I don't know if you come back to look at comments, but your five minutes describing the RX7 experience is "perfect." I've owned an 83, an 85 and currently an 1982 GS and, of course, you have to have driven and owned an RX7 to appreciate your comments. The car is simply perfect. For an enthusiast, it doesn't get any better. Well said!
Damn Justin! Not exactly sure what you’ve been through but good job on being tough and I loved the video and the whole topic and how you did it! Reminds me how it feels to ride a motorcycle.
Max! Thank you! And yes, you smell JUST like when you ride a motorcycle. Every time I get home my wife: “You smell like gas”. It’s like cologne for the adventurous. (At least that was the case on my ‘84 CB400T too)
my mom just told me that she owned this car... so I immediately came to this video to see it in action. And I didnt leave disappointed, you do amazing work on your videos... from a personal standpoint. You cut through the bullshit and explain cerebrally how driving feels.
It's too bad they're bad on gas and unreliable if you don't take real good care of them. Because they are really special. I might try and get an RX-8 after this one dies. It's practical with 4 doors and 4 seats - basically the perfect family car ;).
I'm still in the process of getting my wife to agree to me getting a 1971 Dodge dart, my first car. Sure I can do oil changes and a few other things on my new vehicle, but working on the old girls is definitely therapy.
The classics are definitely easier to work on - very little computers and simple. And usually some space under the engine, too! Wishing you ALL the best in convincing her!!
Just came across this video. I had the same love story. I bought my 82rx7 in 86. I was depressed-my dad dying-divorcing abusive guy -working single mom and turning 30. Ugh! This car saved me. Joy. I still have and drive. I’m 65 now and Sam my car is 40. But we still haul ***.
That's definitely another car that had a HUGE impact on a lot of people our age. *SIGH* I miss all those classics. I had an 87 Celica GT-S, too. One friend had an '89 Prelude and another friend had an '89 Silvia from Japan. So good. Hope you find a similar car one day that reminds you!
damn... Rx-7s to the rescue. Same here, going through hard losses and failures, no hope of looking forward to anything... then this little lady ( 1985 FB RX-7) shows up in my life. Dirty, broken, no engine or trani... And as I build her up, she builds me up. Now I have hope. Now I smile as I walk up the dark driveway after an exhausting day. Everything will be ok.
Man! seen a LOT of car tv shows, and this was quality! Personal, informative and entertaining! Think you found your personal niche buddy ;D I hope I will see more of these Justin!
Why thank you! I appreciate that comment because Top Gear / The Grand Tour is what I love. Obviously not going to get to that quality by myself but if you can watch those and still enjoy this, that's a huge win!
Congrats!!! I bought a Jetta so I didn’t have to winter drive mine at -40 so I’m just getting ready to pull Samantha out do the garage and fire her up for the year.
Good video, man. My 7 is named Nadia😂. You described the ownership spot on. It is such a primal experience to drive. The characteristic smell, the feel....polar opposite of the refined and sterile modern transportation appliances
nice vid. I have the '84 version of your car, same color, brings me endless smiles. BTW, these cars are really easy to make fast, and the apex seal thing isn't really a problem if you premix!
Nice! I do always premix just to be safe. I love that I can hammer on this and it never gets me in trouble. I’ve done an S5 turbo swap into a 2nd-gen before. Was a little quicker but not as reliable as this one has been. And these ones still look GREAT. 2nd gens weren’t as timeless.
Love the optics of this video. I've been thinkin about getting a g7 I've been using the g9 and want a b cam. Your newest video popped up just in time! Ordered today ! Gonna have to wait though cuz its backordered lol
FB RX7 is my dream car. Fell in love with the rotary the second my neighbor gave me a ride in his street port with full racing beat exhaust. It angers me, because I could have afford one SEVERAL times if was willing to put the work into essentially restoring one. There were two things that always held me back from actually getting one: 1) they are consistently a good 40-60 miles away and had no way to transport it or 2) I simply had no where to put it. All I keep saying to myself is "one day". I know my time to own is coming soon, just waiting for that moment to arrive!
My Dad had the same car with louvers on the back that was passed through three different family members, good memories learning to drive stick. My Grandpa even bought a replacement factory motor in the 90's. Unfortunately the rust became too much and he gave it to an old friend that collects RX7's.
@@JustinReves Thank you! However this one is in worse condition. It has around 190K KMs and doesn't run. The front fender, sunroof , and under the windows is lightly rusted. But it's all original and all complete for $1200 Canadian Dollars! (edit: kilometers)
Justin I’ve seen quite a few of your vids over the years starting with the Nikon vid (owned a Nikon at the time). This might be the best yet. It’s clear that you’ve learned how to master your craft to tell the story you want to tell. Shot on a G7 but honestly, might as well been on Netflix. Who cares about the gear! Story is king and this nailed it while being so tastefully shot. Not trying to look like anyone but yourself and just telling a story. I’ve subbed.
Justin, great content! Cars are fun! Great RX-7. I want an older Mazda Miata... the budget can't pay for it yet. Keep zoom zooming around! JoseTheVegan
broooo, I had 3 of these (one was donor car) and one 2nd gen! Then one day I had the opportunity to buy a pristine 3rd gen for $5200 in 2002 and passed it up. (Do yourself a favor and don't look at the prices on ebay rn.) Such a fun car to drive!
I love this video! My '82 is a joy to own and drive. Can't wait to see more videos on your car! If you're interested, RCR reviewed my rx7 when they came up to Toronto last year (th-cam.com/video/tchkNRBWDcM/w-d-xo.html)
Joel, so cool! I'm just starting the video with RCR but always awesome to meet other fellow Canadian FB owners. Purely curious: how'd you stumble across this video?
the reason your rear feels like its loosing grip is because you have the worst dogshit tires on earth on the car, there are NO good tires from the stock rim's on these car's . Upgrade to 15 inch rims and put godo tires on the car, yo uare selling yoru car short, they have more grip than most modern sports car's and were true legends on the track.

I do still see the comments - really appreciate it! Nothing quite like them. Very cool you have one too.

My husband have the same type of car and I love driving it, it is soooo cool.
This was awesome. You seem happy making this one, man. Love it. Thanks, Justin.
I did enjoy making this! Have been feeling better the last few weeks. Hope you’re well!
Dude I loved the story, the shots, all the angles, very thought out and nicely edited. Fantastic job!
Thanks, Paul! And yes... it was all shot on a G7!
Justin Reves 😉 I knew it! Lol looks great!
I've had several rx-7's. Absolutely loved them all!!
Always have loved rotary engines, love their quirks and smoothness!

Amazing story. I enjoyed the way you told it 🙌.

Mines still running strong too. Thanks for sharing your story!
My brother had this exact car when I was a teenager and it brings back such fond memories. Good video my friend
Thank you!
The roller coaster of life has brought you to the best video and story you’ve ever created. Awesome work, great to see you publishing.
Thanks Matt! Hope you’re killing it still.

I got soooo lucky, bought mine from the original owner for $1300 in really great shape. The cars are worth a fortune now
Picking an 85 limited today , this rings so true great video

I've had two with blown engines. Nice that I hopefully won't have to deal with that on this one...

I had one back in the day. I really miss it so much. Mine was a silver 1983. I'd love to find one.
I might be picking up a black FB of my own pretty soon. It's also a 1983 model like yours! In Canada too!
