This actually helps so much... I have been dealing with Chinese business owners from a distance and they have not been true to their word...this explains A LOT about what's been going on! It's not "dishonesty and dishonor" to them, whereas the way I was raised it is! I'm so glad I learned this- I never would have thought that culture could affect that.

Face not only include looking good in front of others, but also looking bad when necessary. Example- letting your superior make jokes on you during annual dinner so the group can have a good laugh. You would be giving your boss "face".
pride is so ugly. there's a version of English pride which really means honor, but generally speak pride is bad in English/Western societies.
As a westerner, this seems unjust, counterproductive, and incredibly insecure... But I'll just accept that it's the way I was raised I guess. It explains a lot of things about the CCP.

'' Face'' really is important because that's the environment we live and how we been taught.
It's all about insecurity and lying to yourself. In other words it's completely illogical. I hope this backward mindset will terminate soon. It's not adapted to the 21st century.

“Face” culture I think our newer generation can start abandoning this antiquated concept. It distract us from what really matters. The false notion of pride prevent us from realizing our weak spots therefore prevent us from positioning ourselves better to succeed. I have seen enough examples of people believing in “face” and in the end being enslaved from achieving greater happiness.
