Licensing issues are a total bitch when it comes to anime characters. That's why it's pretty much considered a stupid idea to put Goku in Smash. If you want a Smash experience with Goku, play McLeod Gaming's Super Smash Flash 2.
Yeah, Goku and Shrek were pretty bad ideas. However, Wolf and Snake were above her as well. Both had been in Brawl, so it would've been just as easy to convert their Brawl forms into Sm4sh as converting Bayo from her games.

I just love the fact all of the Bayonoobs, who said that Bayo pre-patch was balanced and and who said Bayo post-patch was low tier or bottom tier, are gone. There's almost no question now that, if she didn't get the nerf she got, she would have become the Smash 4 meta itself. Bayonetta has always been a good character, but no character in any modern fighting game these days should be as powerful as she was. The proof lies in the data and the results, now. There wasn't really any significant results because patch 1.1.5 lasted like, what? a month? a month and a half? We all knew she was going to get nerfed sooner or later. However no one ever conquered any majors such as evo, ceo or even something like smash con with her. Then again, she got nerfed a couple of months before said majors.

In a game situation..... shed literally never be hurt because she can slow down time, she can sow time within time (and so on), she can also parry any attack no matter how strong (literally the description of the ability), she can infinitely witch time with no penalty, and she can infinitely bat within, which is getting hit but still escaping (like substitution jutsu)
She also has panther within which is insanely fast, and she can survive underwater and in space
Shes basically smash 4 sonic, but in her game.
Oh and all of that actually gives her power. She doesn't lose energy using witch time or bat within or parrying btw, it's the opposite

ItsASquid Oh I know they're all obnoxious in general, I just mean Bayonetta is especially bad because playing against her kind of gives you bad habits for other matches. Especially air dodging and such when you're smash DI'ing out of combos and air dodging practically everything in the air.
I especially hate her n-air and u-air because you pretty much have no viable way to avoid it if they just hold A down because it will catch you out of an air dodge and a counter is useless unless you use it at the right level.

I second Bayonetta and when I fight her with my main (Ganon) I usually have a hard time...She's really crazy and witch time is dangerous.... the reason why not a lot of people aren't doing well against Bayonetta is because she isn't a common character therefore people don't have mu experience unlike Cloud... He's obnoxious but most of us know the MU because literally everyone plays him... so yeah, Fighting as much Bayo's (good ones) can really help us all

witchtime needed to be based on damage dealt like a normal counter. i.e. the more damage that move does, the longer you're slowed down
This isn't really true. It slows you down for a very long time if it's not stale regardless of the attack being countered.

I only dabbled a little bit with Super Smash Brothers on the 64 when I was a kid. I didn’t play any other installments. I picked up smash ultimate because I was excited to revisit smash again. Anyways, I was looking up videos for Bayonetta matches and what not and this video came up. I thought it was well constructed. The music selection was perfect. I had never seen the movie 28 Days Later until now. So glad I watched this video, because I would’ve missed out on a really good movie.

I think this history is a *very* good example of what is wrong with both the developers and players of Smash Bros today.
The developers have been extremely sloppy with the entire development. It took us *days* to figure out Bayonetta was broken. They designed and tested her for *months* and couldn't get to this conclusion. Their work is so sloppy because of their mindset of being able to patch out anything that goes wrong. Then in the end they will meet with time contraints, entirely screw up the patching and leave us something like the Bayonetta situation.
On the other hand players just rely on having the developers rush to their aid and nerf any character that they feel is too powerful. Bayonetta in her pre-patch state was never even fully explored. People have threatenned to quit playing on her first few days. The complaints even started before her release.
Before patches, people were forced to find ways around the characters and actually learn about the MU. Today people rather spend their time complaining and waiting for a nerf. That is just terrible.

Players will ALWAYS find more about a game the the developers or play testers ever will.
This is not the fault of the developers. Its simply impossible and implausible for a dev team to aquire enough time and people to be able to find as much as the community can.
Thats not developers being sloppy. Developers don't play games competitively they won't catch things the way Players do because they don't play the games the same way. Players will always find stuff since they have more time to focus on it than players do.
The answer to this is that when they playtested Bayonetta, I don't think they had competitive in mind. The developers have never supported competitive Smash Bros until Smash Brothers Ultimate, in fact they specifically made Brawl to be anti-competitive.

Honestly I love Bayo as a character. I voted for her in the poll, and when she was announced I was more hyped about it than I had been for literally any other character. Bayonetta is one of my favorite games, and seeing her brought to Smash 4 was like a dream come true. I understand that when they converted her from her games, she was pretty OP, cause in her games that's kinda the point. It wasn't a good transition as far as balance was concerned. I will defend Bayo, not because of how good she is, but because of how much I love her as a character.

Fox is broken but not OP like pre patch Bayo, and Brawl MK. Brawl MK was OP in every aspect except ranged, which he didn't need at all. I think even M2K said it himself, MK felt like a Melee character. No matter how you played him, patiently, aggressively, MK was an offensive character just like how most of the top tiers in Melee are. This is why many people in the early days of Brawl thought MK was fun to watch because he was a very fast and offensive character that many could play him aggressively and thus matches would be very quick paced. Heck, even mango himself said that Brawl could be played at a really fast paced, in other words saying Brawl had the speed to actually play at a fast pace like Melee (of course, not all marches were like that). However, that was the problem, MK felt like he was made to be a Melee character, while everyone else wasnt. No lag on his moves, all oh his specials being recovery moves, multiple jumps, gliding, dat 2-frame up-air, etc.

i think the bayo nerf was awesome. they still managed too keep her as a good character and preserved most of what made her special (combos and crap) intact while making her not completely broken. i think a lot of good bayo players are getting the respect they deserve now.

Cloud is not even top 5 because he basically gets destroyed by Sheik and Bayo while also losing to other characters like MegaMan and also basically only won 1 decently sized tournament ( SmashDownWorld won by Komorikiri with also the help of Sonic ), Rosa loses to MK hard and doesn't win shit and Sonic well he pisses off everyone and at optimal level he is pretty much infuriating but even then he loses to Fox, MegaMan and Cloud still not needed of a nerf. IMO

Bayonetta was such a controversial character and definitely the most controversial. Some people believe she didn't win the smash ballot, she had broken combos, and she was seen as too sexual for smash by so casuals.

MLPAiden not really. Fox has clear cut weaknesses and requires ALOT of technical gameplay to succeed. He is really strong, but his matchups aren't completely one sided against the other top tiers (which are the only characters that really matter).
metaknight was completely broken with moveset, had hardly any close match ups, and was far easier to pick up. He decimated the rest of the cast in a game that was FAR more balanced than melee(aside from metaknight and ice climbers) and was banned. I enjoy melee way more than brawl, but metaknight definitely takes the cake in stupidity. Fox has jank like frame 1 invincible shine and some other things, but his decent recovery and being easy combo food to where you can get 0'd to death makes things a little more balanced.

Bayonetta really was a roller-coaster, but I'm glad she's really hype to watch again. Before, her combos were just inescapable, and now that she's been hit with her nerfs, the amount of work that goes into those same combos are super tight.

The nerf was the best thing that ever happened to Bayonetta. There's nothing greater than getting a witch time near the ledge, tapping them once, and then down smash only for them to tech the wall forcing you to go off stage to finish them off. The whole moment is tense.
It's also amazing that you don't have to put down the controller every time you get caught in one of her combos because with certain characters it was physically impossible to SDI out of her specials.

"She became more about the followup than the neutral", Zero liked the character because she was good in neutral with her throws and such, and was no longer suited to him.
