I first heard of her before she became mainstream because of her song "Huddy" and I liked her cute tomboy aestetic and playful sound, which is what made me wanna follow her. When she gained more popularity she switched up to being this super sexy girly artist, which made her blend in instead of stand out because everyone is doing the sexy girly thing. I'm not against artists evolving or experimenting with their sound or look, but I think she did it too soon and does it too often which makes it harder to build a loyal fanbase.

It's not that they're "bankrolling" the sample clearances but there's a loophole labels found with that practice: if the artist being sampled is listed as a feature then they just get feature credit so you don't always have to clear the sample. It's cost-effective.

Idk her music, but I believe that you did "look into the lyrics enough". What I mean by that is, if you giving this album a good listen aint put the point across, the point falls flat. You shouldn't have to do a deep dive on the lyrics to understand the point. Now thats not to say having lyrics you got to dig into makes it fall flat, not at all. But you should dig into the lyrics for things like hidden meaning and context. Things like that. You shouldn't have to dig deep for the PURPOSE of it, that should be loud and clear for an artist in this space.

I listen to a few songs on repeat. My only problem with the album is that it feels like she's trying to make club music. "Don't Chat Me Up," "Spend It," and "Get Loud" all feel like club music.

People seem to only really like an artists aesthetic and lifestyle. The music is really irrelevant so followers of a persons persona will never transfer to their music or their craft

Being the offspring of a famous rapper is hard enough as it is - since hip hop is so obsessed with 'started from the bottom' (not like Drake, I mean the ACTUAL bottom), someone who has grown up priviliged will automatically struggle to get taken seriously, to the point some of this kids may even wish they had been born poor (horrible attitude tbh). Being the offspring of a laughing stock like Benzino must be even harder. I can only imagine if North West attempted a rap career - having America's most hated woman and hip hops most hated man for parents. The amount of bullying she must receive in school is unimagineable.

I think coi leray down line will a nice person to remember by but I will admit it's early September 2023 and I was absolutely surprised that she dropped an album in June this year. Like nobody talked about 😅 I do agree with the dua lupa comparison because I didn't even know who dua lupa was until the barbie movie promotion but I bet I know every word to levitating which is kinda crazy and unbelievable
Wouldn't say I'm a fan of her necessarily but 2 songs off the album I genuinely enjoyed were Run It Up & Man's World. I feel like the latter could be a hit with the great sample and chorus but thats just my opinion. I think there was a few other songs I didn't mind, but they're not in my playlist so they didn't make the cut lol

Trendsetter is still up on TH-cam if you want to go back and listen to it. I am a fan mainly I listen to coi and a couple of the singles and remixes. I have been listening to the ep. I like the electronic vibe but that's my taste. The ep tells an interesting story.
Idk her music, but I believe that you did "look into the lyrics enough". What I mean by that is, if you giving this album a good listen aint put the point across, the point falls flat. You shouldn't have to do a deep dive on the lyrics to understand the point. Now thats not to say having lyrics you got to dig into makes it fall flat, not at all. But you should dig into the lyrics for things like hidden meaning and context. Things like that. You shouldn't have to dig deep for the PURPOSE of it, that should be loud and clear for an artist in this space.
Lets just accept that ALBUM sales in general is an old metric. Whos buyin a whole album when the amount of filler is rising and streaming makes it easy to pick and choose the good tracks

I listen to a few songs on repeat. My only problem with the album is that it feels like she's trying to make club music. "Don't Chat Me Up," "Spend It," and "Get Loud" all feel like club music.

I agreed with everything you summarized about Coi Leray however I think you kinda have a misunderstanding on how first week streams work now, the structure has changed. The simple explanation is they don’t count singles released before the album release for first week calculations but it goes into the total streams … so honestly 2nd week totals is what tells the story so I think this album is already Gold
They do count them, they just don’t count the streams that were accumulated before the album releases.
