    Mike Caro said and I paraphrase that you could be the 9th best poker player in the world but if you only play with the 8 best you’ll be a losing player. You could be the 9th worst player in the world but if you only play with 8 worst you’ll be a crusher.

    • @Nick-xu7ns
      @Nick-xu7ns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@rambojohnj.6117 Absolutely he has great results. And he deserves recognition for those, in the same way that a guy like Gus Hansen had great results. But Antonio has been retired for a few years (yes he played hellmuth in the challenge but even he said it wouldn’t end his retirement), clearly hasnt kept up on the game and is no longer someone you’re really fearing at the top level. Yeah he’d probably still crush your local casino game, but he’s not going to be putting in the work to be crushing the highest stakes anymore.
      That was my main point. In most nosebleed games Rick is going to be facing a much tougher opposition than Esfandiari. Not to take away from Antonio. He’s done a lot for the game and has made some great money from it. I’m not saying he was never good. He used to be one of the top players in the world. It’s just not that time anymore. Which is fine. That’s what happens when you retire from something.

Then you have Perkins and JRB that flat out suck - Antonio is the only one that has a clue. IMO Rick is a good player...yeah he has some leaks and plays a high variance style of play where he will either be the biggest winner or maybe the biggest loser... but he plays his style very well.

      Bobby Baldwin is no slouch. He was playing in some big Macau cash games with Dwan, Ivey, Petrangelo and the big Asian High Rollers. Rick made a great bluff but he caught flops, his swings and variance are very wide. This episode Rick was the beast.
