They need to now do Coal Mining history in schools for the generation who never knew and seen a coal mine as Coal Mining will live for ever in are memories who remember Coaling mining in the UK
I worked in Ayrshire I worked in Killoch and Barony and finished with the coal board in Bilston Glen. I travelled I hour 40 mins to get to the face. We were salvaging 5 ton Gullich and Dobson chokes to go to Castlebridge.
I wish our pit was still open manvers main. I miss all the lads and the comradeship we had .you don't get that now too many backstabbing bastards and creeps.
My aim is to have a Coal Mining Exhibition in Leicestershire and go out and teach children around the county about Coal Mining in Leicestershire this is so amazing to watch thank you. I shall share on our facebook group I do hope that is OK?
@@thesedreamsarefree thank you. We hope to have many different projects that we can bring to Leicestershire on Coal Mining. We hope to do Mobile Exhibitions around Leicestershire to teach children of all ages about the mining communities and what mining was.
When I left university in 1968 with a mining degree, my first 6 months was spent shovelling coal on a 'hand filled' face, ie the old cyclical system shown here. A great video.
@Dr Wolfgang Chausser Yes, but it was good someone who would be in a position of authority in the industry should spend some time doing what the workforce did day in day out. the old time managers worked their way up from there.
No pick an shovel!wot a load of bollox!we had advanced road headings with what we called the stables in South Wales!worked on the pick an shovel all day there!an all the hard work was done with the shovel after firing on the tail end too!still,a great film!😀👍
We were far to deep for dinosaur bones to be found, now trees yes that's what coal is basically made off. I found lots of perfectly preserved fern leaves after breaking up rocks sadly I never saved any . Like you say we just tossed them on a conveyor belt.
Unless you have experienced this, you can't imagine the noise, dust, smell and atmosphere on a coal face.
So true mate!

That's good that the kids learn the history of mining which really made Britain what it was.

Was thinking the same thing Mark
great film
I wonder how many dinosaur bones/fragments of ancient trees, etc, were found by UK miners, only for them to be dumped onto the nearest conveyor belt?

Don't know why, but there were loads of fern fossils. Found them almost daily.
I worked at Ashington Colliery. When doing my above ground training I saw cupboards full of training films laying about. Those films were not saved.
I remember a box in the safety office full of vinyl records, Do it the safty way, by Max Bygrave, should have kept one. B
History now.. very sad.
