I think there is a good rule of thumb that us amateurs should follow: If someone is giving you unique "advice" that has never been preached by any pro, and they are nowhere near pro level themselves, IGNORE IT! Also, just because someone is a qualified WPBSA coach, that doesn't necessarily mean they have a clue how to make you a better player. Take it from me, I've been arguing with a level 2 qualified snooker coach on Facebook who says we should ignore Michael because he's not at our level! 😂😂
I found videoing myself taking shots did help as I could see some of my mistakes , also after 50 years of playing any tips on us older guys getting down on the table better , artritis is a bitch 😂
There’s a video somewhere on the internet where Ronnie talks about ‘the squeeze’ and how he uses it to promote better solid striking and more spin. If you could find the footage and edit it into your video it would be priceless.
Great as always matey! That’s some shocking advice to be giving people when they’re paying you money isn’t it….lay on the floor and throw your cue….thats £50 please! Genuine question….what are you thoughts on where to look at strike?…..I’ve recently started looking at cue ball at strike and I seem to cue more consistently, but I’ve been told by everyone that object ball is the place to look. Thanks and have a great time on tour next year!
That squeeze is a true thing. I have a problem with it myself when I need to play power shot (usually power screwshot). I can even miscue if I squeeze it too much. There are players who can squeeze the cue and they are still perfectly on line with their cue or they squeeze it after the contact point, but I believe most players (especially learning amateurs) need to play with a soft hand even if it seems impossible at first to generate much power on slow tables. Like 99% of the shots can be played with much less power than most people think. And once player learns (can feel) how the cue is moving in a straight line, he can try to put more power (and squeeze) into shots without getting his cue off, but that is a hard part 🙂
I always find that when I play a shot aiming center or below on the Cue ball the shot goes straight 100% of the time as soon as i start striking the top of the cue ball the white is moving off left
I've never been a fan of the long pause, but some people go on about it, as if you can't hit the ball without a long pause. Then I watch so many top players that have almost no pause. I thought Stephen Hendry was better before he had the long pause.
Another enjoyable video, Michael. Hope you don't mind me saying but I think another camera for close-ups of the balls, shots etc on the table would really help to get across some of your points and explanations.
Where do you stand on the old Kyren Wilson ironing board technique? I think he was using it just to keep his arm warm at the Norn Irns one year due to lack of practice tables...
I think most of these tips began as cues that have now become the aim. Like following through. It probably began as a cue because it makes where you strike the white more consistent. But has now evolved to the point where people are giving advice on how to follow through etc until it devolves into nonsense like this.
I remember a very good golfer once telling me that he always plays for a draw or a fade, never a straight ball, that way you kind of know which way its going. I wonder if they meant if you play with a little bit of left or right, you always know where you'll miss? Maybe? Not that I agree with it AT ALL.
@@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching is it cuz the ball might run out of juice and turned half way? cuz i hear lots of pool player keep saying always putting spin on the ball
I’ve never heard the throwing of the cue advice but I may get what they mean. The advice could be given to stop someone with a tendency to snatch at the shot 🤷🏻♂️
I always had a long bridge and everyone kept telling me shorten up shorten up now Id had a few 100s etc and was tweaking the game as you do and had a lesson and a coach told me to do that so i shotened up and i tried for months but just could hardly pot a ball and my game went to pot or not as the case was ....Someone questioned luka brecell on his technique and his long bridge and he said he was the same and could not pot a ball with a short bridge and he aint bad as mike might say. I think lots of players have quirks in their game but its about doing the same stuff consistently more than anything ...my game is none existent now as there is literally nowhere to play. Might sell my cue
No. The advice was given to someone to avoid topspin because it deflects more. I’m saying its bad advice because moving the white forward/backward is part of the game and ironically the white deflects more with below centre striking. It’s bizarre advice all round. 🤣

was in one of his old masterclass videos

Can you imagine Ronnie on the floor of his club throwing his cue up and down the carpet 😂 that really made me laugh

So funny Mike watching you diss the garbage. Love this channel!
no wonder you are easily back on the tour getting so much free amazing advice
Hugely entertaining vid. I would watch these even I didn't play snooker!
I love the comedy you incorporate in your content 😂👏

All of these points sound like the easiest things to misunderstand if you aren’t really paying attention except for laying on the floor 😂
The last one was Nic Barrow 😂
Not a bad coach though generally speaking. His content is quite good and correct.

No. 3 was a laugh... if anything it feels like I am throwing my cue when my game goes up the creek 😂

Yes dont lie down and throw the cue as it will produce a FLOOR in your action 🙂
So midlands, I love it! What a guy.
i don't get the first one, r u saying always spin it or never spin it?
The bad advice is to make sure the cue ball is spinning/skidding.
I say you want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Hilarious
Paying £75.00 for two ping pong balls has got to be the biggest piss take I’ve seen .
or over a hundred for a cheese board with a line on it
Here I am not even know what "or it'll roll off" means.. ? Doesn't it always roll? Roll off of what exactly?
Better to coach your way rather than spend your time taking the piss. .
# sometimes more than a trace..
DAN AM Airways 😀
I think that coach was a bit perverted
Where’s the missus?
Want an answer mate, not a heart!
They sound amazingly awful 😂😂
sorry you've lost me, at 3.20 you said try using bottom because top deflects more then at around 5 min something you've said the complete opposite
No.

He was talkjng in an ironic manner. Good shot, anyway...
