  • What ever happens to those cars after you see them on the show floor at SEMA? Well they get auctioned off to used car dealers and people can just buy them! That's what happened here, and so we drive the most SEMA-ish car we've ever driven on the show, for better or worse.

    "I'm not looking to add too much power, I'm trying to learn how to drive" That's one of the smartest things I've heard someone say on any of these one takes. Props to this guy, whether you like the car or not, he's got a great attitude.

    Love how humble this guy is - really a good guy from the sound of it. He knows EXACTLY what his car is. He doesn't bump it up like it's some track monster, and most importantly, he's well aware that the car's abilities are likely over his head and the most important aspect is to learn how to drive. A good driver > a good car 9 times out of 10.
    I'm not into Hyundais, but this guy is awesome and the car looks pretty good. Def. got some F&F going on, haha. People should take notes on this guy.

    Just a stage 1 tune for like 600 bucks and he could be putting down 240 whp and 270+ foot pounds to the ground. In a car that weights 2800 pounds it would be a lot more fun.

      +Sergio Martinez i talked to the guy at tork motorsports about their tune and he says they limit the 2013's to 230 wheel and they are plenty happy. Their shop veloster is a 2013. Since I'm going to be building a 1jz sc300 anyways a 2800 pound daily putting 230 to the ground is plenty for me. Especially 270 foot pounds. FUN!

    Matt did a great job on a fair assessment of an interesting car. I don't get why people trash other people's cars. Everyone has different levels of interests in cars and what they want from their cars. When there's a passion for driving and owning a car, no matter what, it's good for everyone in the hobby. A wide market base means a strong list of vendors pushing out all the fantastic parts we have available to us, if you want to go fast or not. We're living in a virtual renaissance of automobiles and it is specifically because of the variety and volume of interest. To claim some legitimacy issue on even one part of of that market is a disservice to the entire ecosystem of car enthusiasts. I own an Edsel and I own a 2015 Mustang GT. I get love, hate, and laughs for both, and just because one is fast and the other is a laughing stock (you choose which is which) it does nothing to change the joy I get in going to car meets and meeting other people enjoying cars. Love what you brung and respect that everyone else did to.

    Seems like a nice guy, car looks cool from the outside but possibly feels like jumping in too deep. A cheap Miata would have probably been a better choice to learn for price. I get the impression these SEMA car builds draw a lot of attention, but I'm also thinking that SEMA has a lot a cars that look great, but really suck on the road. Then again, the car seems to have all the right parts on it. Its simply taking it that next step and getting it all working together. I think Matt is right about getting all the stuff you have on the car tuned from suspension to the ECU.
    As for some advice, you might be able to detune your power steering to make the steering more heavy, it could possibly provide more feel. With the weird rev hanging, I don't think its a tune. It will be something blocked or needs cleaning. A common problem on my car requires that I clean a specific solenoid every year or so or it will cause rev hang and even rev limiting. Its really strange, I recommend diving into the forums and I'm pretty confident you will find the solution.

    @superjario18 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    TheSmokingTire - Its a very common problem with stock Veloster Turbos. A tune fixes that and gives you that extra 1k revs you want as well. It also opens up min of 40 extra wheel hp.

      It hung? Maybe it's a Hyundai thing? I do know lots of people complain about the hang and my 2016 rspec has a hint of it. But a lot of people fix it with tunes. Maybe it's based on if the tuner has a focus on that or not? No clue... Happy driving though!

    If the owner is reading comments: A proper street tune will actually make your car more reliable and less prone to breaking something. Having Bolt ons on a turbo car without the proper tune for them can seriously cause problems down the road. Just make sure you get it done by a reputable tuner.

    Oh cool, I read that the tea kettle whistle noise adds at least 50 hp ;^) I can almost guarantee that body kit or the Led light strips on the roof were never wind tunnel tested. That seems to be the source of the whistle. Luckily his exhaust is almost loud enough to cancel out the whistle ;^)

    if I'm not mistaken these cars come with an electronic accelerator pedal, i would look into a gopedal. it would help tune just the feel and reaction of the pedal. My fiat 500 Abarth would hang revs at some points until i installed the gopedal.

    West-end is way more than 200 bucks for corner balancing and a alignment. They fixed a lot on my car and i ended up paying about 450 for an alignment, corner balancing and about 2hours of labor. That's after them cutting me a deal for the last hour of work. Their minimum i believe was 250 for just a quick corner balance without an alignment, which is useless to do. It would be a waste if you had to come back because of not having all your upgrades sorted.

    • @Badger_S197
      @Badger_S197 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Themayseffect for me it was just $250 for corner balancing and alignment without any special deal. They do great work and I love going there.

      you are probably right, i had them do both but they charged me for another 2 hours because i had them change a lot of adjustable settings. Maybe it was 250 for both.

    It's a nice car with sensible modifications. I'm not expecting a big number in horse power. The suspension seems to be on point which is way more than what most enthusiast will do. Before I upgraded the engine in my 92" s13 coupe, I upgraded the entire suspension. What I expect to see next is a few more engine mods and a tune.

    Come on man... you knew what the car was gonna be when you chose to review it. You cant lay into the guy so hard. It is what it is. Obviously the guy liked his car for what it was and your critiques made it awkward. Judge the car fairly in relation to what it is. Sorry its not a Venom GT every time.

    • @TheSmokingTire
      @TheSmokingTire  8 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      +Kevin I wasn't laying into the guy at all. I was perfectly nice to him and appreciative of him sharing the car. I was also honest, and gave him recommendations to improve the car in the future, which is what he was expecting when proactively submitting his car for a review. And besides, if I have to choose between being honest with the 560,000 person audience of this show and making the owner happy by blowing smoke up his ass, I'll take the audience every time.

    • @Themayseffect
      @Themayseffect 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +TheSmokingTire You did seem a little overly disappointing by not having enough power. Its understandable considering how much effort has gone in to modifying just about everything else. But you are on one of the fastest roads in that area, so a lot of cars would seem slow shy of 400hp lol.

      you have to give constructive criticism in any review. if matt wasn't being truthful with him, he might as well just lie to him and tell him it a wonderful car with its current tune. Matt can help this guy by seeing holes in the build and then give his recommendations for improvement.

      +Kevin +TheSmokingTire It's strange as my overriding emotion after watching this video was that Matt really does come across as just the nicest guy. He doesn't look down on the chap for not having the world's most expensive and powerful car, he reviews the chap's car with humour and honesty and he gives the bloke some useful advice about what he'd recommend doing next. These One Take videos really are superb - great variety in machinery but they're reviewed with such great personality by Matt that I just don't get bored of them AT ALL. Keep up the awesome work and people like me will keep watching!

    A tune won't fix the rpm holding. Most of Hyundai's cars do that to assist rev matching into the next gear and smoother take up. Even new i30's do it.

  • @gfg_horseman7159
    @gfg_horseman7159 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Im pretty sure the revs are hanging like that because of the 50/50 bypass he installed (to get the "right noises" as Matt would say). So yes a tune would fix it.
