    Here are 5 of my favorite Big Ideas from "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. Hope you enjoy!
    James Clear has a super-popular website (jamesclear.com). Millions of people visit it every month and hundreds of thousands subscribe to his email newsletter. After reading this book, I can see why. He’s a great writer and distills the essence of habit formation into, well, its fundamental components-the “atomic” structure if you will-while showing us how those TINY little incremental improvements add up to MIGHTY results. I rarely say a book is a must-read but this one’s as close as it gets. Big Ideas we explore include: The math behind 1% gains compounding over a year (and a decade!), navigating the Plateau of Latent Potential (ever given up on a habit? Take note!), the importance (and etymology) of our Identity (get this: it literally means 'repeated being ness'), The 4 Laws of Behavior Change (remember: cue + craving + response + reward and... make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, make it satisfying), and the Sorites Paradox (can a single habit change your life?).

    Habits that have a high rate of return in life:
    - sleep 8+ hours each day
    - lift weights 3x week
    - go for a walk each day
    - save at least 10 percent of your income
    - read every day
    - drink more water and less of everything else
    - leave your phone in another room while you work

    The same can be said about backsliding ever so slightly. Before you know it, your at the bottom again if your not careful. Plus the momentum in any direction builds and compounds. This looks like a great book.

    This channel is fantastic!. My critique is towards these books that say "Become better 1% per day", but the main problem is that is virtually impossible to get better 1% each day. It is more like big plateau periods, and you have to plan how to jump to the next plateau.

    • @raymeester7883
      @raymeester7883 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true.

    • @agustinruizmoreno524
      @agustinruizmoreno524 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The plateau just works till you make the habit, so it's nonsense to talk about more than just one. Once the habit is strong enough it can support itself through practice.

    • @mandyrarsh7137
      @mandyrarsh7137 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that 1 percent is a lot for one day but how about a week or even a month that's not a lot to do most of us know few things that can get us 1 percent better in a month... i disagree on your jumping idea...i still think it's more of a gradual thing that accumulate over time...jumping is good but also risky-ish.

  • @DrBoFitCare

    Small correction that I think is pretty important - it’s 37% improvement over a year not 37 times or X improvement
    Pretty big difference in meaning

    Atomic Habits is definitely an A+ book.I really like how mentions that your "environment" matters more to your success than "motivation." So he gives you a realistic framework to work with. Once you understand the process of Atomic Habits its easy. But like the ICE Cube Analogy in his book it takes time. But it does not take forever. Most goals can be achieved within 3 -5 years. I expanded his math equation below to illustrate my point. Between years 3-5 it just explodes of the chart. Hope this helps.
    1.01^365 = 37.78
    1.01^730 = 1427.59
    1.01^1095 = 53939.17
    1.01^1460 = 2,038,007.24
    1.01^1825 = 77,002,912.75

    Great book but getting 1% better in a day is much more than it sounds. It's easy to get 1% better at something you've just started but to get 1% better as a person? Like overall? Not so easy. Then as you get better it's harder and harder to get that 1% increase. Think how hard it is for a 100m sprinter to get "1% better" that's a lifetime of work. So yeah it doesn't compound in that way.
    The principle is good to think about though because there is definitely some amount of compounding effect to improvement but it's not as neat as it sounds.

    Just finished this book. It was decent. I really hate cliches and trends though. Saying things like “compounding 1%” is absolutely ridiculous and childish. Numbers are compounded, not action. It literally makes zero sense. The author did a great job laying out the topic, I’m glad I read it I just wish people were mature enough to recognize how childish it is to come up with catch phrases like compounding your action. It really ruins his credibility. A quick look around the web and you can see multiple people making this claim. I understand the desperation to come up with new material but talking like that is hipster talk, in the real world that’s just not the case.

    How do you turn something subjective into a percent 🤔I’m not sure all that math makes any sense except to make you feel hope and satisfy people who think they can make sense out of life with math equations. I’m not trying to pop anyone’s balloon and I think the overall point of using that percentile math is to motivate you but I see an awful lot of misplaced math in life equations in these self help videos. In my experience, life never fits into those equations. If it helps you, awesome!

    So if i save a penny a day for 100 years and then my child save a penny for a 100 years and my grandchild saves...blah, blah, blah. Lets extrapolate miniscule amounts to infinity for dramatic effect.
    Effect.

      Nope. You'd need to double that penny, Boss! ;)
