Hi everyone, just had the same problem and found the cause! It is the guitar input preamp opamp chip that is burnt and produces all this mess. The opamp is: 3Peak TP2582 and it costs like $10NZD for 10 pieces incl. shipping. It is located very close, on the left side of the "GUITAR IN" connector on the mainboard and partly under the DSP daughterboard. You need some good SMD soldering skills to replace it though. I am thinking to also replace this with the good, old and more reliable TL072 (TL072CPWR, TSSOP-8 package). I hope this ends one and for all the frustration for hundreds of Spark 40 users :)
@@tylerjagru I am waiting for TP2582 and TL072 to arrive by post this week and will try. Another alternative would be the also venerable, low noise NE5532 or an OPA2134. Cheers!
@@tylerjagru Just replaced the opamp and the Spark 40 is back to life! Be aware that you might receive fake opamps from Aliexpress that do not work (that's what happened to me). So better order them from main electronic component distributors. After the initial confusion, I measured everything and it became obvious that the new (fake) opamp did not pass any signal. So I did a bit of soldering acrobatics and soldered instead a larger, SOIC-8 OPA2134 opamp (an improved TL072) and it works wonders. No white noises, just pure, clean guitar sound. Cheers!
@@tylerjagru I only have my amp, but the symptoms were exactly as in the video and in other's descriptions. So I would be surprised if it was not the opamp for everyone else as well.
Like Ryan and David, It is the second time that I have the same problem with Spark 40. First time I sent it to the technical service in Poland, they sent me a new one amp and I thought that everything was fixed with the new grounded power unit (The first amp hasn't a grounded power unit). Two weeks later I have the same problem again with the second amp. The problem repeats exactly, a hissy noise with plugged and unplugged guitar. The guitar don't sound amplified anyway. The technical service said this time: "I will keep you posted on the shipping label to return your Spark amp to our local service center FOR REPAIR. The whole repairing process will be done in 10 business days." But my one year guarantee expires in two month. What will be the support next time, out of warranty? Pay for repair it without any faith in this amp? I have two Marshalls (35 and 5 years old), two Fender (30 and 10 years old) and one Peavey (20 years old). I has not any problem with them, plugged in the same grounded outlets. Sorry, but I do not recommend this product. DO NOT BUY THIS AMP!
I'm with u mine worked for a month and I loved it o would have bought more from them but I never got help from cs and they have no reached out to help me I even paid for an extended warranty pretty pissed about it because I did like it when it worked so I will never have anything good to say about this amp or the service I didn't get
Same issue with mine but it worked great for a few months then exact same issue as yours No sound if you plug an instrument in. Hundreds of people have posted this since last year and no response except they are backed up because of the holidays....last years holidays. Great idea they had, they just couldn't deliver anything resembling reliability and much needed customer support.
This is a on going issue with these amps. If you own one it is almost guaranteed to have this issue. I find it strange that positive grid does not address what the issue is.
Hey guys,I have the same problem as well. Worked well for 6 months and suddenly just stopped working. I've done the factory reset and still nothing. Unfortunately it's now out if warranty. Has one been able been able to find a solution? Really spewing it was otherwise an awesome Amp.
Exact same issue, nothing fixes it. I hate this company! They are complete scammers, I would never buy anything from them or any affiliated companies again.
I have the same problem for the 2nd time. They replaced it the first. I like the amp a lot but I can't believe this happened twice on a solid state product.
Exactly the same problem, 8weeks of going back and forward to help chat with same solutions, factory reset, upgrade firmware etc eventually managed to get them to sell me complete control panel complete with knobs and fully assembled circuit board with latest firmware. Just had to connect speakers and bluetooth ariel, now works treat $62 inc postage (£52 in the UK and was posted from Birmingham) The circuit board was version 2 so may last longer than v1. Best buy an amp that has 3 years warranty.
UPDATE: After numerous backwards and forwards Emails with positive grid support over the sudden hissing sound on all channels. And the total lack of sound from the amp except hissing. They have come back with thoughts and prayers, as my amp only 18 months old its out of warranty they can't help me get my $300 amp working. I find positive grids customer service poor and I personally will never by this overpriced crap again. It isn't worth $300 if it only last 18 months! They offered to charge me $60 plus shipping probably another $60 given the weight for them to fix it. They offered no solution for me to change a component or roll back firmware. I'm not waste any further money on this Amp which is now nothing more than a paper weight! I say buyer buyer beware!
It is the third time that I have the same problem, they changed the amplifier for a new one, and after a few days the same, exactly the same problem that you have with your spark 40, they sent it to the technical service in Poland and it seemed that everything was fixed , but no, after a week once again the problem repeats.
Mine has done the same thing except I get absolutely no sound from my guitar when it's plugged in and it just hisses after only 22 months they want me to ship it to them and pay $60. I believe this is an issue with the hardware and I refuse to pay them for something that is a widely known issue. I simply will not purchase or recommend spark products as I find them just a little shady with how they have handled this issue. My Spark Amp is now nothing more than a paper weight which is sad because I really liked it!!
A friend gave me his Spark PG Amp. It worked for a day and then now it produces a constant annoying hissing noise. I updated the firmware. It didn't fix it. It plays TH-cam Videos' and the Play Along seem to work okay. I just can't play any instruments nor the software amps and pedals will work. Any suggestions on a fix? I feel it might have something to do with the Input Jack. Seems like an input signal from a cable or wireless transmitter does nothing for a signal. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Come on! Somebody must have a suggestions or tip on what's causing this hissing sound. Please help us out. This Spark 40 currently is useless. It worked for one day only.

Welcome to the club. Dig on the website deep and you'll find a support email contact. You'll eventually get ahold of someone very familiar with this issue
From what I've seen it's a grounding issue... apparently a lot of the first run of these amps have this problem. Looks like the ungrounded 2-prong power supply should be replaced with an appropriate 19v 3-prong grounded adapter. In the between time, it looks like this USB into a grounded device trick might be a workaround... th-cam.com/video/MZXuqPiA2lk/w-d-xo.html. Let me know, brotha!
Worked for 3 weeks. Hmmmm. Plugged into the same power outlet? If not the same outlet, could be the wiring in the house. I'd try moving it to a different outlet... followed by trying to plug into a grounded power strip then into the wall... followed by the USB to a grounded device... followed by a grounded power supply upgrade. If any of these work, we can eliminate internal problems. But if that doesn't work, especially because it worked and now doesn't, I'd be really suspicious of a faulty solder/connection somewhere in the unit at which time, you got to, as you know, deal with customer service or an amp tech. I'm just dropping stuff you've already probably know and have tried, but just incase, maybe one of these might work. Either way, I hope you figure it out, these sparks rock when they're working right!
@@LifeBeyondZakary yes I did most all of that far as I could tell something just failed in the unit but it does sound to me most like a bad ground wire when a ground wire is eliminated from the circuit no signal will come through it's not just a ground noise as you can see by the video there's nothing but noise even when nothing is plugged in same when something is plugged in there is no signal whatsoever I repaired a tube pedal on my own and found a ground wire came loose at the solder and it made a very similar noise

They sent me a power supply and that fixed the problem. However through the 1/8 output jack it buzzes horribly. I have no way to record with this other than micing the speaker which dprt of defeats the point. I use the bag this came with 100x more than the Amp. A waste of money practically
My amp after applying the firmware update stopped making any sound at all. I have tried many times the procedure of updating but have not been able to get the amp to work at all. All the lights behave as they should do, but no sound. I want a refund. Not happy
I got my amp today and it requested that I update the firmware. I did and it lost all sound. Didn’t even use it before the sound failed. what was the outcome? Who did you contact to rectify the issue?

They sent me a power supply and that fixed the problem. However through the 1/8 output jack it buzzes horribly. I have no way to record with this other than micing the speaker which dprt of defeats the point.
I use the bag this came with 100x more than the Amp. A waste of money practically
Same problem with mine
I’ve given up unfortunately. I just use it to play Spotify and jack in auxiliary. Big time shame.
Guys please i just got thr same problem help, i have no money :( i just got a sire s7 for my birthday and i was so happy for 4 days then it crashed! 😭

Chinese components
It sucks
Same problem here. I bought it 15 months ago. They want to charge me 115USD for a repair. I lost confidence in this amp and Positive Grid as well. 😕
Hi, What was the issue with yours? Just the socket malfunction?
@@piero_777_ the main board. I had to pay 140$CAN to exchange for a refurbished amp.
@@jarrodgill333 raise a ticket via their website. This will generate a ticket number and you get put into a queue. Unfortunately this is the only way to do it with Positive Grid. There is no phone number. It may take a while but they will get to you eventually. In my case, it was another firmware update file they emailed to me, slightly different to the one made public.
@@owendoe4847 Hi, you mean you had the same problem described above and the firmware they sent you fixed it.???? Now their response is they are backed up because of the holidays and others reporting that is the last they heard a year ago. I bought one of the early ones and worked great for awhile and initially customer support very responsive. But that was probably a million defective units ago.
@@wd8440 So sorry to hear about that - dont ever update it for the time being until they revise their customer service system. They are a small startup company and I dont think they have the resources to respond in a timely manner. Im happy with the amp as it is now and wont be applying any future updates
Same but powerlifting works the other 4 don’t only had it or a year and it stoped workin just shy of a year fucked up

Exactly my issue as well. Positive Grid has lost me as a customer forever. To spend $249, then to pay $110 for a service fee, PLUS shipping. Very disappointed in this company and will never recommend them to anyone. Sorry to hear of your problem...you are not alone, unfortunately.
I got the same problem
