Most likely, no. We say, "Minor gunsmithing may be required" because we can't say it won't be required in a few cases here and there. But, most cases, no fitting is required.
I have a Springfield 1911 Mil Spec so your threaded barrel should be fit just fine no gunsmithing required? I want to run it suppressed and I'm looking for a threaded barrel i thought it was just a barrel swap but for 1911 you may have to fit it so if this is just a drop in barrel then that is what i need
Chances are, one of our drop-in threaded barrels would install with no gunsmithing required. However, there is always a chance that some very minimal gunsmithing may be required, simply because tolerances vary from pistol to pistol.
I have a NH AAC with threaded barrel, wanted to switch to a non threaded, will this drop in barrel work? And does it have to use the dropin slidestop as well,m
One of our drop-in barrels would work fine. That said, since your AAC has a slide and barrel that are hand fit, minor gunsmithing might be required with the drop-in barrel. If you don't plan on using the threaded anymore, you could always send you pistol in and we can cut your barrel down flush with the slide, and crown the barrel. That way, the hand fit between your barrel and slide is still in tact. Also, the use of a drop-in slide stop is not required. If you have any questions at all, contact our custom shop at customshop@nighthawkcustom.com and Bob can get you squared away.
I have a rare Kimber custom II gold match high-cap polymer in 45 ACP. I like to have the availability of dropping in a 9 mm barrel and magazine conversion kit. This firearm shoots as well or out shoot any STI or Staccato. I just like to be able to shoot 9 mm out of it as well. Is this possible?
Hey Gabe! There shouldn't be a need to remove any material to fit the barrel. Every manufacturer has different tolerances, and we can't speak to Springfield's tolerances, but there shouldn't be a need to remove material.
They will. We've gone ahead and done a lot of smithing on the Drop-In barrels to remove material. Our standard match grade barrels are still oversized and require gunsmithing to install.
Say I buy the slide for a Springfield 1911 ronin 9mm 5in when I buy the slide on your website is everything I need to install the slide in the pack or do I need to buy things separately to make the new slide fit?
There is not. There are a lot of factors that play into the accuracy of a pistol. We do believe our barrel and bushing fit will improve accuracy, but we can't guarantee to what extent. Great question, though.
I finally tracked down your 5” threaded drop in hoping to upgrade my nighthawk grp. It’s doesn’t fit. It can’t be cocked with the threaded barrel installed :(. Any advice?
Do I have to use the NH slide stop with your threaded barrel? Or can I use the Colt factory slide stop? I have a series 70 Colt I’d like to use as a suppressor host and your threaded barrel would perfect. Thanks. *** I just order the barrel ***
Our drop-in slide stop is not necessary with our drop-in barrels. We simply included it in the installation video because the slide stop must be removed anyway to install a drop-in barrel. Your factory slide stop will work perfectly fine.
Nighthawk Custom Thank you for the reply. I look forward to receiving the barrel. It’s nice that it comes with the thread protector, bushing, link & pin. I run the Octane 45 suppressor. What recoil spring weight do you recommend shooting 230gr ball? Thanks again.
We would say a 15 lb spring would work well. You might be able to use a 17 lb spring, but we couldn't say for sure. Charge in the rounds being shot would have some influence here. 15 lb should do you well.
The quality of parts is the same. The Drop-In Parts have just had some work done on them to help with fitment, but there may still be some gunsmithing required.
I have been looking for an extended mag release for my Springfield 1911? Its an RO full sized target model and i cant seem to drop the mag, even with my big hands without changing the position of my grip to do so?I have the same issue with my Glock19??? I think its more about the shape of the release then the size of the gun?? I'm thinking if there was one with a bit of a paddle on it so it extends back further to the grip would work?Im not a gunsmith or armorer so idk do u guys have any suggestions?
Hey Michael. We do offer a drop-in mag catch that is 1/16" longer than mil spec, which makes it easier to reach. However, we don't offer anything with a paddle like you are referring to. But, we may look into doing that.
I think you should have included the fitting that needs to be done. I have ordered 2 of these and they are far from "drop in" your video is misleading. It would make the average person think that all that needs to be done is what is shown here...Far from it
Next upgrade for the tisas service special
I just bought a used springfield milspec that needs a new barrel so I'm in!
There you go!
NIce gonna buy one. BTW looks like Kibler flintlock stock in the background...just saying
Allen Wyatt, who you see in this video, hand builds flintlocks. They're quite impressive.
I am interested in a threaded barrel for my colt 1911 5". No fitting of the bushing is required?
Most likely, no. We say, "Minor gunsmithing may be required" because we can't say it won't be required in a few cases here and there. But, most cases, no fitting is required.
Did you ever get this sorted out?

Anyone try one of these on a Rock Island FS? I'd like to get one for my GI.

Unfortunately, no. The breach face diameter is too wide to make the conversion from .45 ACP to 9mm.
Do the drop-in threaded barrels come with a "black nitrate finish"? ??
They all come with a stainless finish.
I have the same exact Springfield 1911. Since you’ve installed the barrel was there any need to remove material for fitting?
Hey Gabe! There shouldn't be a need to remove any material to fit the barrel. Every manufacturer has different tolerances, and we can't speak to Springfield's tolerances, but there shouldn't be a need to remove material.
@@NighthawkCustomFirearms thanks for the helpful feedback!
I have a Springfield garrison 1911 45, how long is that barrel from the front of the chamber to the end of the barrel?
If it's a 5" model, the barrel will be 5" from front to back.
Will the drop in threaded barrel work on a kimber custom 2 9mm? Also, will the drop in trigger job work?
Both the threaded barrel and the Drop-In Trigger System should would perfectly fine in your Kimber.
I know this is a very old post, but has anyone tried this in a Tisas B9R DS?
Will your match grade barrels require more fitting than this?
They will. We've gone ahead and done a lot of smithing on the Drop-In barrels to remove material. Our standard match grade barrels are still oversized and require gunsmithing to install.
I have 1911 tactical 9mm will this barrel work on my gun
Yep. Should work just fine.
Say I buy the slide for a Springfield 1911 ronin 9mm 5in when I buy the slide on your website is everything I need to install the slide in the pack or do I need to buy things separately to make the new slide fit?
Properly fitting a slide takes tools and gunsmithing skills. There are no drop-in slides.
is there an accuracy guaranty for drop in barrel and slide stop set?
There is not. There are a lot of factors that play into the accuracy of a pistol. We do believe our barrel and bushing fit will improve accuracy, but we can't guarantee to what extent. Great question, though.

Nighthawk Custom Thank you kindly.
Can you drop a 9mm barrel into a 45 ACP 1911?
You cannot put a 9mm barrel into a .45 ACP 1911. The frames are designed differently and the barrels are not interchangeable.
How does this compare to sending your pistol off to Nighthawk to have a barrel fitted? Is it the same quality m?
The quality of parts is the same. The Drop-In Parts have just had some work done on them to help with fitment, but there may still be some gunsmithing required.
