Beautiful video. I lived at Chiiori in 2003 for a few months and helped run it as a guest house. It was one of the defining experiences of my early life.
When I lived in Japan, around the end of my journey, I decided to step into Iya in remembrance of my reading of Lost Japan. I remember slipping into the train's station room when the door was open, because a calligraphy work had caught my eye, in the hopes of maybe... and so it was! Alex Kerr's own beautiful work, found by mere chance. Thank you, Alex kerr. Through your words I found ways to describe the country that has enraptured me since a child, even when I was not conscious about it.
Beautiful video, please make more like this! I will be talking with Alex Kerr tonight 5pm on #seeksustainablejapan and will mention this video and his many beautiful house renovation projects across Japan
Great visuals and you can really get a sense of beauty and tranquillity of rural -inkagurash (田舎暮らし)-lifestyle.n I would love to make it to Iya someday.
Hello Mr Kerr - I have a home in Agamachi and would like to know whats your opinion on have a TORII as a design on the pathway to a guest room? Is this acceptable?

I would have liked to see a bit of the hikes in remote places around the valley.
