    Have a couple mates that do gearbox repairs in WA. They said they make there living of Toyota's. In 24 years they have only done one patrol. I have exactly the same patrol 1990 st. Same colour same steering wheel lol. No mods really, Just big wheels. I'm pretty sure yours has 10 inch wide same as mine not 8" ..mine only one owner before me. I have thought about selling but to buy what! A very expensive vehicle that's not as good. A toyota that costs a fortune and a fortune to repair. My injectors cost $350. 79 injectors you looking at 10k. Try taking the starter motor out of a 79! Try it on a gq and see what's better to work on. Not to mention the price of other newer vehicle parts. I would rather spend money on adventures and memories. I think I'll keep my ol coil sprung patrol, it's better on my bad back. Love your videos love the run down Adam, keep em coming I really enjoy them.

      Spot on there mate, we thought of getting a 79 dual cab, even test drove one, but for the cost to buy and set-up, could have 18 months off work! And the old patrol is bush proof 🤠👍

    Was great to meet you yesterday. Love how tidy and simple everything is, and it’s a realistic build that has really been used and seen so much of Australia. Cheers for the cold can of Coke to!

    Adam I still think that you have maybe the best 4x4 ever made, me , my wife bought me a 2013 bt50 and it’s an amazing step up from from my 1996 Jeep. So just keep spending money on your unit.

      Thanks John, really appreciate the kind words. The best 4wd there is the one in your driveway. Our neighbour has the same model bt50 and it's been trouble free with 1/2 million kms on it! So they ain't to bad either 🤠👍

      I just started with pulling something out of the Patrol and working out how it works and putting in new bits. Luckily for me the patrol is very basic and easy to learn on 🤠👍

    glad to see one can get by without the 'fancy' additions which goes into the 1000's. Very practical and simple. I drive a '94 y60 rx edition and like yourselves deliberately kept it minimalistic and practical. I've engineered up some brackets that uses the existing factory mounting points for the bonnet and mounted them along with a pair of struts. Makes it a lots easier when looking under bonnet. Your setup has given me some ideas on weight reduction too. Thanks for sharing.....great video.

      @GoingOverland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cheers mate, I do like the simplicity of the old gq, the bonnet struts sounds pretty cool 🤠

    Always good to see what others have done with their rigs. I have built my own drawer systems and given many of the pre-built systems are 60kg you really do save a lot of weight doing it yourself. I think my system total would be about 25-30kg, maybe a little more now I have actual locking slides but still better than pre-built ones. Good to see the old girl still going good, being maintained and doing what she is built for.

      @GoingOverland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great to hear, love a custom made solution. I don't think people realise how heavy all these accessories weigh. But 30kg is fantastic. Great job 🤠👍

    Good dig on the 79 😮 mate you should be proud, that’s a very awesome GQ. So we’ll set up, everything you need and nothing you dont. Love to catch up with guys for a weekend of camping and 4wding. I’ve got a GU TD42

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a great old truck that just keeps going, the td42 has got to be one of the most reliable engines in a 4wd. Definitely need another catch up weekend 🤠👍

      Cheers mate, it's been a amazing vehicle, it's more like a family member. Hopefully after all these changes we can spend more time travelling in it than working on it 😅

    I'm with you bro. I love my y61 which I have made into a 2 seater camper. . I will be travelling Australia in it and so far on the short camping trips I've done it's been great .. I've loaded it with heaps of luxuries like hot water service, lithium batteries, water tank with pump to provide water to the slide out kitchen. Drawer system built from ultra lightweight plywood. Lots of OCAM gear ( I think they are great value) eg. Hard shell rooftop tent. 270 awning, shower tent. All light weight stuff. Even have a dunny stored away. . Still under my GVM ! So love your GQ and your channel ✅

    I run some genuine landcruiser convex mirrors, a bit expensive but they bolt straight on, dont stick out like micky mouse ears but give excellent vision. Im surprised you haven't quarter chopped and replaced the rear bar.

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd love a rear bar but weight is the issue, when we hook up the trailer there is a lot at the very rear of the chassis and don't want any extra. Cheers for watching 👍, I've thought about those cruiser mirrors and wondered how they go

    Great vid. Like the suggestion of using the mat with reflective side from Kmart to keep the back cool. Was looking at something to do with mine. Definitely will be trying this mod - can I ask how you secured it. Thinking of automotive double sided tape but interested in what you used.

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it's either double sided tape or possibly Velcro, I haven't taken them off since put them in. They work a treat and easy to cut to size 🤠

    I love what you do. I know I've said it before, but every time I see your rig and trailer...
    I would be tempted to set the trailer up with LT highway tyres...they don't drive so the don't need to be M/T's and offer less rolling resistance - especially important offroad where you have to use the patrol to overcome the extra rolling resistance of the M/T's.

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah we swapped them to all terrain to match the patrol. Don't know if it was a mistake going 33x12.5x15, great off road but definitely uses more diesel to pull it

    Lovely Ep and set up Guys, I fitted Air bag Man Airbags with Kevlar covers in the back of our old 80 series They did not fit in our Coils nicely and one cover has torn, with in a few weeks of just driving on the black top. Not impressed so for, in 7 weeks I am doing a 8 to 12 week trip up to Weipa and the Gulf and maybe Kimberly, I recon they will not last. It should have on them to use with a certain size Coil. say 250 to 300kg max. ours are 600kg coils,

    Hi, I will soon be looking for a second-hand patrol. Around 30 to 40 k. I like low km. What should I look for. I want one with little modifications.

    • @GoingOverland
      @GoingOverland  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Go for a td42 and if you can find a non turbo diesel, it's probably not been over worked. Look closely for rust in the roof, sills and windows, everything else can be fixed, but rust is a huge problem

      I'm not sure, we bought it second hand for $200, was told it's a tjm, definitely not a arb which pushes out around the winch. Either way I think it's a great looking bullbar
