    i just bought a td 9 and am impressed by your detail and expertise ...you are a scientist at heart. i hope to see your further repairs and uses of this machine...also, i a bought a japanese rubber track paddy vehicle and much appreciated your video about your garden tractor/track build...my rig came without the drive sprockets but with 2 new 230x72x42 tracks so i will probably burn some 8 tooth sprockets from 1" plate. your preaching to the choir with me. thanks!

      Glad you got something out of the video. It is hard to determine how much detail is too much. I don't want to put out some 5 min teaser video just showing you before and after shots without showing you how to do it yourself. If you haven't already, head over to the Red Power Magazine construction equipment forum. Lots of guys on there giving and getting advice on fixing up their TD tractors.

    I always wondered what a diesel fuel injector pump looks like inside, thanks!

      Glad you liked it. I'm no expert, but I think that is typical of most American Bosch (AMBEC?) pumps are constructed. Like a little inline four cylinder engine. The IH "A" pump on the other hand, has one plunger and a distributor to send the fuel to each injector. I haven't taken one of those apart yet.

    Thank you for the video on the Bosch fuel pump! May I ask where you found a manual for it? I bought the American Bosch injector manual from Jensales and it doesn’t cover the disassembly and testing. I am restoring my dad’s Farmall MD and it has the Bosch injection system, like your TD. The #3 cylinder is not getting fuel. The plunger is stuck in the body. It looks like I have to remove the camshaft in order to remove the plunger.
    Thank you!

      I am so glad you found it useful. Makes it worth my while. I got my manual from Jensales. I purchased the "International Harvester Service Manual for Diesel Injection Pumps". I think the stock number is IH-S-DSL-PUMP. They refer to it as a Bosch "K" Type pump. Disassembly, inspection, and testing start on page 130. Yes, you will have to remove the cam, followers and then you will have enough clearance to remove the plungers. Let me know if you need any advice. I have a spare pump I got on Ebay, thinking I might need it, and rebuilt it as a spare, if you end up needing it.

      Thank you for the quick reply. I will check the part number of the book I have. Did you have trouble taking the bottom plugs out? I made a tool like you did and tried to remove the bottom plugs and they wouldn’t budge even with a half inch impact wrench. I suspect they used locktite on them.

      Oh yeah, those things were a PITA! I can't remember how I got them out eventually. I think maybe an old fashioned hammer-type impact driver. They have them at Harbor Freight. Try some penetrating oil as well. I'm pretty sure I didn't use any heat since the case is cast iron and the felt wipers on the inside would have caught fire. @@seapilot2

      I now have the correct manual from Jensales (PDF version)! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. It’s nice to know that you have another pump available. Hopefully the one I have just needs a good cleaning. The governor part of it looks like brand new inside. Better than I would have expected on a 76 year old tractor.
      Thanks again! Great video

    Thanks for the video. Do you remember how much lubricating oil it takes in the injector pump.

    • @runforyourlife9684
      @runforyourlife9684  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh, I'd have to check the manual, but it isn't much, like 1.5 pints.

    • @runforyourlife9684
      @runforyourlife9684  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So, my manual says 1/2 a pint of SAE 30 motor oil for the injection pump. What you do is open the overflow valve and then fill with oil from the top till it just starts to drip out. Make sure the overflow valve isn't clogged up with dirt.

      @@bob-the-Millwright If you want to get a manual just for the pump, I got mine from Jensales. The manual designation is IH-S-DSL-PUMP. It covers the IH pumps and the Bosch pumps maintenance and overhaul.

    Hello again,
    It’s me working on my dad’s Farmall MD. Do you happen to remember what the thread size is for the puller to remove the drive gear on the aft end of the camshaft? I thought maybe it was 1-1/8 fine thread but that’s not it. So then I tried a metric 28 mm 1.5 thread. That’s not it either. McMaster-Car doesn’t stock a 28 mm 1.4 thread nut which is what my thread gage says it should be. Would you be interested in renting me your puller? How much do you want for your spare fuel pump? Thanks for your help!

    • @runforyourlife9684
      @runforyourlife9684  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I measured the threads on my tool and they are about 1-1/8" x 18 TPI. I cut the threads myself on my lathe. I can let you borrow the tool, no problem. Send me an e-mail at mmgioia1@gmail.com.

    Are you happy with your td9??I have been offered a td9 for five hundred it's shedded but sprockets are bad on tracks

    • @runforyourlife9684
      @runforyourlife9684  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's fun and simple to work on and that's the catch. If you own one of these you are going to do pretty much everything yourself. It isn't expensive to maintain, but it shouldn't be considered a serious earth moving machine. Don't get me wrong, it is WAY better than not having anything, so for $500 I bet you can't do better. You can still get many of the parts from General Gear, or FP Smith, or other salvage yards if you look around. And if you decide not to mess with it I'm sure you could part it our and make more than your investment.

      Also, the King of Obsolete, up in Canada, has a pretty good site with all sorts of info on TD's. I just think they are neat and shouldn't go to the scrap yard.

      I'd be happy to help you out if you can't find a shop to do it. I can disassemble, clean, and adjust it, but any parts it needs would be an issue without a parts pump.

    Delete if illegal. I was wondering what happened to your bolt action series? It was very entertaining. I figured TH-cam had something to do with it.

      Yeah, TH-cam didn't like it. Not only did they de-monitize it (which I don't care about) but they banned it and put me on probation. I was pretty unhappy about it. I put a lot of work into making those videos, probably doubled the time it took me to make the rifle.
