- Apologies for the terrible audio quality at 14:25 when I arrive on the land for a couple minutes. TH-cam cleared my video, and then copyrighted it a couple hours later. So I had to blank the music, and it's left it in a bad way.

Me and Barney take on the 1000+ mile journey from Dover to Calais, through France, Spain and into Portugal to see what's happened to our 1800m2 plot of agricultural land in the six months we've been back in England.
The Portuguese are NOT thieves, in fact, they are much more trustworthy than our British folk. Tent untouched with all belongings still inside, camera phone and solar panel still here.
It's a little overgrown, but nothing a little tending to won't sort.
We have made it 💓

I am amazed that your dog ate the food you prepared for him, Rice, sardines, tomatoes, etc. Good healthy food that I would eat.
So why do people feed their dogs sh*t in a can??? I have never had a pet dog so no idea what they eat.
He didn't look happy at all in the van but sprang into life once you reached your destination. A really lovely dog.

I have the same dream except I haven't been able to buy any land.
In my dream of buying some land I plan to build a really small house so that I can live in the small house whilst I build a really big house, and once that really big house is finished the small house will then be for guests.
Although in my dream of buying land it's all in northern Germany, so I would need to have a proper building of some sort to keep the weather off.
I would also build a fence with solar panels in it, it's called "vertical solar" (it's a proper name for just having your solar panels vertically), it's good when the sun is low in the sky and it doesn't take up any space. I'm hoping you can cheap solar panels second hand.
I dream about buying land and building on it a lot, just need to find a job to get the money to get started.

@@looselywild2679community is vital in Portugal, cindy vine is amazing and she's on TH-cam, she was kind enough to lend me her chainsaw the other day so I could deal with a problem tree. I met one of my neighbours this week and he said he'd keep a eye on the place while I'm back in the UK working. Nick from Project portugal is great to, he gives loads of building advice. Pentioners in portugal gave me a lift last year to CB train station as a favour to me so I gave a few euro to say thanks and cover the fuel costs. Dont be to quick to wright people off they can be a lifesaver in times of need. Origin homestead are also dealing with the visa situation, they know a advisor for this stuff they offered to give me the details but I'm not in a position to do that yet. Things take time sadly.

Good to see you have changed heading Lucy - which could have been misinterpreted and upset a few people 🤫 You won't have any trouble where you are in the country amongst the locals and you have met your neighbours who will be looking out for you 😃 I did the same as you but had to return to UK in 1999 . Lived in Algarve inland in the country and my plot was very similar to yours . Whilst building my house and for the 17 years I lived there I had no trouble whatsoever . The Portuguese country folk are lovely honest people and are most welcoming . I came back to UK once and left my car open with keys in it without any probs .... You will be fine once you get your head around all the bureaucracy . Look after yourself and Barn .x

My first plan is to dig out a pond, and begin planting a food forest 😁 the long term goal is to connect it up with main water and electricity, add an agricultural shed, and sell it so I can upgrade to a plot I can build and live out the rest of my days on 💕

I wouldn't bother with a mower but I would get a cheap and cheerful petrol strimmer, it would suit your purposes much better. Great to see everything you had early in the year is still there!

@@looselywild2679cheap 😂 there about €200 cheap petrol strimmers dont exist or maybe I'm just cheap 😂 plus where will she store the strimmer, the van is already full. If you need a guy Lucy I know a guy recommended by my neighbour hes doing my land with a tractor on Monday (if it ever stops raining) but he also dose strimming work.

@@looselywild2679 I am very happy with my 18volt battery strimmer,, it's a Ryobi OBC1820B it is about €200 from amazon germany (they ship to PT) but without battery and charger. Battery is simpler than petrol, it is probably not as powerful,, but it is way more reliable, less noisy and starts when you press the button and not after 200 puls on a string 🙂,, cough cough I did a video on this strimmer,, video 1341 on my channel.
Lucy, you want to leave some stuff,, so you do not need to bring everything forth and back. A crazy idea! a water IBC,, those 1000L plastic things. Get two,, use one for water. Paint it white, make a back door in the other one, and hide your stuff in side of it.
Well done Lucy you finally achieved your long drive, not around the roads of UK, but across 4 countries. How I envy you in now 26 degrees, reminds of Tenerife. Warm and sunny weather encourages me to go clothes free. Thankfully I don't broadcast on TH-cam. You will now be busy strimming no doubt to clear the brush. Enjoy.

Glad you made it safe and well Lucy, I’ve done that same as you this year, bought a lovely plot of land to make my own, I’ve just returned back to the uk in a gorgeous camper van I bought out there and drove back over 6 days, if you get a chance on your way back, you MUST stop in Salamanca, it’s the most beautiful place. I have a question, with taking barn over with you did he need a vaccination 21 days before?

Barney did need a rabies vaccination prior to his Animal Health Certificate appointment! He'll also need a tapeworm tablet administered by a vet in France before I return to the UK.

Have you looked at the government survey plan of your plot on the DGT website? If so you should check whether you have marker stones at the vertices shown on there (+/- 3m). You may have more than 4 if your plot is not a perfect rectangle (my "square" plot has 6 because 2 sides are not quite straight!).
Is the water fountain fed from the mains? If it is from a well or spring be cautious about drinking it until you are sure of the quality.

The fountain is fed from mains 😁 I've seen lots of them on my travels. I don't think I've ever seen a public tap in England except for on the beach!

Don't let it stop you! I did find it a bit of a struggle when I hired a car in February, the wheel being on the wrong side of the car took me a full day to get used to!
But if you're driving your UK vehicle, you'll find it no trouble at all. I just imagine I'm always on a one way street. The positioning of the vehicle is no different. And it's very difficult to go the wrong way at a roundabout, as it would be like doing a big u-ey to go left. The roads are designed amazingly in Europe! Much better than England 😁 and the roads are quieter!!
Trust me you get used to it fast, if your a confident driver. I overtook a Portuguese driver yesterday they only did 100 in a 120kph so I went for it, its fun, good roads over here. Like me lucy dose a deliver job in the UK so is used to the driving I guess. I'd like to see if that van could do 120kph though 😂😂
@@grahamsfarmportugal2022 ha! The limit is 130kph in France! I'm not sure what it works out to but I think just over 80mph!! My little transit done it no problems 😁
But it's the UK that drives on the wrong side of the road. In Portugal they drive on the right side. LOL

I think it was 21 hours once I arrived in Calais. Maybe a little longer as I wasn't hitting the speed limits for a day or more while I got used to things.

Another Solar Panel could help you keep the van battery charged. They are cheaper and larger, but produce much more than 12V so you would need a buck converter to step down the voltage.

In my video prior to this one I mentioned I had some some help fitting my solar panel. It's 450w so provides plenty, I wouldn't fit two of them on my little roof 😂
I’ve skiing several people moved to Portugal or France with pets and yet I have never seen them discuss whether or not they did any research on insect or reptiles that can be dangerous to the pets! I know Portugal, one TH-camr’s dog came across the caterpillar and the quill from the caterpillar caused the dogs tongues swell up and the dog almost died! Vet said that these caterpillars can kill the dog in minutes! I was wondering if anyone warned you about that!
Barney did get stung by a wasp today, but hasn't come into contact with anything else aggressive yet 🤞🏼 I have heard about scary caterpillars. I think they are likely to be summer bugs, so I'm not too worried about those. Though I have been digging, and you wouldn't believe the beasties I've been finding underground!! Google Mole Cricket 😨

I have altered the title. It wasn't my intention to cause any offence, I was only asking the question I've been wondering for the last 6 months while I've been in England. Will my tent and belongings still be there? I'm pretty sure it would have been pilfered in England. I was wrong to question it.
@@looselywild2679 I understand your concerns, but I think you'll find your neighbours in Portugal will be a positive asset when you get to know them. I moved to rural Normandy a few years ago and have been struck by the positive contrast in attitudes compared with the UK. I'm sure you and Barney will be very happy whenever you can get there. Eventually an agricultural shed to be able to install mains water. But no liveable permanent structures allowed here sadly.

Evening Lucy, so you made it at last, out of all that stormy, cold, wet English climate. Well we've had some rain as well , but a bit late starting, am sure you have felt it has it has rained a bit since you got here... I don't know how you are doing on the visa side of things as I never had such problems, just bought a house and a plane ticket and been here since. I came under the Anglo, Portuguese accord and doesn't come any easier than that. Don't know what you plan for your 3 month stay, but a fence around the property would be a good idea then you can plant various fruit trees and bushes and sort your water supply out. That should keep you busy for a while.. If you need any advice of types of fruit or anything else, just ask and I'll be happy to help From what I know from others you have 2 types of visa you can apply for. Job seekers visa that is for 4 month if you find a job you get a 3 year permit or if not they give you 2 more months then still no job you go home. Second is a d7 for this you need £8,000 in the bank and the same as an annual income. Hope this helps.
Your info is out of date. Passive income is required for D7 visa (that's income from a pension, diviends, rental income, etc any income that you get without having to work for it) and minimum passive income required is now 14 x minimum wage which is now 820 Euros, going up in Jabuary. Jonseekers visa has ended.
@@donnacosta5633 I'll take it you are trying to live here as well. I only give her what I have got from others who are getting frustrated with it. I never had such problems as I came here under the accord rules before Brussels poked it's nose into things that is no concern of theirs as the accord doesn't have there name on it. Even if the income has gone up is still only a tad over £9,000 not exactly a vast fortune in this day an age when most people make £3,000 a month. It costs me about £4,000 to live here, that's a year so I can understand why people want to come here also better weather and very few wragheads as they are just trouble where ever they go. If you know so much. Tell me, who broke the 650 year old peace treaty. I bet Brussels had something to do with it as I remember in June last year both country's got together to celebrate it

@@looselywild2679 E3,000 a month, that doesn't sound right as most people here only earn E1,200 a month, wages here are less than 1.2 U.K. so I'd double check that one if I were you. Any way what ever you do good luck as it's worth the hassle. Just a pitty you didn't move a couple of years ago before Brussels stuck it's big nose into other peoples peace treaty as I just bought a plane ticket and moved and still here 5 years on. Like all countries it has it's good points and it's bad points, but no where near as bad as the U.K. as that has gone too the dogs and now will be worse with that brain dead twit Stamar in charge.
