    My dad flew Mustang P51Ds during WWII. He used to take me up in a Cessna in the 80s and 90s and do all those Aerobatic maneuvers. I used to love them so much and he did it so easily like it was second nature. I never realised that it was this complex to learn. I remember at one stage we were doing a barrel roll and I started to black out from the G Forces. I then just blacked out and woke up again to see my dad still flying the plane ! I was just astonished and is something Ill never forget.

      +Alfa Won Either your memory is flawed ...or your dad couldn't aerobat for sh1t. A correctly executed "barrel roll" is a +1g manoeuvre throughout. i.e. the same +1g you experience sitting at your PC/MAC. It is one of the easiest and comfortable manoeuvres to fly beyond straight and level. Even a chandelle requires more 'g'.

      @fredsalfa 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Your quite an offensive individual who ever you are. Sorry my dads not around to explain what he was doing but hes passed on now. What ever areobatics he was doing in the cessna weather it be a barrel roll or snap roll or whatever there called I blacked out. So my memory is not flawed. If I blacked out I blacked out. Some respect for our war veterans would go along way as well.

    Those aerobatic maneuvers performed by Fairchild Pt 19 like a loop, during the plane was in inverted flight their engines made a " cough cough "noise, as I remember during the time those planes were in use at my home town flight club, about 50 years ago...

    The reason why allied fighter pilot aces did not get more then 50 aerial victorys/kills was because at 50 the pilot was sent home to train new pilots. That way, while the luftwaffe had a couple of aces with very high kill counts but a lot of extremely bad pilots who did did not achive anything and got shot down on their first mission, on the allied side the average pilot was much better trained and experienced then the average luftwaffe pilot leading to more aerial victorys overall.

  • @lezzman

    • @seanshepherd1543
      @seanshepherd1543 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LMAO you rock dude. I wouldn't have dreamt of doing that in my trainer. The lessons and licensing and everything were so expensive as it was and I was nearly broke anyway, but wanted . . . no NEEDED that license lol. But it would be SO much fun doing this stuff in *any* plane (well, any capably built plane). :)

    • @nickr5658
      @nickr5658 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most trainers are not rated for aerobatics. A high time pilot once told me that turbulence will put more stress on an airframe than most aerobatic maneuvers. If you have a G meter look at it after your flights. It’s pretty interesting how even what seems like light turbulence can put 2 G’s on the airplane. I’m not sure what you pull in an aileron roll or a loop but it can’t be much. Obviously don’t try it unless the airplane is certified for aerobatics, you don’t want to be a test pilot!

    • @mikearakelian6368
      @mikearakelian6368 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not do these in a Cherokee dummy...not certified; perhaps a citabria 180 hp...

    As horrendous as it might look for some, this war put a whole new spin (many spins, turns, etc.) in aviation skills and brought up some of the biggest lessons for future aviators.

  • @bigblue6917

    The commentary mentions that the British Spitfire pilot did not know his aerobatics, and not acrobatics, as well as the German pilot. It's not that British pilots could not good at aerobatics, it is that they did not have time to learn. Often they arrived at their squadrons with as little as ten to twelve flying hours during training. Later, after the Battle of Britain they had more time to train.
    The Germans, on the other hand, had been flying in Spain during the Spanish Civil War.

    • @hillbilly4christ638
      @hillbilly4christ638 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Germans had a training program that began early and continued up to the war. Funny how the USA was training pilots before the war in different programs. It is almost like they knew we were going to war soon.

      You've got pilots confused with mechanics. You're also forgetting that the first jet aircraft flew 4 years before this film was made.

    • @theblytonian3906
      @theblytonian3906 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Chris Nichols Like so much narrated documentary/instructional/movie/newsreel footage, the visual content doesn't match the voiceover. The purpose of theat commentary was to make the point. I didn't perceive it as 'dissing' the Brits. The narrator's point by association was "you too can be shot down if you don't know your stuff as well as your opponent" 'evidenced' by accompanying visual anecdotal reinforcement. If you failed to pick up on that as a member of this film's originally intended target demographic, you likely would have been a victim .....or washed out to become a ball turret or tail air gunner.o.O

    • @theblytonian3906
      @theblytonian3906 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Martin Giurov Bf 109 not Me 109, and it had a Daimler Benz (DB) liquid cooled inline engine not a BMW. With the exception of the early pre war production through early suffix Ds, DBs of varying sub revisons e.g. 601, 605 et al were installed in all models from E through K throughout the duration of the war. The Fw 190A series were BMW air cooled radial engined.

      The Blytonian The Bf/Me argument can go both was as there is documentation to support both prefixes for that aircraft

    • @hc7101-f3g
      @hc7101-f3g 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theblytonian3906 it's actually messerchmit bf 109. So the correct term is Me 109. Historically proven that none of the soldiers, axis and allies, called it the BF 109.

    • @theblytonian3906
      @theblytonian3906 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @John Beauvais I 'ken yer argument, but the reality is, its official designation from the time it was conceived until well into production and initial years of service through C, D & E models was Bf 109. There is evidence that later in the war, a *few* documents errantly referred to the F G & K as the Me. If one wants to argue semantics, by convention and commonly adopted in use at the time and historically save the done nothing academic libtard left and know it all snowflake gen, any type which flew prior to Willy gaining controlling interest in Bayerische Flugzeugwerke retained the Bf prefix in the same way we'd call a Jaguar a Jaguar not a BMW nor a Renault a Nissan simply because ownership of the marque changed. e.g. Bf 109, Bf 110. OTOH, New designs flown introduced post aforementioned change were assigned the Me prefix. e.g. Me 210, Me 410, Me 262. We all know what people are referring to with either prefix of the 109, but the prefix Bf is correct.

    I believe the slow roll is now called the lag roll? I should point out, too, that the original Immelman was not a vertical pull into an inverted position, but a 45 degree climb ending with a rudder over into a dive in the opposite direction.

We need another kind of flight control other than the standard stick, rudder , aileron. this flight control system is 100 years old.
