I’ve always felt that the guitar tone and the name of the song fit perfectly together. The tone (especially in that intro riff) just sounds so slimy, putrescent and rotten.
I was there, front row, somewhere in the pit. I was working as a stage hand at the tent stage, and I operated the changing banners for some awful power metal band. When Obituary started to play, I just said "see ya" and left them standing to see Obituary. They were pissed and I did not get paid, but I didn't care. I had a blast! Death Metal Victory.
@XingFisher666 Just listened back to it, pretty sure that's Trevor in the left channel and you're right he's sharp. If my ears don't deceive me, Allen and Frank are playing in same key, but Frank looking at him like he's wrong suggests that it's something that's happened before. It's happened to me in bands. Although once a bee landed on my bass while on tour in Italy and I couldn't play. I kept shouting "BEE!" at other guitarist. He kept shouting "CEE!!" back at me.
I've watched all of the available content from this live. What is really you cool is you can see Frank constantly checking on Alan every now and then if he is going to go through the gig. Apart from that this is my favorite Slowly we rot live performance. Guitars in different keys, slow tempo, everything makes is really bad*ss.
ALL time classic by the legendary OBITUARY. ....YES YES YES......HEAVY AS FUCKING HELL.....JUST MAKES YOU WANT TO PUT YOUR HORNS IN THE AIR AND BANG THAT HEAD!!!!!!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘....CROWEMAN IN THE UK EX G.D
The part at 0:40 looks funny as hell, Frank Watkins trying to show that Allen has to shift up 2 semitones. Allen looks like 'huh, I've always played this song like this'. And he's right too, because he's the one playing in key (like on the album).
@MarkPJordan Haha hilarous story with the bee. :-) Still it's a pity about Allen, especially since he was really one of my favourite guitar players when I was a kid. Actually he got me into playing leads, the way he played was different than most did. He played more lightning fast blues scales and they always were really recognizable to me and not pointless shred. Drugs are bad.
Obituary are one of Death metals best, giants amongst the insects of the genre, the sound on this isn't the best, West seems out of it but Donald is a fucking brute always, the unsung hero of the band but the guitar tone is one of if not the best thing about the band for me, Trevor is a hero of mine, no frills sludge laden riffs. When I seen them live I just stood infront of him with my mouth open, pure magic lol
@MarkPJordan I just saw your reaction after I posted about the same part. But unless they together decided to play the beginning part 2 semitones higher for Wacken, Allen is the one playing right. Compare to the original version and all other versions on TH-cam, Allen is the one playing in key, although it doesn't look like it. :-) For the rest I agree it's a pity, I hope Allen can ditch the drugs.
I have seen them on Fuck The Commerce Festival in 2005. They were so bad I left before they played "Slowly we Rot" 😅 But I have to admit that with more live practice the become were good since those times. But come on, if you think this is good... don't be silly and don't call yourself music fan.
Definitely the soloist is playing sharp, Trevor is playing in D. Frank the bass player even stands looking at him at 0:40 to see if he knows he's playing in the wrong key and Allen just kind of looks back at him plaintively. His timing's also all over the place throughout the song. Pity.
Yeah, but you've got two guys playing in two different keys while in two different time signatures while not being in tune or on a consistent tempo. That makes up.for it.
I wanna marry this guitar tone
It sounds like a fever
Fuck yeah !

I love this live video because you can hear the rhythm guitar and the drums more which is pure badass
R.I.P. friend Franck death metal forever!!!!!
I always catch myself coming back to this live version
Alan is off his face and fucks the riff up, but still nails the lead perfectly ...
best part of the vid
I love how they slowed shit down to a classic heavy metal groove..
Exactly how Celtic Frost slowed their songs down during that period. This groove is basically Morbid Tales.
I love this song... 9july2020
The best death metal band ever, even better live..
Johns voice is so unique and sing so fucking well Thank You !!
Like a lion
The video quality of Wacken 2005 is fucking awesome.
I'm not sure *anyone's* playing in the same key until 1:10... They're on fire from there on out, though.
I listened the same.

The original lineup. 🤘
rip frank Watkins
🤘
Brutal music yg sangat rapi ..kurasa ini metal yg sbnarya 😀😎
Peak male music
One of guitar player is playing in the wrong key. dunno if it's Allen or Trevor
Allen is drunk… as usual
Slowly we rot is a standard E guitar tune, i think Allen was playing in drop D if i'm not wrong.
The band has played in D standard in studio and live (songs from Slowly We Rot were played D standard for live shows) since the second record.
lord,,,,, allen west was a ghost of himself... he fucked up badly on this one.... anyway..we remember his 90s recordings.. great and unique player
+wiltzer1 sadly drugs and mostly alcohol fucked him up..
Oh yes
0:38 Fucken wasted.. You can hear it in the guitar. Say no to heroin, kids

All of em. But particularly the first four.
Nice
The lead guitar is so poker-faced...
Is that CHINO from Deftones playing bass guitar???😂😂
1:42 let the slaughter start

The hair says it all
I read somewhere that Allen got fired after this...but dunno.
BenEnyuh No dude get your facts right. He went to jail because of drugs.

We had Chino Moreno and Vladimir Putin playing some hard hitting death metal together
hmm they have a few problems with the guitar tone at the beginning he?
Putin says "death metal, symbol of free west" da?
what the obituary's line up here ?
Classic

Ni sada te ne doživljavam kao objekat, razmisli malo, šta te asocira na proljeće...

You can clearly see that Trevor is playing the riff two frets too high, Allen has it correct
Lead guitarman is slightly upset😂😂😂😂😂
No bell @ 0:29 😟 so not classic
Yeah, but you've got two guys playing in two different keys while in two different time signatures while not being in tune or on a consistent tempo. That makes up.for it.
Silvio Rodriguez is sad here because he needs to play la era està pariendo un corazòn :(
jaja te pasastes
