Owner of a XJ-R575 for the last two years, on the back of 9 yrs of XF ownership. Love my XJ, especially the sleeper aspect. Catches so many cars out, here in the UK. Reliability hasn't been an issue. I'd argue that modern Jaguar XJs are as reliable as anything else out there.
Hi, what's your running cost been like. Looking to also purchase an XJ to my collection of cars. The design is timeless 14 years on and is a true underrated beauty.
Not bad to be honest. Around town I only get 11-15mpg, but on the motorways at 60 I can get a steady 40mpg. 70 will return 35-37mpg. Servicing can hurt though. The R tax for next service will be £1500, though that includes everything, plus gearbox oil change. Last 'A' service was £400. 'B' service is usually around £650. Service plans definitely help reduce these costs though. Might seek an indy specialist. That said, it's not a car bought for economy, but miles of smiles. My sensible everyday car is a 2017 Audi A4 Avant 2.0L TDi.
Bought my wife a 2013 XJL Portfolio in Caviar Metalic and Cashew interior with piano black trim from Car Max with 35k miles plus extended warranty. Only thing that has gone wrong is the coolant reservoir went bad, 1st OEM replacement was bad also. We only have 60k miles now, never used the extended warranty. Transmission shifts so smoothly in concert with velvet smooth engine. I do get a slight steering wheel shimmy while braking about 40mph, mechanic checked, rotors had slight warp, mechanic said rotors made from very hard material, couldn't resurface, would need new ones. Brakes done last year so leaving alone. We love the car now owning it for 6 years, my wife is still, well Gaga over it. So much power 385 hp NA, no regrets at all, nothing but compliments about it. What a beautiful rear end, taillights are stlyed with the Jaguars claw in mind, roof was inspired from motor yachts upper deck. Great video, was interested in the timing chain issue, oil changed yearly at authorized independent shop at or below max 5k miles. Would we buy another...Yes!!!
My 2014 XJL also had the low coolant light come on, the engine stalled on Dallas’ Central Expressway while on business from Houston with just AT 50,000 miles . $30k later I have a new Jaguar engine. NO after market engines could be found. Out of warranty and NEVER use Endurance as a contract “extended warranty”. The cause of the failure was a plastic coolant hose broke, dumping all the coolant in seconds. Ruined the blocks and heads. Endurance said they would replace the failed part, the broken pipe (a known issue), but I was SOL on the damage it immediately caused. I HATE that I love the car so much. Thanks for the vent.
I have 2 Jaguar cars a 2004 Xtype and a 2014 XJL the XJ also splashed the oil hose and the engine died, the engine had 80k miles replace the engine with another with 110k miles
Beautiful cars. A buddy of mine bought a 2 year old (at the time) version that still had warranty. At only 2 years old, he had US$30k worth of warranty work performed within the first 3 months of ownership.
Wow that's terrible. Thanks so much giving us further light on the reality of owning cars like this. Later in my research I found an individual with a new Jaguar XF at the time who had his vehicle in the shop for 114 days.
We bought a 2012 XF portfolio and have replaced fuel pump and alternator, one strut and that’s it-other than a coolant leak-which we are going to take back to dealer today. We bought it with 42k and now it has 78k. We’ve had it for 4 so years
@@user-360johnn have to remember, that is full dealership price on parts and labor to show the customer how much goodwill the manufacturer has. Not what the manufacturer warranty paid.

You recommend buying at 100,000 miles? That’s high mileage guy. I would never buy any luxury car at 100,000 miles except maybe a Lexus LS. You will have problems on any car after or long before 100,000 miles! Buy used at 20-40,000 miles with CARFAX and maintenance records.

I have a 2011 Jaguar XJL that I have owned since 2013. I have 170,000 miles on it. It has been GREAT! The body and interior look great. The interior looks almost brand new. The high-quality leather doesn't have any cracks. I rarely polish or condition the leather, and it still holds up great. The wood grain also looks great, and doesn't have any swirls nor fading. Most importantly, my wife still loves the car after 11 YEARS!
I've had my 2016 XJ 5.0 for almost 2 years now. I bought it with 32K miles on it. The only issue I've had is the backseat sunroof shade is stuck. I bought it in Las Vegas and drove it to Atlanta. That ride was GREAT!! I've had to do nothing but get regular oil changes! LOVE MY JAG!!
Brilliant guide. I have been very lucky, and have owned a S-Type, XFS, XE and currently own a XJ R-Sport, which is just a dream - classy, elegant, powerful, with an incredible road present. The ONLY car I would consider to replace the beautiful XJ is possibly a F-Type, but.......two seats.
I rented an XJ in 2021 for an extended period in MA. I love the car but not the seat. Im 6.2 300 pounds, and despite the seat's different positions, I couldn't find one that accommodated my body. Other than that, I love it. I wouldn't buy it due to its reliability.
Wow I had no idea you owned an XJ and 2 and that matter. So sorry these were not reliable. Many said that Jaguar attempted to improve reliability with this generation but clearly that didn't help
There is one right now that I’d love to buy with just 38,000 one owner miles. Appears from CARFAX it’s been well cared for including in CA at that very expensive High dollar auto European car company. I forget the name. They shipped it out there for the winters then sometimes drove it back to the Midwest or shipped it. Regular oil changes and only minor repairs. Idk. I love it.
You have given one of the best reviews ever with history of each xj351 years. I’m looking forward to upgrade from my near flawless 2011 xjl portfolio w/picnic tables never used to a 2019. Forgot to mention only 56k miles. Issue: water pump

A very good review. I have a 66,000 mile 2012 5.0 Supercharged Portfolio (short body not the L, yay!), pretty much full spec, eg illuminated sills, the Bowers system etc etc. I am the 2nd owner. This is the SC car prio to release as XJ-R and in NZ so some specs may not be the same say for US models This is a great car, and I have had Ferrari's, different Mercs etc and currently also have a Merc SLS Roadster so I love cars. I can run them very hard so bear that in mind on the maintenance below. Most of the work done by a Jaquar dealer including every annual and that will continue. Here is my add. 1. Car started stalling in drive and on the move. Diagnosed that an air intake was separating from the air intake system buy why? It was an engine mount issue, 1 mount was really bad, 1 not so good. I replaced all 3 mounts. Note I use full power evry now and again so get engine wanting to move so puts more stress on mounts. 2. Brakes. I have installed EBC Yellow part nos DP42076R and DP42059R. I have the big factory rotors also, Will stay with factory rotors. 3. VERY IMPORTANT. All X351s until sometime build dates sometime late 2012 will get corrosion in the sunroof area and must be rectified. The corrosion is due to mounting the steel frame that holds the glass roof onto the aluminium body. Electrolysis occurs due to the material difference. This is basic engineering 101. The rust started appearing immediately and a factory fix was introduced by adding more sealant coatings. But unless you happen to look you would never know. I looked because I started to get water in the front pax footwell. There is plenty of stuff online how to rectify the damage and prevent it occuring again. Do it early though so you do not have to detach the front glued glass. 4. VERY IMPORTANT for all years and not known by many service departments if any. Water ingress in front footwells. I was told various things to fix like take out the entire roof to see if the corrosion had gone further, OR rip out the entire dash to look at the aircon system. 2 years to find the issue and I was the one that found it, not Jaq service or any panel shop. The water ingresses through the front firewall. The water comes down from the windscreen and is meant to go through a drain system that starts on the roof. What happens is the drain system gets blocked over time eg from road dirt/dust, maybe bits of old leaves etc. The water backs up and there are parts of the fire wall that act like compartments. There are holes through the firewall for whatever that are sealed but the sealant overtime degrades. I found holes with the sealant sitting there but detached. The water then floods in. You should make sure the drains are cleared in service from beneath the car. Also look at the roof esp with the previous roof issue being a factor. You could also reseal the firewall holes too.
I appreciate what you’re doing here. 04’ XJR owner for the past 9 years, that car has been nothing but reliable, aside from old suspension components. But hell you don’t expect tires to last forever can’t expect suspension bushings to either. Grounding issues are also a thing with aluminum bodied cars, causes all kinds of electrical gremlins. Looking at potentially getting an X351 to keep mileage off of my pickup truck. Since I do all my own work I am thinking even more about a newer xj.
Bought a 2013 xj 3.0 had that timing chain tick at 30k miles!! Traded it in for a Pontiac G8 Gt.. Next day the car salesman was asking me if there was any known problems with the car lol
I think overall, these vehicles can be a bargain under 15k for the type of vehicle you're getting. Much like most luxury vehicles, they're not the best at reliability and are meant more so for a night on the town than as a daily due to cost of parts and maintenance. And they wont be as bad for someone like me who only drives my current car like 1 or 2 times a week, if that at all. Wich means fuel costs are kept down, due to less useage, and parts wont fail as often also due to lack of use. So if anyone finds themselves in a situation like mine, so long as youre aware that parts are a bit more on the pricey side when something does fail (and youre bringing in more than 300 bucks a week 😅) you shoukd be able to safely afford the car without much issue. However I do agree, that if youll use this as a daily and ut will be tour main form of transportation and youre looking for something reliable and relatively cheap, please heed this mans advice and look elsewhere. These are beautiful, comfy, and fun driving cars, but those maintenance costs alone will make you regret your decision. If you still want to get one, used or otherwise, get your finances in order, the average cost of maintenance is almost $2,000 a year thats not taking into account gas prices, among other expenses
Loved the old jaguar xjs, …that’s the v12, right. I’m old enough to remember days they were always parked in the mechanics lot. Like the old quatroport. Back in those days the Audi & “art of engineering” reputation was killed by uncontrolled surges… not good time for cars, also had the pinto, maverick, pacer… pick your horrible car. Then, if I recall jag had a few ownership changes, but they never seemed to capture a reputation of being any more reliable. Honestly, I didn’t even know/consider the xj. Am kinda curious about the supercharged v8. But it seems they made substantial improvements. Doesn’t Tata now own jag? is higher quality attributable to them? Are they made in England or India? I know Tata from IT consulting & seems they are now into most everything these days. Thanks for the insight, I’m sure someone living near a jag dealership can have a ton on fun in a family hauler. Days of buying an expensive car & discount only to pay a lot more in maintenance are done… but I’ve done it & don’t regret it. These days I’d try to score a Toyota century. 😀
Tata did own Jag during the production cycle of this XJ and I guess reliability went up a little bit with them owning but it's still one of the worst. They mainly just used Tata money to fund the production of these vehicles, cars were all still made in England for the most part. Tata recently sold off majority of Jaguar Land Rover shares to a Chinese company so they're most likely going to end up like Lotus very soon with a bunch of EVs in the lineup as that's where the industry is headed anyway. If you want a Toyota Century def check out Duncan imports my friend they have a lot of old school Japanese cars and right hand drive vehicles.
Yes I can get around to doing a GLC eventually but in the meantime my friend, you can follow the same instructions and use the resources in this video to determine the reliability of a GLC yourself 👍
I agree, a used XJ should be purchased in cash with the ability to take multi thousand dollars hits. if purchasing with a loan i would find a reputable after market warranty that your mechanic has worked with satisfactorily. i actually did this with an F150 lariat and within 2 years they spent double what i gave them, 2600 vs 5400 dollars. also i personally do all fluids including brake. the jaguar XJ and XK are my loves and i'm willing to spend the time and money on these magnificent beasts. i am not rich but i am far from poor. Caveat Emptor.
As an XJ owner, this is an amazing vehicle. Fast, reliable, and the interior is amazing. You enjoying those massaging seats in your Corolla? Didn’t think so. For all of you saying you don’t like it, why are you even watching this when there are simple google searches to give you specs and reliability info? If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. Take care of it and it’ll treat you well. Act like a moron, and the car will treat you like a moron. Then again, there’s no accounting for taste. All you haters deserve an a civic or corrola. So go get one of those and stay away from these beautiful jags
I bet that bloke who had a coolant leak at 65k didn't inspect the engine bay from one month to the next. They only have themselves to blame not doing weekly fluid checks
I have the last made jaguar XJL. I love it. The guy who made this video had a dealership who fked him. My jaguar XJL has all the great perks, and rides smoothly. It provides me with a range of 570 miles which supersedes any EV anywhere in the mighty United States of America. It's a large full size luxury automobile and more than a pleasure to drive. This car serves me well. I have no problems at all......
Oil pumps going out totally unacceptable in normal usage. Water pumps on a lot of cars give a warning of some kind. 8 speed ZF should not be a pablem with early service intervals. Wow!! What a mess.
I feel like a lot of this is nitpicking… one man trash is another’s treasure. Every car over time is gonna show its age at some point. You’re gonna have to replace something or fix something that’s just how it goes😂😂. It’s 2024 and the price they are going for now I feel like it’s a steal. You get a lot for the price.
I think this is my first time being first lol. Have a great day Kevin
Hey brother I always appreciate the low and support you show me thank you for being first!
80000 miles on xjl both front suspension went out, new alternator, new water pump and computer needed to be replaced
I was thinking of 2012 to 2015 xjl which would you recommend out those years and model? Thank you
Still remember the Pontiac G8 GXP
Those are great
Loved the old jaguar xjs, …that’s the v12, right.
I saw a xjs on the road the other day. Was surprised honestly.
Zurich car warranty pretty good for 2016 genesis 3.8 sedan
Thanks you for the great video!!!❤
Does anyone know if the XJ autobiography is available in America? I've looked everywhere and I can't find it
How much is for 2019 xj in good shape
there’s one for sale for 6.5k with 120k miles. is that a good purchase?
Can you do a reliability review on the GLC 300 from 2020-2022
Yes I can get around to doing a GLC eventually but in the meantime my friend, you can follow the same instructions and use the resources in this video to determine the reliability of a GLC yourself 👍
@@MeynMotorGroup Ok, Thanks man!
@@shaunmiller3342 not a problem my friend I hope the resources are useful in your research God Bless!
Thanks for sharing
Oil pumps going out totally unacceptable in normal usage. Water pumps on a lot of cars give a warning of some kind. 8 speed ZF should not be a pablem with early service intervals. Wow!! What a mess.
I feel like a lot of this is nitpicking… one man trash is another’s treasure. Every car over time is gonna show its age at some point. You’re gonna have to replace something or fix something that’s just how it goes😂😂. It’s 2024 and the price they are going for now I feel like it’s a steal. You get a lot for the price. Especially if you get the supercharged one 🤷🏾♂️
Good luck my friend and God bless.
If u have good credit u can get one of these things for around 300$ a month..that should leave way more than enough room for repairs lol
Even if you have an 800 credit score used car interest rates are like 10-15%
@@MeynMotorGroup not true at all if u have a 720 or better u can get a 8/9% interest rate..you must live in Cali or Ny …even at 10% the numbers on a 15-22k car would still fit the mold..i do car rental for a living…i dont just speak, i speak from experience..currently have 2 xjls and a f pace..the payments are 301 and 351$..f pace- 420$..this is all FACT not an opinion brotha..taking one of the XJL’s to get minor repairs today🤷🏾♂️😂
@@jusjimmy and you think 8-9% is a good thing? That’s not exactly a blessing my friend just because the payment seem affordable to you, you’re still paying asinine money for every car in your business for old clapped out cars. You can literally finance or lease new cars with full warranty for less while building more equity than what you’re doing right now. It’s simple maths but you do you brother.
@@MeynMotorGroup bro..yes 8/9% is pretty fair in todays market..and to be honest we finance them to manipulate our business credit..just think..we finance cars we can afford to buy out, worst case scenario things go horribky wrong and we just buy the car out from the bank and our business credit stays sky high! The point is at the current orice of jaguars and maseratis etc there is plenty of room to PLAY! While your right about new cars, they arent worth the same when renting..i can get a 2015 jaguar for 17k (280$ a month) and rent it out for over 100$ a day..chevrolet’s not so much..i make my money back within months..the cars pay for themselves more cars and my mortgage🤷🏾♂️ the luxury cars dont require as much as people say…thats an old myth, most people just dont know how to take care of them (regular maintanance) how they should
My bro my main man 👍🏾 great job 💯
Thanks so much!
Good looking car, but I'd never buy one
Yea agreed love the car wouldn’t really consider buying tho 😅
Why? Iam going to buy? Can you tell me why not you buying the car?

@@MeynMotorGroupYo bro this car is pure luxury for sure and I see why this is your favorite car amongst big body luxury cars especially what I like the most is the interior never been a Jaguar fan but you already know the S Class Mercedes Benz is my all time favorite lol with the Lexus LS being my second a little bias I know bro 😂 the Jaguar just never had the exterior looks for me not knocking you or anybody else just my opinion but the Mercedes Benz S Class always did it for me not today so much with the exterior looks 🤝😎🫡👍🏾👍🏾

Swirly interiors ????
That's careless cleaning rubbing the grit around.
90% of folk don't know how to clean without scratching.
Nowt to do with the design just bodge monkery especially when dealerships clean them ⚠️
You lost me at..."creaking"....
😅😂
Just never buy one of these vehicles.
Why not? Bought mine in cash and years later, it’s been the greatest car I’ve ever had.
I love the British Jaguar and Range Rover and Aston Martin. They are all aesthetically appealing to me however everyone I know who owned a Jaguar has always commented on how unreliable they are. For me I need a reliable vehicle and unfortunately Jaguar is not that.
