I think it is under appreciated that ALL Sportsters from 1957 to 1971 came from the factory with tall and/or thick seats. This was challenging for short riders who had to stand on their tippy toes to reach the ground but comfy for tall ones. 1972 brought the first skinny seat so now short riders could touch the ground BUT taller riders are wadded up in a ball. Hence the need for forward controls.
In your quest for chrome paint, I have had fair luck with Krylon Premium Chrome paint but I found some Chrome/Aluminum paint that I liked better but can't find a can of it in the shop so I don't remember the brand, probably is also Krylon.
