I love mine. I've had it for 4 months or so. I get 7-10 mi on an average day. I run it with a k30 mag mount. It's in my daily driver (95 civic) so space is a key factor.
Great review of this radio! I've been looking to change up from my cobra 29 to a good radio that's a bit smaller and this one seems to be exactly what i've been looking for, thanks again for your great and helpful review on this radio.
Im confused with mine. I bought it brand new, and the display lights up, but it doesn't show anything. The only sound I get is a little click when pressing the talk button.
I did not realize the importance of using a SWR meter for my uniden pro505xl. I've had it on more then a few times (not for very long), I've even heard chat before but not very well. Just curious if I already fried it? As I'm unsure what people mean by damaging the unit by not using a SWR.
An SWR meter measures how much power is being bounced back into your radio while you are transmitting/talking. If you are using an antenna that was specifically designed for a CB *and* you are using the legal power of 4 Watts, then you can probably rest easy. But if you've been running an amplifier and other mods, then that changes things. Just buy yourself an SWR meter from RightChannelRadios, Amazon, or some other CB-focused website/company and check your SWR. If it's below 2:1, then you should be fine. Anything above 2:1..... like 2.5:1 or 3:1, then you need to make adjustments. Watch a few videos on SWR meters to get an idea on how to use and then how to adjust your antenna, radio, and other things to get an acceptable SWR measurement. Good luck!
In the article posted on your website, it says you adjusted L205 to raise the deadkey to 4 watts. Can you elaborate on how you tweaked that coil? Is it spread to increase, compress to decrease? I'm trying to lower my deadkey to 1 - 2 watts. Thanks!
I have one and it sounds like it has an ANL but without a switch to turn it off, has a smooth hiss without the snap crackle pop like my other radios have when the ANL is in the off position. Nice little radio fits perfectly in a smaller car. My only wish was that when holding down the channel up/down button it would go slower so that you could hear if someone was on a channel without stopping. Maybe replace the channel 9 button with a scan button to find activity, that would be great.
You are to into cb for this radio, this is for a friend, get the 880 or if you need ssb, the 980. all channel scan program scan wx swr meter volt meter talkback 6 display colors and more... but a bonkers, rare 6pin mic plug, but they have an adapter in the box.
Can anyone tell me the size of the hardware (screws) that come with and needed to install this model CB? I need to order some and don't know what size to order. Thank you for your assistance!
Me and a Friend have jeeps. What would the range be with this radio? Would this be a good radio to communicate with on trails together? What would you suggest?
I just bought this radio and am new to all of this is hooked up to 2 Firestik 2 antennas. I'm not getting any transmission or any signal ever. haven't heard a single word on it yet
Hook up an SWR meter and check your standing wave ratio. You want anywhere from 1.1 to 2.5. If your SWR is higher than that, say like 3 for example, you won't transmit anything and you will fry the finals in your radio. Also make sure you're grounded well. As for receiving, make sure it's on CB not PA or you're squelch is adjusted properly.
@@Joseph79625 its very good. Grab yourself a exterior speaker it plugs in the back, and as far as the squelch.. all the way to the right and quarter turn it to the left
im looking to get one of these. and this will be my first one. is there a set distance for these things? or does it depend on your antenna? please answer back
Is there a way to receive and transmit without the SQL sound on? I just got one and tried talking to someone without the SQL on and wouldn’t work. But with it on it works?
That would depend on how much power the other person your trying to is pushing out of his station. If you set the sql higher than what they’re pushing you won’t hear them
not too sure as I said I am new to it but antennas are grounded good not sure if you hook it up like it typical electronic I have the red wire going to my fuse box constant power and the red and black wire grounded hope that's correct any help would be appreciated
+Adam Long you have to calibrate the antenna with an swr meter. if you just hook it up expecting it to be ready to go, then you're gonna fuck up the unit really fast. but google search "cb radio swr tuning" and you should find plenty of helpful sites
+Khristastrophe ironically I used to call my friend Chris "Chris tastrophe" cuz everything seem to fall apart on him, second irony, I stopped at a thrift store while out exploring yesterday and happen to notice of the corner of my eye 10 SWR meter brand new in the box from the eighties for a dollar!
+Khristastrophe still not sure how to use the SWR meter. What does that help you determine the location where you want to mount your antenna? what does the SWR meter do I know it tells you something specific but how are you supposed to make adjustments using one?
Adam Long The swr meter helps determine if you need to shorten or lengthen your antenna. just google search "cb swr tuning" and click the first link. it'll explain way better than i can
is the ext speaker connection a 3.5mm connection similar to what you find in an aux input for car stereos? Wondering if anyone just hooked it up this way to hear better on the actual cars stereo?
It's a 1/8" mono jack. You would most likely also need a mono to stereo converter adapter to get it thru both speakers, otherwise it'll be left channel only.
Range varies on if you tune the antenna among other things like what antenna you use where its mounted if its mounted right but anywhere from 2-5 miles is common
the range will be around 4 miles (give or take) antenna size does play a part in range but not as much as other factors. pm me and i can go into much more detail. source: i am a licenced ham radio operator and have made many antennas and used many radios including cb.
there isnt really a better or worse. all cb radios will transmit. its more about antennas. a short (21 inch) antenna will work but will not work well. a longer antenna will work better.
There are 2 models one made in china and one made in vietnam there are different boards. The one from vietnam can be tuned inside the china one can not be tuned china one is a cheaper made model
I contacted Uniden customer support and they e-mailed me that they are discontinuing development on the SSB model. No wonder everyone is buying export radios ! Cobra and Uniden both forgot how to make them ! What a shame.... Maybe they should become cell phone companies.

This video had everything I needed. I am hoping to squeeze one into the ashtray space of my car.
Gosh a lot of questions are not getting answered that would help other who have the same questions bummer.

Could someone tell me what is a good power source to use inside the house please? I blowed a fuse trying!

How many amps does this require? I plan to have it in my house and I was going to use a 12 volt 1.8 amp power supply from Tractor Supply.
I've heard this radio is very good even though basic. Sometimes you just don't need all the bells and whistles.
Does someone else have to have one or can it connect to other CBs

So bridge the PA and EXT SKR center leads. With a hundred ohm resistor. Wonder how loud the talkback is at that value
Just ordered one for my PA system im gonna install in my jeep
Buck Biggsly I know it’s over a year ago but how did you do it?

How do you put in house mate
Its funny how CB radio companies still think CH 9 is used like it was 40 years ago! LOL
People use channel 9?

Where do i set my squelch level ?
Im having a hard time hearing anything back when i put out a mic check on channel 19. Im a trucker and this is my first radio
Me too ! Bought it for the truck and Im guessing this is not the best option for a truck.
@@Joseph79625 I actually still use this radio

Do you have to buy a speaker or does it have one built in
It does have it's own speaker and it's perfectly usable, but there's an output jack in the rear for an external speaker if you want something better.
How is it connected?

Can you run it off your lighter put for power?
long as it's 12v
What is the signal strength per bar on the signal strength meter?
0 I'll tell you buddy your question doesn't even apply this it doesn't even matter
whats better, this or the older 510xl or 520xl models?
Should I buy this
what do the end of the power wires look like?
exposed wire. you either have to power it with a fuse tap or add a cig lighter plug yourself. I added one from walmart for less than $5
Eli Mogenson think you can send me a link for that adaptor? To plug it into lighter
Can you make a cb for dummies video
How loud go up to dude
I what be your friend mate
What does the SQL do? I am new to this...
It is a noise canceling option when no one is commucating it will be muted
Squelch controls if how much noise to allow.
does it come with a antenna
