My step dad used to race bikes, and has owned dozens in his nearly 40 years of riding. But for the last 10 years, his weapon of choice has been a 2004 SV1000S. He loves it, it's his absolute pride. During covid his gearbox blew 4th gear, and he couldn't get a replacement for it without forking out about £800 for a new engine just to take the gearbox out of it. So he bought a GSXR gearbox from the same year and fitted it. He was surprised to feel the bike have a much better response with the R gearbox, and all he wants on it now are some upside down forks. It's an absolutely beautiful bike and looks more modern than some current gen motorcycles.

SUZUKI HAYABUSA BLUES: A young man (call him Bob) wanted to get a good budget sports car for racing, but a friend recommended that he could find plenty of affordable racing motorcycles that can beat most cars on the road. Bob found a slightly used Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa that was modified for racing (speed governor removed, high-compression pistons, improved porting, hotter cams, lighter weight mods, etc.) that was less than the stock cost of $17,000. Bob bought it, passed his motorcycle license test easily because at low speed, the Hayabusa is rather docile. Its massive 1340cc engine has so much torque that simply letting off the clutch on first gear smoothly propels you forward without incident. On top of that, it carries its weight pretty well. It doesn’t feel like you’re waddling around on a 600-pound, 197 horsepower behemoth. Bob drove around town for the first few days to wisely get acclimated to the bike and he found it very pleasant. Then Bob took the Hayabusa on the freeway to see how fast it could go. There he was gripped by the yellow corkscrew of terror rising up his spine after he pulled back on the throttle and was thrown into a world of speed the likes of which he had never experienced before. When you twist the throttle at any gear, a sudden rush of acceleration overcomes you, similar to how a strong wave just washes you away at the beach. It feels like the ground is being pulled away beneath you. In other words, its power delivery is unlike most other bikes out there. So yeah, as a beginner, you're most likely to be taken off guard by that much grunt, and before you know it you’re going at speeds that could land you in jail, or the morgue. Bob took his 'Busa on a racetrack, but could not shake the horror that that 220 mph modified widow-maker was going to kill him, so he sold it. Bob wanted to live. Who could blame him?

Here in Oz, you can get a 2005 BMW K1200S with just 26,000 miles on the clock for the equivalent of $5200USD. That's a 10.2 second quater mile, 2.8 second 0-60 big sports tourer with the tech of many current bikes. The better looking K1200R naked bike has aged beautifully and can be had even cheaper.

omg many cheap motorcycles are quicker than a supercar. Late 90s and early 2000s is the peak of fast bikes, when it comes to old school. You have no more than 3000USD? That's more than enough for a Fireblade (the 954cc engine)
No fancy screens, no computers, (excluding of course ECM and ECU which is a form of a computer) and pure 150hp that are pretty darn quick.

The bikes you listed are very well thought out and absolutely rip. I wasn't sure if you were just going with bikes in general, nakeds, cruisers or just a random mix. The reason I mention this is because a lot of the bikes on your list are pretty quick but can't handle canyon carving. Most of the nakeds along with the sports handle as well as they go fast. You won't be laying over 45 degrees on a V-Max or Diablo. I think it would be interesting to see you break this into categories. Cruisers, Nakeds, Sports and build lists off each type...

Granted, the hottest sportbike I've ever ridden was a GSXR 750, and ANY bike is fast to me since my bikes are a couple TW200s and a CRF300L Rally (my 'highway friendly' bike). Whatever the really hot Buell 1100-something was, it was insane, too. The one I rode was HEAVILY modified and felt/looked like a naked sport bike (it was an acquaintances' bike, I don't know much about Buells). Harleys do FEEL fast, that's totally true, they just aren't usually.

I'd take a 98' Zx9r over the RF900 any day ,super cheap on the used market too. the 94' Red and silver zx9r color scheme was my favorite 90s color scheme

Had an RF9. Was rapid but had weird unreliability issues like carb icing. Have a 2016 MT09 ABS now. It’s a bit…mental. Been riding bikes since 1985 and that bugger still catches me out sometimes🤪

Btw Yam I always see you use foot-pounds for torque when this is incorrect. Ft-Ib is a unit of measure for a scalar quantity whereas torque is a vector quantity. Ib-ft is a unit for the vector quantity of torque

Wrong information on the buell 1125R. U said oil in the swingarm that is false that was on the Buell XB series of bikes. The 1125R had oil in its crank case like most typical liquid cooled sportbike engines. And they where 2008 to 2010 model years.
