When I was a kid, my dad Herb used to holler at me about my juvenile behavior and tell me to get on the stick. I never knew what this meant, until later in life, when I realized, this is what a pissed off flight instructor tells a bumbling student, to get on the stick, or in other words, pay more close attention to correctly operate the airplane control stick, to better fly the airplane
Clark Gable got an official exemption to the no facial hair policy of the US Army Air Corps. The US Navy had more liberal facial hair rules when posted aboard ships. This lieutenant and his well-groomed, pencil-thin mustache must have gotten a similar exemption.
I question the authenticity of your statement that there was a no facial hair policy for the US Army Air Corps in WWII. I came across a group photo of WWII generals taken in 1944. Three of them have mustaches, including General Carl A Spaatz who was the commander of Strategic Air Forces in Europe. When I was in the USAF, mustaches were allowed, but not beards, unless you got a special waiver. I assume that the no beard regulation is because a beard would affect the seal of an oxygen mask. Clark Gable made several films without a mustache, including Mutiny On The Bounty.
Wow, I wasn't expecting to learn so much from this. Now I want to learn how to fly a biplane.

Thanks so much.
I remember having to clean those propellers with a bucket of propwash to give them better pull, because thrust wasn't invented until jets appeared. 😉
He explains it so that it sounds simple.
Jesus these things were like flying a tractor. It's a miracle how far we have come.
