  • Today we operate some ham radio on a cliff. Running only 5 watts of power on our IC705 and Chameleon MPAS 2.0 in a very compromised location we made two contacts, including one with K8MRD radio! Enjoy the video, it's longer than usual.

I too have the IC 705 w/ the LDG Z100. My antenna is the MFJ LP1984 endfed.
    Nice job!

Great video. Also new to all this and am considering the MPAS 2.0 for my IC-705 - not cheap, but being new, I need something which is proven to work. And beautiful part of Kentucky you’re in.

Yes sir. Highly recommend the MPAS 2.0, If I had to pick one antenna system I’d choose the MPAS. Good luck!

Hi, that's a great location for not being disturbed while operating the radio with a nice view, but I don't think I would have the balls to do it, one slip and its all over!! I have the mpas 2.0 and it works on 14 MHZ especially with the 17 foot telescopic whip, but I think you need some form of counterpoise wire, it will help, also being near to the sea or a lake makes all the difference with getting a signal on its incredible journey!! It is quite a challenge when using low power, but when the propagation is good, it's amazing what you can do!! Enjoy the hobby and 73. Alex M0KVA

If you had a different radiator, you would’ve gotten a response from the GA activator. Shame, because you selected a very nice spot for operation.
I also have the MPAS. It’s not at all efficient, and is best suited for digital or CW. That’s not to imply that it does either well, Imho, yet is too lossy for SSB work, especially in the lower bands.
Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed the scenery and history of the area.

Nice place, with you radio power I prefer a resonan antenna, 7 meters fiberglas pole and Dipole inverted V or End Fed. More power radiated and less money.
Thank you for the history of the place. 😁

I agree, I used to use an inverted v antenna back in the day.

I really like my MPAS 2.0 and IC-705 also. Amazing what you can do with 5 or 10 watts.

Yes, the IC705 and MPAS 2.0 is a great combination, if the IC705 had an internal tuner… I’d say it was perfect.

Awsome job Paul in that compromised location. I would never get out of there alive again. Since I have no more disk. Or one of these frikken Eastern, Western Diamondback and Timber Rattleshnakes get me by my wrinkled ass. But I still try crazy stuff outside at mother nature. All the Honor & Respect is sent straight over to you, young man. And I hope we be able to make a P2P Contact soon that the WX here allws me to go portable again. You doing a great job. 73 de Your Friend Uncle Guenter

Is it just me or is the the path mighty narrow at times? That wide angle lens makes it feel like you are about to fall off the cliff at times. Thanks for the walking tour. 73 Rob/WA9RAD

Did you deploy the counterpoise wire that is attached red knob on the ground spike?
