    It’s funny how the running community is so ignorant to the fact that he is on steroids. They think you can realistically go from what he was to what he is now naturally in his late 30s in a matter of a few years.

      I did a very similar transformation in my mid thirties. Went from 62kg soaking wet runner to 86kg jacked strength and conditioning. I was 34. Two years later different person. Most people think I juiced or am juicing. I simply stopped running long distance+mostly vegetarian and started eating high fat, high protein and lifting weights. Really that's it.

      @@notundermywatch3163 did your voice get noticeably deeper as well? Face look completely different? Just curious because eating a calorie surplus and strength training will improve hormones naturally allowing you the gain muscle but there’s a genetic limit. What are the odds Ryan is genetically predisposed to achieve top world level vo2 max but also gain more muscle mass in the gym then the average guy? It’s the opposite end of the spectrum.

      @@Wasatchwatts I don't think my voice pitch changed but my face did for sure. When you gain mass your face inevitably changes and my jawline changed, I have more tissue/fat in the face in general and obviously also my neck became thicker. I just renewed my ID card and I compared the new photo to the previous ID photo taken five years prior and it looks like two different people.

      @@Wasatchwatts We can't exclude the possibility that he has or is using chemical enhancement but one thing that needs to be mentioned is that human body is easy to specialize for running. It is an easy adaptation for the human body, just run long and often enough and virtually anyone can acquire the lightest body their genetics can allow. The body will dump any weight it doesn't juge necessary to carry the body at that pace for that distance. Elite marathon runners have a predisposed morphology for that effort, light skeletal system, thin muscles, proportionally big lungs,high red blood cell count etc. But leave those naturally elite freaks and everyone else doing long distance running is unhealthy. In some cases very unhealthy. Unfortunately most people can't associate possessing high aerobic endurance with unhealthiness but most hobby long distance runners at the high level have crashed hormonal systems, like I did on top of being a quasi vegetarian which didn't help that state much. It's an unhealthy and overrated physical adaptation.

      Although I wouldn't be surprised if he is/was on steroids, overtrained undernourished runners can often gain weight and muscle pretty quickly once they stop running and only eat and lift weights. To me he doesn't look like someone who take steroids though. He just looks like someone who quit running and eats alot and lift weights instead.

    Ryan gave him all the tips to gain muscle except the importance of blasting Testosterone into your glute once a week. Sounds the same as any pro on gear, “I just train harder then you”. Don’t believe it look up a video older then 2016, voice got way deeper after he retired. Odd

    Runners can't get buffed and jacked unless they stop running. That's why Ryan said "I run as little as possible".

      @@Ryan1985vsup David Goggins is a former 290lb powerlifter. He's already a natural mesomorph and heavily-muscled. I'm a 6'1" weightlifter and when my body fat is really low I'm still 190lbs, which is way too big to be anything but a frequently-injured, slow runner.

      Cam Hanes hangs around and does videos with open steroid users/advocates like Joe Rogan. He brags about gaining 25 pounds of muscle in just a few months despite running 140 miles a week. He bench presses 225 x 15 at a body weight of 170 pounds. Marathon and Ultra runners are notoriously weak and have withered muscle mass in their upper bodies. Ryan Hall had to stop running to gain any muscle mass. The two activities are 100% incompatible. Men anywhere near 50 years old have much lower testosterone and HGH than 24 year-olds who also can't gain 25 pounds of muscle naturally in a few months. I'm a 250-pound natural weightlifter for 38 years and I can only bench press 225 x 15 on a good day. He's definitely on PEDs unless he's some sort of 50-something genetic freak of nature and is nothing like his drug-using associates (HIGHLY unlikely). arwwww.wideopenspaces.com/cam-hanes-admits-used-steroids/

      @@joelouden6592 Not doubting the peds and steroids, but Cam is fairly physically gifted in the cardio dept. When he was much smaller and younger, I think he ran 2:50 at Boston. That's a really good time for a 40+ y.o. But, yeah, steroids will help put on a lot of body mass and strength. Doing 225 x 15 at 170 lbs and at 50+ y.o. is really strong. As an aside, I was up to 205 lbs x 10 at 165 lbs at 45 y.o. and I was definitely clean. I don't really lift a lot too -- just an hour a week. But, I get injured a lot nowadays. I think 225 lbs x 15 is doable at 50+, but you're either a genetic freak with strong tendons and ligaments or using steroids.

    • @joelouden6592
      @joelouden6592 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deele7991 I've never taken steroids, I'm 54, and I can do multiple sets of 225 x 15. But I'm also 250 pounds, have a high muscle mass, and I can't run more than 2 miles at 6 mph. If I ran even just 30 miles a week my strength would drop substantially.

    Bulking like Ryan is not worth it for most runners unless they have metobolic issues where gaining muscle weight is better for their overall health. Most runners I've seen just look horrible when they try to bulk up and get body dysmorphia and they become depressed that they lost the enjoyment of being able to run.

    First, you don't need to lift nearly that much to be buffed , jacked, and strong. I see so much guys in the gym like Ryan Hall all the time, and they look the same year in and year out. Second, no matter what anyone says, running and BODYBUILDING are going to be counterproductive. Weight lifting or strength training to a certain degree may help you become a slightly stronger runner. You'll see videos of elite runners doing "weight lifting", and it's always just high rep/super low weights. It just seems like they're doing band exercises rather than lift weights. If you want to be a faster runner, just run, watch your weight, and watch your nutrition. If you want to be a big bodybuilder, do light cardio here and there, do more heavier lifting, and watch your nutrition. However, you can't become a big bodybuilder and faster runner at the same time. One of the two will start to suffer.
