@@TomJoeSHOW hopefully they will allow you to continue with your channel with the same in depth look at at life on a yacht. Is there a yacht in mind yet or just a plan ?
Great question I should of probably mentioned this in the video, partly because of the weather window, Bay of Biscay is bit of a beast but main reason was for the tide time so we could get out.
You're leaving WD? You didn't even trade any paint with the navy ships while extricating yours from the dock. I thought you were Bosun. Musta missed where you got promoted.
With modern vectored propulsion and reliable and robust engineering, any ship and any aircraft can be made to turn in its own length and take up any direction. Every captain should learn some PID control systems and what is meant by Positional, Derivative, Acceleration and in the case of a steady wind blowing why he needs to apply integral control. Any person with logic, reason and rational thinking could do what we saw in this video, but if he had some mathematical background as to comprehend what I described, then he would do it a little faster, but anyone with logic, reason and rational thinking could do what this first officer did using only two shafted engines and two propellers. One can move the ship sideways with only that equipment on board, but knowing how to vector and push and pull in any direction with props and rudders. It is easier with bow thrusters and stern thrusters and main engines working together at the right phase/time/ direction and with the right magnitudes. I would like to see him doing that with the Cutty Sark and the Thermoply and HMS Victory, perhaps the Mary Rose or the Vasa! Good engineering makes Child's play of an Airbus 380 a Boeing 747, the Queen Mary and Queen Victoria. But then when one introduces human factors no amount of good engineers can help as over 60% of aircraft incidents are due to human pilots and in shipping, the Captain of the Concordia could have been a little wiser and more responsible!
Again a great video Tom. Thanks mate!

Very nice, good ship handling to all.
Hey Tom, another great video! I have a question, why did they choose to leave at 1am? Only about weather? Or also for the water depth?
Great question I should of probably mentioned this in the video, partly because of the weather window, Bay of Biscay is bit of a beast but main reason was for the tide time so we could get out.
@@TomJoeSHOW thanks to answer!
Liked and subscribed, what a great job to have!
