Simple solution is the best possible solution 👍🏻. I’ve still got those plastic bottles - mine are open at the top and easy to “top off”. I’m in central NC and bit getting real brutal temps. A few mornings at 28-30 degrees is easy enough to deal with. I’ve got 5 cages and that’s a wee bit easier than your set-up. I’m a fan of those hay feeders! Very clever!

I started out with bottles, but a few of our typical winter mornings was quick to show me I needed a better way. LOL The top-loading type do make things faster. Otherwise bottles are surprisingly time consuming!

I got rid of the bottles as well. They're a pain went with metal bowls they wouldn't chew on them and take bucket of hot water with me and thaw them out Twice a day if it's very cold.

I've considered the metal, too. I do like how the plastic has just a little bit of flex (and they're quite a bit cheaper). But it would solve the chewing issue.
