You have to basically disassemble the entire unit to reach the HDD! You know they designed it like that on purpose to discourage people from doing this.
@@SetssonIVI You must be joking fanboy. 2011-2014 Dell and Lenovo Mini-PCs are just as powerful but actually meant to be upgradable by the end-user using mosty clip on and a simple philips head. You definitely do not need a tutorial to do it. I have to watch this nonsense because favours suck.
no way i could have done it without you! maybe tear it apart, but never correctly and certainly not get it reassembled! Now to see if it'll update pre-boot mode! Thank You!
Thanks for the video. Got mine upgraded following this video! Not too difficult just took my time and watched video several times. I suggest a USB boot drive and not the internet thing which did not work for me. P.S. also found out slightly later this Model can also take a NVMe SSD drive (wow!) which is even faster. I added this as well. Now I have two 1TB drives and the boot drive is on the NVMe for even faster boot times.
Only Apple could make this task so complex (probably on purpose), I remember updating the same style HD in my Playstation 3 to SSD, just one screw and it pops out the front, replaced in 30 seconds.
Hi there! I really like your videos ... Very well edited and done. Explanation 100% clear - Is there by any chance a video about upgrading the DDR3 memory of this very same model? (MacMini 2014?)
The 2014 Mac Minis do not have upgradeable RAM, there might be a way to do it but you’d need a PHD in electrical engineering to upgrade it since it’s integrated into the logic board lmao. Afaik the last Mac Mini with upgradeable ram sticks was the 2012 model.
Real. They know that upgrading the HDD/SSD is the first thing people will want to do and they bury it in a way that makes people afraid to ruin the board.
That oblong piece of tape that you removed and did not replace is used to ensure a good connection between the drive and the adaptor. It is more important to use on a HDD due to vibration but can prevent problems with an SSD.
@@alexanderthedecent6778 it's just the remote connector. I just put back together without it and the mac mini works just fine. Now to figure out what I want to do with it.

nothing is impossible,
you can if you want !
i bought this and i really regret it.fuck apple.not touching any of their product anymore
You can still do it thought. There's a reason why 2014 mac mini's are still viable while any windows compute has been complete obsoleted

If you install the m.2 ssd its way way easier. I also upgraded the internal hard drive as well with an hdd.
June 2024, this video helps me to upgrade SSD of my Mac mini 2014. Thank you!
July for me..... Now to get a NVMe adapter
Is the machine still working fine in 2024? should i buy?

Thx, but what is about the software? Did we need to copy, or clon the new ssd from old hdd with usb for Mac os?

Very good video. I'm not sure I would tackle the upgrade myself but the video was very good.
There's one of these sitting in a local tech shiop that I'm conidering picking up. Should make a decent backup server once I do this.

Did you pre-format SSD? How did you proceed with MacOS?
turn on while pressing command + R keys
and get into internet recovery
I yanked the piece at 2:27 too hard and it came off with not only the wire part but the bottom too. Any suggestions? Can this be super glued back?
i need to know too
I broke the connection too. It's very weak and the video shows him doing it too fast.
Jeez grasshoppers. Patience!! Slow the video down to 0.25 if needed.
Amazing. That connection was, for me as well, a near disaster.
And, I’m not sure that there is a safe way to remove it.

you use time machine ( back up on external HD )
Doesn’t the SSD need to be cloned before installing it?
You can just do a time machine and reinstall after from that. I tink its the safety solution.
