Another great episode. Those insects are annoying eh? I am surprised you have not come across any snakes yet especially on those bush hiking trails. Anyway the road up out of Queenstown is great and even better on a bike. I look forward to the Port Arthur experience as my GGG Grandfather was a resident of that place for a while. Tell Nigel he will see Tassie devils but it will not be cheap. The caravan park at Huonville is the best spot and free to see them being fed. Hobart is amazing and a look around Cascades Female Factory a must. My GGG Grandmother was a resident there ( she married my Port Arthur GGG Grandfather). Gotta love convicts in the family. Salamanca Place is worth a wander and if you feel hungry a meal at the Ball and Chain near Kelly's Steps or Irish Murphy's pub are worth a visit. I am going back next year on the bike ( again ) and you have given me some options on places to see. Cheers and safe travels.
Cheers Bob, glad you enjoyed it. Look out for Port Arthur episode in two weeks time. We did see quite a few snakes on the road (mostly dead) and only one on a trail. Cradle Mountain from memory. It was only a baby though about 30cm long. Thank you for following our journey
If you're still looking for platypus you're just about guaranteed to see one at the mole creek caravan park! Its a small campground by a creek where they are seen most afternoons
Thanks for the suggestion - we did The Needles walk a few days ago (mid October) - it’s more of a climb ! So worth it for the magnificent views! Enjoyed camping 🚐 at Ted’s beach for 2 nights (the second night we had it all to ourselves 🤩) Although the water level in the lake was higher (Spring) so the beach area was too narrow to drive on to 🚐 Still a stunning spot!
@@nigelandsueadventures Sure did. What an impressive engineering structure! Walked along the dam wall. This part of Tasmania is stunning, and feels pretty remote. Few people around this time of year 😊
Magnificent state to visit, you certainly picked a nice day for your hike. The weather can change so quickly in that region, sometimes without notice. I'm glad you are taking your time to see all the beautiful sights it is well worth it. Thanks for sharing your travels. Cheers Michael
Incredibly stunning scenery in a truly beautiful part of the world. Well done, Nigel and Sue. It's was such a valiant effort, especially since you both were not 100% not well, so very rewarding, you two just keep pushing boundaries to give us something special, each time! Thank you 😊
Hi guys that was amazing I had no idea of the diversity in the Tasmanian wilderness. The clarity of your videos is by the best of all the vaning / caravaning TH-cam shows . Thank you
Great video guys. Glad you are liking Tasmania. The bird your saw at Lake King William was a Black Currawong which is endemic to Tasmania, watch them as they can be thieves, they can open zips on back packs and take whatever they can carry. Well known for doing this on the Cradle Mountain trail.
I haven't been to Tasmania and the only place I have seen platypus was in the Tablelands outside Cairns. There are alot of lovely Christmas Bells near the summit as well as other flowers. Congratulations on making it to the top and taking me along with you and showing the magnificent views, they are just amazing. I walked the Routeburn Track in NZ years ago with a full backpack and my knees had the Elvis Presley shakes then, I can't imagine what they would be like that climb now! Your photography is amazing, thank you.
Thanks so much Glenda! We met a guy who was photographing the flowers up there, he was looking for a purple star. We didn’t see it there but saw one on another hike - only one in the entire trip! Glad you enjoyed seeing this through our eyes.

It's so good! We really prefer the quieter hikes (some of them in Tassie are SO busy) and more off the beaten track. This one ticked all the boxes. AND it was a great workout. Thanks for watching!
Love Teds beach, I got amazing Aurora’s in 2019. Well done doing the needles climb, I didn’t do that. Love your content. Glad you’re on the mend Nigel.
I think that’s always the way when you live somewhere you have all the time, so you kind of put off exploring. When we visit with limited time, we want to see as much as we can! We loved Tassie. Thanks so much for watching
The bird is a black Jay, they steal food and anything bright and shiny, not protected unless in a park or reserve. Proper name is a black currowong, Tasmanian only, the version you have on the mainland is the pied currowong and lacks the white tail slash.
Oh we loved the East Coast too! Stick around Jack, we’ve got lots of Tassie videos to come! We were disappointed to miss the railway, did you take a video along there?
@@nigelandsueadventures I have been making videos for a few years now and started posting them to TH-cam almost 2 years ago, I did a a video on our west coast trip as well.
As usual, great vid! Living vicariously isn’t thar bad. Much easier than walking those peaks. I must say I was almost exhausted when you guys got to the top. Currently working on our truck to add the tricky component of actually walking those tracks ourselves. Great vid.
I’m not even a minute in and need to comment! 🤣 Firstly, Devils used to be a common sight in the 90s, they weren’t elusive then. It’s just that bloody facial tumour disease nearly wiped them out. Secondly, if you want to see wild platypuses you don’t need to be in the wilderness, there are quite a few living along the Hobart Rivulet in South Hobart with a nice walking track alongside leading from nearly the CBD to the Cascade brewery. Now I’ll shut up and keep watching! Edit: I know I said I’d shut up but at 7:33 that’s a pied currawong.
It’s just devastating and tragic that they have almost been wiped out! We have a running joke about not spotting much wildlife, when we do it’s always a celebration!

We did see a couple right at the end of our trip. Sadly we didn’t make it to Mole Creek this time, but we will definitely be back!

Thanks Mr & Mrs B! We miss Tassie so much.
Wow! 😍 Absolutely STUNNING spot (the needles). We hadn’t heard of this one, but it’s now on our list. Thanks for sharing!

definitely worth the hike!
Very nice video on beautiful Tasmania thank you

We really hoped to see an Aurora but weren’t so lucky.
Hi guys, great episode, looking forward to doing Tassie. That bird at your lake camp was a currawong.
Thank you! You’d think Nigel would know, being the bird man!
We live in Tas, and yes the railway is a great trip normally!
Yeah we were so disappointed! But we will definitely be back and will do it next time
Great hike. Has look of the foot hills of the rocky mountains. . . But a lot lower.
Yes no rush of altitude sickness here! We loved how rugged the mountains are though
Stunning hike, thanks for taking us along! Hope Nigel's over his manflu (didn't know that was a thing, LOL)...😂
Maybe it’s just an Australian thing. Ask any man, they will assure you it’s true! Haha.
Thanks for watching Diane 🙏☺️
Fantastic. I used to live in Tasmania and you take things for granted. Other words tourists get to see more than locals.

Bluddy bewdiful views again; and the indefatigable Nigel and his quirky dive - loved it, thanks
Thank you David! We’ve missed you and your eloquent comments!!
Thanks guys

That bird looks like a white winged Chough.
We found out later it’s a currawong, so many birds look similar!
Wow! What a hike ! Amazing guys. Free camps looked beautiful.
Definitely one of our favourite hikes! And the free camps in Tassie are next level.
Wow, that was just spectacular. So many beautiful places. Tassie gives the mainland a run for its money I think. Good job on that hike. 😁🤗
It really does Lynne. So much awesomeness packed into such a small place. I’d miss the red dirt though
Lovely mountain views! Waterfall was gorgeous :)
There are so many gorgeous waterfalls in Tasmania!! It’s such a beautiful place. Thanks for watching

Devils have never been a common sight in Tasmania. If you live here your whole life you are unlikely to see one in the wild.
@@MrSouthernlord I saw plenty of them driving at night before their numbers plummeted. 50 of my 53 years living here.
That was Magestical.
Tasmania is definitely majestical.
currawong bird
Thanks! And yes, we saw a lot of those birds. Very interesting call.
