Thank you everyone for watching! The group of Cycads that I am standing in front of at Gizella Kopsick Palm & Cycad Arboretum in Saint Petersburg, Florida, are actually Encephalartos ferox. After I watched myself in this video, I realized that I made a mistake in the Garden Center's phone number. The following information is regarding the Garden Center's address, phone number and Spring/Summer hours of operation. Earth Works Garden Center 12501 Beach Boulevard Jacksonville, Florida 32246 (904) 996-0712 Hours of operation: Monday - Saturday 8:00AM to 6:00PM Sunday 10:00AM to 5:00PM Earth Works has been classified as an ESSENTIAL BUSINESS! 🌴🌴🌴
Hey David! Do Mule Palms make fruit like the Pindo palms even though they are hybrids? I read the seeds are not viable just like you said in the video.
Great video David! I really enjoyed it! I'd love to hear you discuss hybrids and the "super mule". I'd love to know the visual differences, but also the speed of how fast they grow.
Are they really as cold hardy as a pindo (15F - 10C)?i ordered a pindo but I prefer the look and slimmer trunk of the mule, plus the faster growth rate but worried about hardiness. I am in toronto and will need to winter protect but i don't want to switch to a mule if it's less cold hardy.
Possibly in a micro climate in those zones as they are rated for zones 8b-11 and cold tolerant to 14F. Thanks for asking John! blogs.ifas.ufl.edu/nassauco/2017/05/21/fact-sheet-mule-palm/
@@EarthWorksJax Thank you! I think I will try it here. I know here we are in 7b/8a and temps generally go down to about 19F at the least. in 2011 it went down to 12F I have seen Sabals, Pindos, Windmills growing here. How tall of a trunk should a Mule palm have to survive the 14F temperatures? Would a seedling hold up?
@@johnortiz979 seedling versus a well established one won't do as well. That said as you are going ahead anyway try to protect from Northern exposure and protect during those extra cold periods. Good luck & Happy gardening!
David is amazing and need a raise $$$$ love this guy so knowledgeable.
Excellent observation, you have a lot of material to work with there!

I wonder if the ones that take more characteristics from the mule are more hardy?🤔🤔

Is their fruit edible?

Do you guys help with conservation of that endangered species of cycad?
David do you know where to get seeds

How tall can they eventually get?
Do they develop fruit?

Great video, do you think I could grow a mule or super mule in the atlanta area zone 8a
I'm asking myself the same question. I want to know if it holds up here in Lawrenceville, GA.
@@johnortiz979 im growing a few pindos, windmills and 2 sylvesters. I like the mule. I'm definitely going to try
I'm with you! I'll give it a try as well
@@johnortiz979 I have a person who gets alot of palm trees, very reasonable.
Yeah? I'm probably going to try a 15gallon to start. Who is your contact?
