    My dad developed and built 911s in Zauffenhausen during the 90s. He was involved in the late 964s, all of the 993s and the early 996s. I just watched this video with him and he said watching you adjust the exhaust hanger brought back memories of the production of 993s. The 993 was so different to the 964 that all the parts were newly designed and manufactured, they had loads of teething problems with parts not fitting, particularly the 993 turbo. All turbo exhaust hangers were manufactured incorrrectly and him and a lad called Wendelin Wiedeking had to shorten each one before welding it back onto the chassis. At the time they were under immense pressure to deliver the first customer turbos in nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell, and plummetted sixteen feet through an announcers table. 🥳

    You probably already know this but for locating blind holes if you put a ball bearing in the hole (slightly too big) then place the piece of metal you need to drill over the top and give it a tap with a hammer the ball bearing acts as a centre punch and gives you the hole centre. Works really well for multiple holes.

    • @thomasravn5044
      @thomasravn5044 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you keep the ball bearing in place like in this instance? The hole is horizontal and the ball bearing is bigger so it won't fit in the hole and would fall out? I would really like to know as I've been in this situation several times😀

    On the air-cooled Porsche the engine bay is relatively cool compared to a standard water cooled engine. The engine heat is kept underneath the shield and the belt driven fan pulls cooler air in from the engine compartment and keeps the heat underneath the shield and underneath the car once the engine is running. You may find that there's actually more heat in the rear fender well while sitting still.

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks 👍Yeah keeping the top & bottom panelled in seems to be crucial on these cars. It's still damn hot in there though. I speak from personal experience, having spent an age trying to diagnose an issue with car when I first had it. I can assure you it is really really hot in the engine bay. If this filter position is good enough for a 935 it's good enough for me.

    No bwackits were harmed during the making of this video...well other than the chopped ones! Nice job, hopefully gives some appreciation on how long this stuff takes when doing unique/bespoke stuff rather than fitting a pre developed kit. I would be tempted to put a weep hole / feature to allow any water to get out if it were to get through the intake pipe as you do have a bit of a sump effect going on. No massive deal though really.

    Great bit of fabrication and attention to detail. Well done again. Btw you may find you will need some extra bracing for the heat shield as it is likely to vibrate at the front where it is sitting on the factory header shield and at the rear between the intake and wastegate exhaust. Time will tell though.

    For two car enthusiasts (three in fact, don't forget grinchy Craig 😁😋😍), you're doing a really nice job, best than lots of "professionals". Thumbs up DW team, i'm loving all those videos, and claiming MOAAAAAR! 👍🏻👏🏻

      Cheers. Craig is an actual professional, which is why he's the 'can you just' go to guy with all of the equipment 😄

    I assume Uncle Craig's TH-cam videos also show Phil & Jay sweating for hours on HIS projects, in return for the countless HOURS of welding and fabrication!!!

      I'm not sure about Jay, but Craig & I have an unusual deal where I pay him money for services rendered. 😄

      Cheers. I have one. I've mentioned in the last two episodes, so not sure why I didn't mention it in the one where I actually make the intake 😄

    Where you like "can you just, Craig" lol. Nice work. And this video just made my Friday morning 👌. CAD cardboard aided design. I like that. Where did you guys get that heat shielding from? Are they available to the public? In the UK you guys get some awesome stuff.

      Thanks! The insulation is from Nimbus Motorsport & I think they sell to the public yeah.

    That's turned out really well, awesome work Phil and Craig! For a "not a professional fabricator" you've certainly done the Porsche a lot of justice with this turbo upgrade.

    Looks the nuts and I'm sure the relocation will help with breathing. Wait until you go for a drive. That power band will be something special. Props to Craig as always 😁👍🏽

    God I love this channel. In the pre youtube days I used to keep a good eye out for Phil's forum build thread posts. Reliving the V10 days...

    This was very satisfying to watch :) Good job on the intake! Now I'm curious what the turbo upgrade did to the speed (and sound) :)

    Quality fabrication work. Nice looking intake. I've got to do the same in the next couple of weeks for the supercharger on my R1 motor that's going in my classic mini.

    Will tyre smoke go straight into intake?

      Wouldn't worry about it too much mate , this isn't really the car for doing extended burn outs with all the weight over the back axle and the fact that it's so mint. Even so , behind a fender liner with a k&n filter , it'll be fine.

    • @driftworks
      @driftworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not anything to do with drifting. (Although I am partial to a burnout, in which case it will be fine)
