I live close to Wilmington & Western Railroad, and I like trains too, but I prefer Strasburg Railroad more because it's cheaper to ride the trains there. 8618 is my favorite locomotive from Strasburg, and it's the only diesel that is used there. This is a great video with it helping pull the coaches, since 90 wasn't working for some reason at that time. Sometimes outside of its main job to move freight cars around it'll help with pulling the coaches for trips. Also 8618 should be shown on the Strasburg Railroad website. It's not apparently, despite being part of the roster.
Something broke on 90 during the first trip of the day. By the time they would have 89 or 475 fired up and ready to go, all the trains for the day would of been done
Fun fact they had 8618 pull the coaches between the station and groff’s grove on the day 475 crashed on November 2nd 2022 the crashed happened during the 11Am train and 8618 pulled the rest of the runs and after that It went to save the broken 475 from paradise
Now there's something you don't see everyday on the Strasburg railroad. I wonder why they couldn't just use 89 since 475 is currently going through an overhaul that'll hopefully be done in the next few weeks before the 611 events start happening since 611 just arrived yesterday and at first I thought this trip would take a week to get there but I didn't know or realize that Virginia and Pennsylvania are right next to each other so I'm a bit upset at myself but we all make mistakes
Because by the time 90 developed an issue there wasn’t time to fire up a steam engine. Takes 4-6 hours and there are several trains scheduled before then.
From a cold start, it can take about 3 to 3 and half hours just for steam to appear on the gauge. You then to need to have the right amount to get the train to even move.
Awesome! Well What a Difference at Strasburg no steam! Well we are all glad 90 is Back! Great Video buddy! Love it!
What a difference, right?! Glad you liked it! Gonna try to get back down there when 611 is there

The K5LA sounds like it was taken off Conway Scenic GP38 #252
Thanks for posting! I love watching and listening to first-generation EMDs under load.
Glad you liked it!
Go to the Black river and western railroad in Ringoes NJ. They have two SW1s and one of from 1939.

Great! I’m glad someone could catch this rare action
That K5LA on 8618 sounds like the ones you find on Amtrak!
One of the guys who works at Strasburg told me it was an ex-Chessie System K5LA, but yeah it does kinda sound like a first generation Amtrak one.
Definitely has a Chessie vibe to it like the one on the B&O Railroad Museum's 3802 and the ex ICG GP10 we have one on at HVSRY.
Awesome video keep up the good work
Thanks!
What the heck why would they use 8618 for that? They are known for only using 89, 90, qnd 475 for there excursions

Oh I see
8618 does the ghost whistle 😂
Yup, lol 3:23
@@EngineerDaylight "Does anybody want to hear a ghost horn?" -Doc.
Soon when 1235 returns to operation, 8618 could doublehead with 1235 on both occasional revenue freight and excursion passenger trains in the future!
Now this is something rare to see on Strasburg diesel pulling the trains

It’s weird seeing her pull passengers but weird in a good way.

Why couldn't 89 take charge instead?
Do you know how long it takes to fire up a steam locomotive cold?
@@willhorowitz8806 how long 3 hours
Evan's Megazord reviews more like all day if it’s done right.
Jared Taylor about 5 or 6 hours at least, not a day.
