    My wife and I both love Scotland, have visited there from Texas three times since 2019. Our first visit was well aided with the Explorer Pass from Historic Scotland (we bought ours at Edinburg Castle). It showed us many "off the beaten path" attractions to seek out. One of them was Bonawe Iron Works. Ironically, there were castle ruins that moved us more than Edinburgh Castle. Particularly, Urquardt Castle. Clava Cairns, which is close to Inverness, was also quite amazing. The historical abbey at Iona was magnificient, as was another stop on the same tour to see puffins on a high cliff. All of this was initiated from departing from Oban on a boat. Oban was wonderful to see, especially the Nori's Fish and Chips, and the gift shop at the Oban distillery. I hope we go back to Scotland soon. Like another person said, the Isle of Skye is staggering in its beauty. I could go on and on as I am reminded, and I have not seen a huge part of Scotland yet.

    Right - I love Dundee as it's my home city, but I would not put it in the top 4 places in Scotland haha. I definitely would not put it above the highlands, edinburgh and glasgow haha. In my opinion, the top places are Glencoe, loch lomond and the trossachs (you can give stirling a miss), Cairngorms, and anywhere on the west coast. If you want see the real Scotland, avoid the big cities.

    We've lived in Scotland for the past 25 years and enjoy it immensely. You can have several seasons or climates in a single day over the vast sweep of the highland area where we stay. The day may begin with a springlike rain and mist, progress to sunshine and a hot summery afternoon, and end in a star-filled sky and evening around the woodburner that feels like winter's on the way. We began living in Fife at St. Andrews, moved to Edinburgh for the years my children were at university and retired to a village in Perthshire. All hugely interesting historically and truly beautiful, each in its own way. The scenery and wildlife are magnificent. The people are friendly with a great sense of humour and they love to celebrate at the drop of a hat. The only downside is that, if you aren't from here, you'll never be "Scottish" and will remain forever an outsider at some level. That we've yet to overcome and the precedents aren't good. Even so, I've no regrets and believe we picked a country where I'll be happy to live indefinitely.

      This is strange, I lived in Northern Highland and am about to return home. We were always accepted as ‘locals’ as we embraced the Highland life 101%. I’m English by birth.

    • @ninecatsmagee8384
      @ninecatsmagee8384 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know Scots who had problems moving from Edinburgh to the Isle of Mull and were never accepted. It somewhat depends on how rural the situation. More rural -- more closed. And, they were looked on as "a class above" in a society that's so strongly hierarchical. It also depends on what you're "embracing" as Highland life. If I were to jump into the drinks culture that would probably be another story. But I don't drink.

      Cold, sloppy if there's been snow. But generally snow melts fast, the Council grits the streets and sidewalks, and the city keeps moving.@@bonniea8189

    I really enjoyed the video, it’s really interesting how you ranked each of these places, a somewhat unconventional choice of ranking placing Dundee, Aberdeen & Inverness above Edinburgh and Glasgow. The omission of the Hebrides and the North coast was also a bit surprising. There are so many places in Scotland worth a visit and many of them will be somebodies favourite spot
    If any other viewers are planning a trip to Scotland I would suggest watching a good number of these types of video to form an opinion of where you’d like to visit as everyone has a different favourite and all views are subjective ( not in anyway a criticism of this video).

    You missed one very important point at st Andrew’s. You show the students & faculty walking in their red robes but you don’t say why. When I was there every Sunday morning they do this to pay tribute to the students and faculty who died tragically in the sea. It is a sight to behold with all that red marching to the sea

The Picts (Scottish) kicked the shite out of the romans who gave up and went back south...Scotland is a very welcoming country and not only has the oldest National flag in the world, but has a very very proud people and past. Fantastic vlog realy showing how majestic Scotland is and great pronounciations, (sorry i'm Dislexic).
    2 points though, the stunning beaches on the East coast, yep there are great beaches but the West coast has got wonderful beaches with palm trees. But they also have MIDGIES, horrid tiny flying blood suckers. In season you can see swarms so thick they can cover clothes so much you can not see the colour of shirt etc, these gits will get in your hair, ears, nose anywhere everywhere. They will suck leaving red lumps that are very itchy very like a Mosquito bight. I have found a dab of Tea Tree oil behind your knees, anckles around your middle, on your wrists, on your neck and in your hair on your scalp is the best way too put the sneaky wee gits off. A dab of the oil on a bite will help with the pain and help stop the itch, they are so bad locals will where a wide brimmed hat with a very fine net to make a vail to stop them getting to them, also rubber bands for your sleaves will help you servive.
    MIDGS don't touch me now i think it's because i'v had loads of opperations and my blood is nasty now thanks to Morphine, Cyclizine, Ketamine etc.
    The other point was to do with the East coast breaches , yes they are stunning BUT dip your toe in it for a split second and your toe will fall off. The water is what we do describe as Baltic, omg look but don't touch.
    Great vid.

      visited Fort William years ago..I was curious and persuaded my husband to take a little road because I was interested to see where it went...narrow road and my husband was not happy...we saw great scenery, a lovely monument with stones for each of the clans(was told that was where the clans gathered to pledge allegiance to Bonnie Prince Charlie)? kept driving to small town, came to the top of a hill and the road just stopped, period, turn around,the village was Where you caught the ferry to the Hebrides. For many, many years my husband told the story about when his wife made him take the road to the end of the world!!!

    As an American that just found out that I have a lot of Scottish English and Irish DNA can you become a citizen of Scotland based on the amount of DNA you have?

    • @WanderingWithPurpose
      @WanderingWithPurpose  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No, you cannot become a citizen of Scotland based solely on the amount of Scottish DNA you have. Citizenship and residency requirements are typically based on legal and residency criteria rather than genetic or ancestral heritage.
      Scotland is part of the United Kingdom, so citizenship processes and rights would fall under UK immigration rules. These rules typically consider factors like birthright, long-term residency, marriage to a UK citizen, and other legal pathways.
      However, having Scottish ancestry could potentially aid in obtaining a UK Ancestry Visa, but specific criteria must be met. For example, one of the requirements for this visa is that you must have a grandparent who was born in the UK.
      If you're interested in living, working, or becoming a citizen in Scotland (or anywhere in the UK), it's essential to consult the official immigration and visa guidelines or seek advice from an immigration attorney.

      The last video I watched put Orkney at the very bottom. I want to go there & the Hebrides & all the other prehistoric places first, but I think I’m only ever going to be an armchair archaeologist! Erica❤

    I thonk Scotland is massively overrated.
    Its not THAT beautiful, and like a lot of countries, it is largely completely unremarkable.
