Thats something that's always caused me a lot of stress when practicing. When fatigued, tired and stressed you aren't always able to think straight and mistakes are so unbelievably easy to make. Have had many a restless nights overthinking cases in which the patient died and thinking there was something I missed or should have done differently that would come back and bite me.

These videos are awesome. So full of humanity and a true understanding of how hard treating real patients is, specially as an inexperienced doctor.
I don’t excuse the doctor’s lack of agency but I can empathize with her fears at that moment.

@ that's the kind of thing you can only say when you've either never made a mistake, or never been in that situation

I watched this video for the 1st time about 10 months ago and honestly this story still pops into my head sometimes.... so human, so relatable and so scary at the same time. Feel sorry for Dr. Hom!

This series potrays such an accurate picture of what happens in hospitals on a day to day basis.....let's face it as interns and junior residents we have all gone through this phase in our lives.....my area of discomfort was ER.....u have to act quickly and make decisions on the spot that can save a pt...u literally have seconds to react. Thankfully our hospital had a very capable ER team that guided me during those early days of my career well, but i recall a number of times when i completely froze up. I feel bad for the doctor coz a lawsuit early in your career can be devastating but ya always call for backup the moment u see things going downhill.

If ever there were an example of a time for a hospitalist to "bother" a specialist with a phone call...

Moral: Know your limitations and don't play superdoc if you don't want your patients dead!

What if she was accidentally given the blood thinning medications, which were meant to be given to the patients with Cardiac Problems ?

Doubtful if she was in the ICU for post-op bleeding, they would have stopped her blood thinners
