  • Visiting a local shrine in Tokyo. Kusanagi Shrine 草薙神社 (江戸川区)
    In the episode, I also visit a local Japanese bakery and buy a YAKISOBA PAN (yakisoba inside a bread roll!) and a hot royal milk tea at a coca-cola vending machines now.
    It’s a cold March evening with possible snow before the Sakura blossoms. Hang on cherry blossoms!
    Where is this shrine?

    Thanks very much for another fascinating insight into local Japanese culture and every day life!
    What strikes me as interesting is that they can leave plants and flowering bushes out on doorsteps and their society is so respectful that they will not steal them etc. There are many neighbourhoods in Australia now days where you couldn't do that along a public street.

      Matt NA crazy!! I’ve been here so long that I don’t think that anyone would take it. I guess everywhere is different. No one takes it because they’d have to carry it! Lol

    This is just the reason why I am fond of your videos and streams John!
    Off the beaten path. Real life and not the tourist attractions every body else bombard us with in advertisements.
    You make Japan and the Japanese so much more attractive.

I'll be back in Japan around the same time this year (thank Jetstar's $320 return airfares) and maybe we'll get to crash another Christmas live stream.

    Frankly, I find a lot of cultural similarity between India and Japan. You can find a lot of small shrines/temples in South India (especially Chennai, which is cluttered with small houses), and few more in North India. The similarity itself beckons my interest to visit Japan. Thanks a lot John, for your efforts.

    John, could you share in what sort of prayer you might pray at this shrine? If I visited such a shrine like this in Japan would it be acceptable for one to pray Christian prayers there?

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff Stumpf I think prayers are universal no matter your religion :) imho it’s what you believe and it’s your prayer 🙏 so it’s okay. I pray for my friends, people in need, safe take offs and landings on the plane, safe births and happy marriages. That transcends religion.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manny Godinez I know :) say stuff live but I didn’t want to get into the deep ness of what I was saying but as for the USA, the history is short. The land - has a history that goes back a long time! Sorry for the misunderstanding. He reality is that when I was a kid, we barely studied that and that is a real shame. I studied US history too often and not much else. I didn’t have a world culture class until my last year of HS in 1992! Thanks for the comment and keeping it real :) -J

    A lot of the old historical churches in my country were neglected and torn down. Often its up to government to preserve it and if those government members aren't church goers or have a different belief they don't care to do anything. There's one government group who aren't christians and they're quick to destroy as many churches and historical buildings as possible and quick to construct as many temples of their belief as possible.In multicultural societies historical buildings don't last very long.
