I was born in Kazakhstan, wild apples are everywhere. Looks and taste vary extremely. Some are way too sour to enjoy, others are lightly sweet and mushy. I loved a variety of very small apples (1 inch), firm flesh and a refreshing combination of sour and sweet. Former capital and biggest city has "apple" ("alma") in its name.
In America near the town where Johnny Appleseed was born they are they’s tiny native crabapples and close relatives hawthorns that usually probably tatses pretty bad depending on species they have apples and apple relatives that are like little berries smaller then cherries they grow every where wildly.
Mo, you are a hoot! Loved this article - esp since it included a city from my home state. If you are ever in Central Indiana (south side of Indianapolis) you should look up Adrians Orchard (on West Epler Street). This orchard is one of the remaining few in our area and they have the very best apple cider I've tasted in all of my years. Thanks and keep on, keepin' on.
Never know if your apple tree will grow bitter or sweet apples, so you splice branches from trees you know grow sweet apples to the branches of trees that grow bitter apples to get more sweet apples.
I wish they would come out with a non GMO apple that is low in malic acid. Even the ambrosia apples irritate my stomach and esophagus. So I can't eat any of them. Even though I love them.

Who agrees red delicious is the grossest apple.
The skin is too tough.
Bitter & skin is tough
I just don't like the taste.
Agreed!
Grady Auvil said that red was dead in the nineteen fifties! Bulldozed acres of those loser apples....yeah they were gross to put it politely.
My land... Kazakhstan 🇰🇿
I was excited for the Cosmic Crisp. I was totally let down. Idk, maybe I had too high expectations.
Same. I think Honeycrisp is still my favorite store variety.
