There was a lot at play in this movie and its first watch can be a bit disorienting until the big reveal and even then you showed me (someone who has watched this 8 times now) that because bruce ignored the financial aspect of his families legacy Riddler was able to exploit that unknowingly and expose the renewal fund. The Batman perfectly highlights that transition that bruce goes through from an emotional and ragefilled batman who punches with the weight of grief to a matured Batman that is still rough around the edges but has the mindset of classic Batman we know today. Good movie.
A Batman that doesn't care for human life is no batman
People are praising the film for showing his detective side, but the best part of it is that it showed a Batman who learned that saving people is priority

Fun fact: Apparently Pattinson took inspiration from Mask of the Phantasm for his take on Batman. Which just makes my respect for him shoot up because the DCAU version of Batman is arguably one of the best versions of the character.

@@cherishporter5314 Unfortunately, James is right. It's explained in a tie-in comic for Batman Beyond about how Bruce and Babs got together and it's just as bad as you'd think. So to cope, everyone pretty much agrees it's not cannon in any way, shape or form.
A thing I feel is really important to this Batman, this Bruce, that you didn't mention is how much he cares about children. Once he sees the mayoral candidate's son for the first time, he NEVER takes his eyes off of him, both at their home and at the funeral, he is always making sure that the boy is okay. In my opinion, this Bruce is the only live-action Bruce Wayne who would ACTUALLY adopt a young Dick Grayson after his parents are killed. This is the only live-action Batman who would teach Dick how to control his anger and train him to plan rationally about how to take down the people who took his parents from him. This is the only live-action Bruce Wayne who would be the father that Dick needs at that point in his life.
And I really hope that we get a sequel that actually goes into Bruce and Dick as father and son.
I also hope we’ll see Dick Grayson in a sequel. Pattinson and Reeves have both expressed interest, and as you mentioned in your comment there’s a lot of details that could provide a logical setup for the inclusion of a Robin.
I think this batman needs 1 more film alone, the first film was how to be batman, the second film should be how to be Bruce Wayne... the third film, if there is one, should be how to he a father

Honestly The Batman shows us something I love about Batman despite everything Batman is human, he is flawed he makes mistakes, he may be smart but hes still falliable, hes made so many mistakes and is always held back by his inner trauma and darkness, but above all that hes a man who is willing to strive, to fight, to stay determined to fight his inner darkness and the worlds darkness and that to me is what makes Batman such a good character

I know the Batman Bros are gonna hate me for this but I really didn’t find this movie to be great. We get a sad, brooding Bruce Wayne but we don’t get any information other than “ok he’s sad”. He never delves into why he’s sad and never in the narration does he delve into his inner psyche. What’s worse, this film really just shows Batman to a be mediocre detective, unable to even solve Dad riddles. Finally, this film is so damn contradictory. Objectively Batman fails . He creates the riddler, he follows the riddlers trail, and in the climax, so many people die. And it’s all on Batman. So the realisation that Bruce has that he needs to be a “symbol for hope” is moot when in the end all those people die because of his existence.

Batman felt.... Human. A ghostly character, depressed, lost, haunted, angry, suffocating, melancholic, driven, ready to jump into his death , not minding what toll batman takes on his body but scared to be vulnerable, scared to be bruce , to face his sadness. Ready to take hit after hit on his body yet afraid to be vulnerable to get scarred on his heart again
But apart from those emotions he’s cool beans
A Batman with this vulnerability is a perfect way to introduce a character like Dick grayson or any robin because Bruce will be forced to have to examine his own ways and his example to the Robin

Robert Pattinson was the most convincing Batman I’ve ever seen on screen. I actually bought that he’s out every single night for the past 18 months fighting crime and doing nothing else at all.
I was blown away from his performance.
At first I was disappointed when batman doesn't use his normal gear, or show off his advance detective skills, and beat the shit out of his foes without difficulty but I realized this Batman is still new to this. Batman had to start somewhere and clearly he still has his trauma lingering around him this movie is a master piece and I bet as the years moving forward it will be considered a classic.
Personally, I hope they continue and make a cinematic universe from this movie where we can see him grow and become more experienced as both a hero and a detective.
I thought he had great detective skills for being Year Two.

What I love about battison is that he feels very “real”. The way you feel his lack of sleep, the subtle double take he has when he leaps off the building and entire ending really makes me feel like he’s one of the few Batman I could legitimately, sit down and talk with. Something I haven’t felt with since, dcau Batman
It's a much more intriguing Batman in a lot of cases because the persona, "The Batman" isn't as fully formed yet so you get a mix of what he's starting to become with the more humanity focused side of the character
I think this is why I liked this Batman the best and why I think it’s very comic accurate. (I’m not claiming it’s the most accurate, there are of course many different interpretations even in the comics.)
He’s human at the end of the day. I think the other movies sometimes forget that. In the Nolan verse Batman goes through a cool training montage and the film portrays his ascent really well. But it’s very much a cliched good vs evil scenario. Which I suppose is fair enough for a superhero film lol
In Burton’s flick Batman’s angst is subtly hinted at. And that’s fine, it works for their respective movies and I love both. And yes I like watching the Snyderverse version too lol
But all of them forget that it takes more than a watchful kindhearted Alfred to make Batman truly relatable.
But this one really examines Batman’s psyche. His angst and what his quest for vengeance actually costs him. He hasn’t learnt how to act like the air headed socialite yet, because he’s likely too sleep deprived to care. He hasn’t learnt how to deal out justice properly yet, because he’s still grieving and angry. But over time he learns that he can’t just solve crimes and bash up the baddies. He needs to be a symbol of hope for the people of Gotham. Someone that they can count on even in the darkness. And this film showed that realisation in a realistic (albeit) gritty manner. That’s just more interesting than watching a heart of gold Boy Scout always doing the right thing because he’s a superhero. Batman is a superhero sure, but this version is someone you feel like giving a sympathetic ear to after his night. Maybe even offering him a drink lol
Though my favourite on screen Batman will always be from The Arkham games lol

I loved The Batman, but one of my favorite small detail in the film is how he doesn’t go by Batman all the time. Everyone calls him vengeance, and at the end, he shows Gotham the light and earns the name Batman
Riddler calls him Batman.

I saw this movie with my mom. I loved this version of Batman, human, broken, and so full of rage. I also like how Bruce discovers that his mother and father aren't pure and incorruptible.
Don't get me wrong; I love The Nolanverse movies, but I love the idea of the Bruces family not being solely angels.
It makes the whole Batman mission type thing much more intriguing when not even some of Batman's motivators were wholly good.
But why does it have to be his parents? The Wayne family has been around for hundreds of years, maybe thousands, why do Bruce's parents have to be bad? They don't have to be perfect, but these days it seems like every writer wants to make them villains.

This version of Batman had so much substance and "Batman-ness" to him. I didn't like how the DCEU turned Bruce Wayne into a cheap knockoff of Tony Stark. 'The Batman' gave us a fantastic Batman and Bruce Wayne.

ur talking about josstice league bro we don’t mention that films existence. zack snyders justice league is the real definitive version of the batman in the dceu. check it out if u haven’t already. i love battinson and batfleck and want more of their versions, one is young and rash then the other one is a mature experienced veteran who has made mistakes (bvs) and becomes the batman we know from the cartoons which is what batfleck supposed to be
I definitely liked him more than the others, but I still kinda feel like we've yet to see a Batman with a real personality in the live-action films. He's always so stiff, so overly serious. The Batman I fell in love with in the 80s was pretty sassy, pretty sardonic, and had a wicked sense of humor. I remember in the Dark Knight Returns, he and Carrie Kelly has this fantastic back-and-forth banter, with him always threatening to fire her if she didn't follow his orders to the letter, and her just doing whatever she wanted anyway, and saving his bacon. That was great. I've yet to see anything like that in these overly serious post-Nolan films, even this new one. The DC Animated Batman has way more personality than any of the film versions.
Don't get me wrong, I loved this film, and I thought Pattinson did a fantastic job with the role he was given. I'd just like to see Batman be a little more fun, a little less humorless.
It took a while for a true adaptation of batman to come to the big screen. Hope they continue on this path

If the ending is hinting Joker, then unfortunately we may get another Joker.
However, a better rogue would be Hush. Riddler is there, and Hush is the perfect main villain to manipulate post Riddler Gotham, since Penguin is looking to take over, and Selina or another love interest could be manipulated to mess with Batman. Plus, he fits the tone of this Batman series best.
If they really want to do Joker, at least make it an origin story Joker, namely the Red Hood pre-Joker and how that gang caused trouble, then the post credit scene is that one member becoming Joker. Again, fits the tone of the environment they set up for this Batman.
I love the Batman alot and this is definitely not a flaw but I love how the Batman and the Lego Batman movie have very similar characterization but one plays it straight and the other plays up the comedy of it
What I loved about Pattinson's performance is how haunted and somber he looked as Batman. It's exactly how I would imagine someone like Batman to look.
Probably one of the best portrayals of Batman I’ve ever seen, it just makes him feel like a man learning to inspire hope rather than just an entity of pure vengeance and anger.
Honestly, if DC plans to start out a reboot to the DCEU, I think this is a great start.
I like the previous batman as much as everyone else, but Robert's take is on point! The trauma, the presentation, his humanity, even his detective skills! Sure the previous batman has gadgets and such, but he is called World's Greatest Detective for a reason.
i'd really rather they just let this series stand on it's own. they have no idea what the fuck they're doing with the dceu and i'd rather they not drag battinson down with them when they have a really good thing here.the closest thing to a "universe" i'd want to see them do with this is add more bat family characters in and maybe give them their own spinoffs.

Isn’t that what happened with Man of Steel though? The studio saw the success of the Avengers from the previous year and decided to just go with it despite not having a real plan in place?
@@robstefani9853 Yeah...that's WB fault though, not the DCEU. If they take it slowly like how Marvel did, then it might of been better, but of course WB thinks of the short term instead of the long term.
@@Jamfrog35 I think you can't really separate the DCEU from WB management style. It was what it was because they were trying to recreate what Marvel had done. In theory, making a Superman film, adding Batman to the sequel, and then finishing with a two-part Justice League film is actually a great idea. The problem is, you need the right creative people, not just the ones with the most bluster. You need a creative vision, not just the intention of outdoing whatever it was Marvel was doing. And the thing is, even Marvel doesn't seem able to recreate their own success. The MCU worked, I think, because it just kinda grew out of its own individual successes. Everyone trying to recreate it falters at the first hurdle, making a film as simple and likeable as Iron Man. You need to do that a couple of times before you try making the Avengers.
If there's something wanting about the movie, to me, it's how little Batman or Gordon seemed to think Annika mattered. I get that this was a part of the narrative, that they're so concerned with who was killing the "important" people, they didn't give a second thought to the actual dead girl in the trunk of the policeman's car. Meanwhile, her final act, in calling Selina and recording her own murder, was the key to bringing down Falcone. Then. she was never mentioned again. It didn't just seem like an oversight on Batman's part, it felt like Matt Reeves' oversight. I was waiting for Selina to really confront Batman about it, to rake him over the coals for his callous obliviousness. It just felt like her key purpose in the film was to hammer that point home, but she pulled her punches.
Every character in this movie is my favorite version of those characters, outside of TAS. Batman, Gordon, Riddler, Penguin. Everyone involved in the making of this movie knocked it out of the park.
I think this trilogy is gonna show us his transformation from pure vengeance to true justice
As someone once said, if your Batman can scare criminals but doesn't inspire hope to children, then you haven't written him well enough
This was the Batman film I’ve waited my whole life for, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
First Batman since the animated series I really connect with and relate to. And the riddler in this movie? Amazing. So gritty and believable. This whole movie was a masterpiece
How about arkham video game series?
This is 100% why he's my favorite and what I think to be the best Batman. It shows the nuances of the character finally. The film shows me a Gotham that feels like Gotham! It gives me two characters with actual chemistry and reason for me to care about them. It's so good and god I didn't think I'd see imagery in a Bat film that make me gush more than what I saw in DKR. Falling into the flood waters letting vengeance die and hope be born, a baptism for the symbols that define Batman. And man everything with the flare and after is just peak for me.
The most vulnerable Batman was TAS Batman, literally the only Batman we’ve seen cry and smile and laugh on many occasion.
Even though Peacemaker and Red Hood including a few other Heroes understood that some monsters are irredeemable and too far gone who needs to be put down permanently for the sake of others but Batman still never kills, he's still one of my favorite Superheroes of All time.
Red Hood doesn't even kill people anymore.
Peacemaker is willing to kill someone for peace and not because they're irredeemable.
@@joshheralal8758 depends on which of the newer versions, in some he doesn't kill at all and in others he only doesn't kill in the presence of the batfamily/when he works with them. Tho I have to say that this is what made Red Hood better for me, his moral sense is grey and balanced, bc people like the Joker should die in order for the city to be in peace and safe.

Not saying this is a bad video but this is the ONLY time you haven’t blown my mind with a new insight that I’d never seen or understood about a character before. it’s a testament to how good the movie and acting was that all of this came through on my first watch.

Those five interpretations are perhaps the most saint Batman out there, at least to me.
Batman always been like this but in recent years some people think that Batman can do anything is why we love...no... it's because we can relate and understand him is why we should live The Batman
I’m like 70% sure Riddler knows who Batman is. You see that he was theorizing it, and him dragging out saying his name in the interview felt like he was gauging Batman’s reaction to test his theory.

I watched the movie with my aunt who commented on how pale Bruce was. To me, it was a physical result of how depressed and isolated he was. I loved seeing a more emotionally vulnerable Bruce. I LOVED seeing a Batman that didn’t have everything figured out.

This iteration of Batman is my favourite, it is one I can fully relate to, the ending of the movie has helped me understand that despite every flaw that I have, despite how broken I am, I can use that darkness, those humbling moments as motivation, as a way to find hope and this Batman portrayed that very well.

I think batman is both vegance and hope. It is called justice.
For the stories about the more experienced Batman, a good rule of thumb is that Batman protects Gotham from current criminals, while Bruce Wayne protects it from future criminals.
This version of Batman is most human and flawed person than all the others live action version of him.

One of the most striking elements of this movie's cinematography is the POV shots, simply because you can never tell if they're Batman's or Riddler's. The villain and hero are two sides of the same coin is a theme that has been done to the point of being cliché, but these shots are some of the best examples of that concept being delivered, and they show that even clichés can have new life breathed into them.

I really liked this film. I've been alone in this admiration amongst my peers. The tragic thing is this batman, film, is the closest to the material we have gotten. He really was a comic book fans batman. To which many disagree with. Instead others want the Hollywood batman that took far more liberties with the material and diverged completely in my opinion.
I feel batman was redeemed in this film.
This is automatically the truest representation of Batman on-screen given how close it feels tonally and stylistically to B:TAS and the Arkham series, which I and many others consider the definitive versions of Batman and his mythos.
To be fair, the comics throughout the ages have had a few different interpretations of Batman.
So it kind of depends on which era you’re talking about. Which is where I think the disagreements come from mostly. And that’s fine too.
That all said, I couldn’t agree with you more. To me this was a love letter to the comics and the comic fans.
We all have our opinions on what makes a great Batman and what makes a great portrayal of him. For me this was one of the greats. Easily one of my new favourites. I absolutely loved this film! Not only does this delve into Bruce’s trauma and how that ultimately shapes his Batman persona. And indeed how that grows throughout the film. But we also get to see what he sacrifices as Batman from a mental health point of view. The rest of the lives action adaptions usually simply dismiss that as just the toll from the job. But this really shows you how Batman helps the city and even how Batman helps Bruce himself. And the journey he has to take in order to bring it to a more healthy approach. Well as healthy as dressing up like a giant bat to scare and beat up bad guys actually is lol
Also we finally got a real in depth detective story!!!!

Hey Sage, I know one character that you could make a story about. Arbiter(Thel Vadam) from Halo 2. His story is a redemption arc that I personally think is on par with Zuko's. In the beginning of Halo 2, he was a high ranking Elite(Sangheili) in the covenant and as loyal as they came, but when the first Halo ring in Combat Evolved was destroyed, the prophets were disappointed and stripped him of his rank and Tartarus, chieftain of the Brutes(Jiralhanae) gave him the mark of shame by burning it on him. The prophets then decided to make Thel the Arbiter to redeem himself. He was then sentenced to kill the heretic Sangheili leader. The Heretic leader told arbiter some of the lies the prophets were spewing to the covenant and why he left before arbiter killed him along with 343 Guilty Spark. He then questioned his beliefs about the covenant. He then was sent on a mission to find Sargeant Johnson and Miranda Keyes to retrieve the relic to activate the Halo ring. When they retrieved the relic, Tartarus then betrays arbiter and tells him the prophets ordered him too, during the time The Great Schism began. Then Arbiter along with Chief were held at the will of a Flood Gravemind who spoke poetically and was intelligent. He then showed an Oracle like Guilty Spark and showed the prophet of regret absorbed by the Gravemind. The oracle spoke of what Halo would do to all life, and regret told his religious belief about activating Halo. This made Arbiter question his faith even more. Then the Gravemind teleported Arbiter to where Tartarus and the brutes were taking Miranda Keyes to activate the Halo ring. Arbiter told Tartarus the lies of the prophets that have been corrupting their minds. Then 343 Guilty Spark said to everyone what Halo is actually and is not what they thought it was that the prophets have told them. The line, "Tartarus, the prophets have betrayed us." shows how broken Arbiter was about finding the truth about Halo. Reflecting on how many lives he's killed, many places glassed, all for a lie. Tartarus sadly didn't want to believe Arbiter because his belief of the prophets was too strong and didn't want to believe everything he was working for was for a lie. Arbiter has no choice but to kill him. Then in Halo 3, Arbiter and his elite soldiers team up with the humans, stop the covenant, and then he kills the prophet of truth and finally makes peace with the humans, and returns to his homeworld along with his fellow elites. That's a good redemption story that could be compared to Zuko's.
