The organizers are not complicit. The major culprit here is the Govt. In terms of lack of providing welfare, security and healthcare emergency services. Liborous may not be correct, as the organisers still did not assume the responsibility of looking after the families. The parents would still be deemed to have the responsibility to look after their own wards. The programme was slated for 10am, and this was communicated to the public, and then the crushing/stampede happened before 8am. It is sad, but the Govt should be held specifically responsible this unfortunate event.
Please reframe this headline. There is no moment of joy in destitution and poverty, where citizens resort to momentary hope and exhaustion from govt orchestrated hunger.
If the government of the day had looked into food production and there is sustainability of both human and natural resources, this wouldn't not happen. People are suffering and dying.
Most of the talks here are rubbish. Did I hear insurance? In this country? Is it now that insurance is compulsory? We are just looking for who to blame, as always. The organisers planned the event for 10:00 am and invited the police, who are to arrive 8:00 am (2 hours before the event). The stampede happened between 6:00 am to 7:00 am. Staggered entry and exit, etc are good, but no one is even talking about the fact that the event is still 4 hours away. We are just looking at the surface cause and try to convert the root cause. That is why this will still happen again (it is not a curse). Rufai said the same thing and just a couple of days latter, it happened in Abuja and Anambra. The weapon (poverty) is becoming more potent daya by day
Ruth, food stamp is given by the government. However, another way to organise it is not to allow everybody coming in at the same time but give numbers to people in the queue. Anyone out of the line cannot get number and people go when their numbers are called. If there are so many people inside you allow them out before sending more people in.
Pls I don't understand this journalist we have In dat country called Nigeria.Treat the problem not d symptom. We are so funny.Deal with poverty unemployment and d economic situation in dat country pls.
Are these analysts aware that the stampede in Ibadan occured about 3hrs before the event was supposed to start?. This info might help them redirect their submissions
You guys talk for the sake of talking. No point. If poor people are identified, why can't research be conducted to know why they are in that state? Lack of jobs - offer some facilities to start SMEs, farming, etc which will take them out of that situation before next year.
Adequate preparation should be over 90%, handing over gifts shouldn't be more than 10% of the task. There are better ways to deliver aids. And a big city like Ibadan should have proper risk assessment done, and review over and over.

Lack of Common sense from both the givers and the recipients.
Both giver and receivers are capable
The government needs to have safety measures and support for safe venues.
