They are hitting the note then hitting the macro for all buttons on the trigger so that it makes the holds easier. So if you have a triangle hold and a circle hold back to back, you'd press triangle then trigger to "transfer" the hold, then circle, then the other trigger to "transfer" both holds to that trigger button.
