My favorite reading order for the main series is The Mortal Instruments part 1: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, then The Infernal Devices/ TID: Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, Clockwork Princess , then the rest of TMI aka Part 2: City of Lost Souls, City of Fallen Angels, City of Heavenly Fire, Then The Dark Artifices/ TDA (takes place after TMI), and then finally The Last Hours/ TLH: Chain of Gold, Chain of Iron, Chain of Thorns which takes place after (The Infernal Devices). if you want to read ALL shadowhunters books, I love the SimonTeen way: TMI Part 1, The Red Scrolls of Magic, TID, TMI Part 2, The Bane Chronicles, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, The Lost Book of White, TDA, TLH, The Shadowhunter's Codex. Personally I've found all of the side books that she didn't write alone to not be worth it, but it does many for a very fluid storyline!
I read the shadowhunters books years ago, but I'm going with a chronological timeline order, so by the time of the story. So its Infernal Devices trilogy, Last Hours trilogy, Mortal Instruments, Tales from the Academy, Bane Chronicles, Dark Artifices trilogy, Ghosts of the shadow market, Eldest Curses, The Wicked Powers xxx
I personally have read shadowhunters in (mostly) the order of publication, but by series!! so I read The Mortal Instruments first, then The Infernal Devices, then The Dark Artifices, and then The Last Hours I’ve found that it’s easy to follow since I have a foundation of characters and plot from each series as I go. I still have some of her other books to go, but I’ve found that sprinkling the extra ones in the mix hasn’t messed me up and has been easy since she does a good job at giving a great base. I personally just recommend reading TMI first since I think that gives the easiest and most thorough introduction to the world and its characteristics!
i'm so gladd i'm not the only one who hasn't read all of cassandra clare's books!! might take part in reading them this year too. can't wait to hear all your thoughts 💗
There are some shadow hunter books that are missing. Like "the red scroll" and "the lost book of white". "Shadow hunter codex" and "tales from the academy" too
I read the shadowhunter books in release order which I will alwayyysssss recommend!! - city of bones - city of ashes - city of glass -clockwork angel -city of fallen angels -clockwork prince -city of lost souls -clockwork princess -city of heavenly fire - lady midnight - lord of shadows - queen of air and darkness - nothing but shadows (short story) - ghosts of the shadow market (imo the only 'important' short story collection) - chain of gold - chain of iron - chain of thorns
i personally loved a curse for true love, i understand why some people didn’t like it but i think it tied up perfectly and balances out the last half of the ballad of never after, so excited to see what you think 🤍
Super late on this but for less confusion sake I recommend reading the shadowhunter series in chronological order! So The Infernal Devices (Historical), The Last Hours (Historical), The Mortal Instruments (2000’s), The Dark Artifices (2010’s)
If you’re mostly excited for dragons in the Fourth Wing (The Empyrean) series you’ll be sooo happy with Iron Flame there’s a lot of dragon developments!!
Okay you uploading made my night 🥰 I do recommend reading the shadow hunter series in the publication order, I think that’s the way even Cassandra Clare recommendeds 😊
The Shadowhunter Universe is my favorite! I started reading the series when City of Glass was released. So, I'd say just read them in publication order. That's how I did it. You could probably hold off on reading The Eldest Curses trilogy because it's not all out yet. The 3rd book doesn't even have a release date.
I read all of the shadowhunter books last year, most people will tell you to read them by publication date, but I read them in chronological order (The Infernal Device series first) and I’m so glad I did, I don’t think there’s a wrong way to do it though. You can always go with what the author recommends.
I just read IF TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT and omg I adored it. It has autism + anxiety rep and is just a beautiful story/beautiful characters. Very slice of life but in a romance way. I’m excited to read all of the authors other books!
You are so beautiful! I just found your channel and i'm definitely continuing! Happy reading. I have not read any of those books but there are some that i'm going to try after this video.
I, too am putting myself on a book buying ban this year until a least June (which is my birthday month and I usually treat myself then!). I bought 12 books in the month of January to prepare and I hope to read them all before June so that I don't have to add too many books to my tbr this year.
chloe liese is one of my fav authors! always only you by her is one of my all time favourites, i haven’t read two wrongs make a right but i hope you like her writing 🫶
You are going to love the mortal instruments series and I will say the reading order for the shadowhunter series is to read them in publication order that’s also the recommended reading order Cassandra Clare recommends too😁😁
You're so lucky your books arrive in good condition! I gave up on ordering books online because no matter where I ordered from, the books always came damaged (crushed spines, bent pages, etc). It sucks because I would LOVE to have them delivered to my house vs. needing to go out to the bookstore all the time. 😭
My preferred reading order of the shadow hunter universe is by the chronological timeline: So first is the infernal devices trilogy. Next the last hours trilogy. Then the first three books of the mortal instruments which are city of bones, city of ashes and city of glass Then the red scrolls of magic The last three books in the mortal instruments- city of fallen angels, city of lost souls and city of heavenly fire Then optionally the extra books tales from the shadow hunter academy, bane chronicles and lost book of the white. And at the end the dark artifices trilogy. And then there’s the extra book ghosts from the shadow market.
Shadow Hunters era!!!! I was planning on only reading The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, and The Last Hours (in that order too) as they interested me the most hehe. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them 👀
I havent been able to get into many fantasy books probably because this 3 month reading slump is definitely not going away but thanks for a great video jaime love seeing you
Not Here To Make Friends…that book sounds just like a reality tv show that I was on and one of my fellow cast mates actually fell for one of our producers and they dated after the show for a while 🥰🥰🥰
New subbie here 🎉😊 Thanks for some new books to add to my wishlist! How is your book buying ban going this year ? I’m a book collector so I would find it so hard to accomplish this even for 1 month lol 😅
Usually the best way to read Mortal Instruments is in publication order… -City of Bones -City of Ashes -City of Glass Then read The Eldest Curses book 1, which is short stories And then the Infernal Devices. After that you read the latter half of TMI -City of Fallen Angels -City of Lost Souls -City of Heavenly Fire Then the short story collections The Bane Chronicles and Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy Then Eldest Curses book 2! Then Dark Artifices, followed by Ghosts of the Shadow Market ❤ and then Lost Hours. I know its a lot 😂😂 sorry
There is more than one way to read Cassandra Clare 😊 I think you should research and see what works better for you. But I think the first one is always City of Bones 💕
love a good panic buying moment before a book buying ban 😂😂😂 i’m with you on the shadowhunter books! i finished the first 3 mortal instrument books last year and will be reading infernal devices next 🖤
Cassandra Clare says to read the first three Mortal instruments books and then read The infernal devices trilogy. Then you read the last three Mortal instruments books and the Dark artifices trilogy before reading the Last hours trilogy (which is the sequel trilogy to The infernal devices). I'd say to read The bane chronicles and the Red scrolls of magic series after you finish The mortal instruments series.
Emmmabooks has a great reading order video. It’s from a couple of years ago, so I think maybe The Last Hours aren’t in it. Or maybe just the first one. But it’s a great resource. I loved Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone. 5/5⭐️ Everyone On this Train is a Suspect is on Hold on Libby. But def read EIMFHKS first. I was not going to read Divine Rivals but it’s on my tbr now. lol
I think the best order for Shadowhunters is in publication order. I know the top comment on this video recommends reading the first part of TMI, then all of TID, and then the rest of TMI, but I think it's best to do pub order, which means you'll be swapping book series for a bit instead of reading through. If you dislike reading two series concurrently, then feel free to ignore! but they were published that way, and you will spoil some things or miss easter eggs (obvs ymmv on whether you care). I know there are also votes for reading in chronological order (especially because TID is the general fave (and personally my favorite) and it takes place first) but I really don't recommend that, especially if you've already got TMI and are committed to reading it anyway. BUT ALL THAT SAID, here's the order I HIGHHHHHHLY recommend, and is in fact how I read the books in a big blur in one month a few years ago: TMI1: City of Bones TMI 2: City of Glass TMI 3: City of Ashes TID 1: Clockwork Angel TMI 4: City of Fallen Angels TID 2: Clockwork Prince TMI 5: City of Lost Souls TID 3: Clockwork Princess TMI 6: City of Heavenly Fire . You can read the Bane Chronicles here, but honestly it's not necessary Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy: highly recommend not skipping this! . TDA 1: Lady Midnight TDA 2: Lord of Shadows the first 8 stories from Ghosts of the Shadow Market (don't read the last two yet!) TDA 3: Queen of Air and Darkness . the last 2 stories in Ghosts of the Shadow Market (or you can read the whole book together now if you like/are less particular than I am lol) The Red Scrolls of Magic is set during the TMI timeline and can be read whenever that series is completed. The Lost Book of the White should be read after TDA is completed, since it's set after the events of that series . TLH 1: Chain of Gold TLH 2: Chain of Iron TLH 3: Chain of Thorns I'm so sorry, I know that was a lot and very particular but I honestly think that's the best way to enjoy the series, especially since you own all the books! Good luck and godspeed lol
Cassandra Clare has an order to read recommendation, I just don't know where it is posted because I have just recently heard of her reading list. I haven't looked for it online though just yet.
My favorite reading order for the main series is The Mortal Instruments

omg this is the perfect reading order! I read them this way too :)
I agree! I made a friend read it like that recently
Absolutely love your book taste! Its so diverse! ❤ and youre so open and intellectual ❤ yet fiction & romance lover. Perfect combo😂
I read the shadowhunters books years ago, but I'm going with a chronological timeline order, so by the time of the story.
