get it. It is still just a 450cc bike, right? I would be terrified to get on the road on anything under about 80 cubic inches…
So, you need a 1300cc motor to feel safe? This is obviously not the bike for you.
no i fajnie =) elo pozdro
If this bike had a bit more hp it would be superior.
Indian? From india? Working leather??? Not bovine, obviously !
Very much bovine. Huge country and everyone is not necessarily Hindu.
Hi Dave. Beautiful machine! Do you have other Trip Machine products for your Halcyon 450?

China engine?
Janus buys these motors and the EFI from SWM in Milan Italy. I know that the foundry that casts the engine is the same foundry that has been casting these parts also casts for Honda and HD, and yes, the foundry is in China.
Twenty grand for a bike with a Chinese motor.
If you remove all foreign components from a H-D it will have no electrical system among other things.
I paid 13k and they buy the motor from SWM in Milan , Italy.
