Hi Chris and Cretex Team. I have a quick question. I see in your videos that you use several spray guns. I have seen the LPH 80 used often, especially in the how-to's in which you show a specific product and how to use/reduce it and its properties. In this one though, that you are not painting on a sheet of plastic/paper/metal but on a product itself, I see you using the TH2. I Work with small to medium objects, ranging from collector toys to motorcycle helmets and cosplay customes and am deciding whether to get LPH80 or TH2. Which one do you guys recommend?
Between the two, and with an adequate air source, the LPH-80 is more versatile. Both are great, but the LPH-80 is a must have. For Createx paints, use the E4 cap. Thank you
would the 4200 and 4300 series be able to be used in the same way using the 4050 gloss as a adhesion coat and then spraying those over the top and then the 4050 on the top?
4050 UVLS gloss clear and AutoBorne 6000 Transparent Sealer are the only clears we recommend as an adhesive ground-coat direct plastics. 4030 Balancing Clear works as well, but not as well as 450 nor 6000 as an adhesion promoter. Also recommended for painting a remote control is adding 4030 or 4050 105 per volume to either Createx Airbrush Colors or Wicked Colors, which are then thinned with 4011 Reducer. Thank you.
This clear coat helps with keeping paint from peeling and water resistant? In other words, does it protect the paint? I have a portable blender and the branding is peeling because of the water when I wash it… will brushing a coat of this protect the letters/branding from peeling off completely??? Thank You in advance 🙏
A clear coat, such as UVLS Clears, protects paint from damage and physical markings. Its does not fix lack of adhesion of the underlying paint. The paint must be thoroughly dried and well adhered to the primer or substrate prior to applying the top-coat clear. Thank you.
Love the look. I am working on a project. The base coat is a custom color high heat (500 degree engine enamel), sprayed over 1/8th” thick x 12” diameter carbon steel. The base has 4 coats, that were scuffed and leveled to achieve that smooth mirror like gloss. The project is a custom airbrushed soldering “bench” to be used with the Quadhands flexible magnetic arms, and the customers race team logo (2”x2” shield vinyl decal). The artwork is going to be done with a hand cut stencil of a circular “blowout” pattern similar to a torn/ripped metal pattern, with cobalt and lighter blue electrical arcs (similar to blue lightning) emanating from the logo outward that give the appearance of the logo arcing causing the blowout. I’m using Createx Wicked colors along with Createx pearl, maybe some Candy2o (undecided on that yet). I don’t want to scuff the base coat now because I won’t be able to cleanly match and level the color coat edges of the airbrush artwork. I’m thinking of using the 4050 as you did as an adhesion coat directly onto the base color, or use clear auto borne sealer as an adhesion coat. I will be seal coating each layer of the artwork, and if I decide to use the Candy2o, I’ll use the 4040 bleed checker over each Candy2o layer, finishing off with at least three coats of the 4050 clear. I want to achieve a nice level, gloss surface with good depth, and enough clear topcoat with durability to protect the underlying artwork from the use of the magnetic arms and solder material getting onto the surface. If the top coat is marred or lightly scratched, It should be able to be buff polished if the customer wants. What are your thoughts? Thanks D-Dub
Thank you for inquiring about technique. Both UVLS Gloss Clear and 6000 AutoBorne Sealer can be used as inter-coat. Your use of inter-coat after each color coat and 4040 Bleed Checker after each candy2o coat is unusual; we highly recommend a test panel before doing this. Additionally, for optimum durability and repair-ability with the 4050 UVLS Clear, more than 3 coats, each applied 1 mil thick with adequate re-coat time in between is important; we'd recommend perhaps 2 sessions, each 3 coats / 1 mil thick. For more assistance, please email us at info@createxcolors.com.
A soft-touch clear is best applied over a standard gloss clear which will have more durability. really it depends upon the application and how much touching / abuse the paintjob will be exposed to. The most durable is soft-touch clear applied over a 2k gloss clear. Thank you.
Chris, another great vid! I had a question about your Th2. It looks like you have an adapter to mount a larger paint cup on the TH2. Can you provide a link to that adapter? I have been trying to find it and so far no luck.I have a regular spray gun, and airbrushes, but since I do quite a few smaller projects, I think the TH2 with the larger cup would really work for me. Thanks for all the great instruction. You and Craig F. are great at doing "showing how to's".
Hi! I just started airbrushing controllers. Is there any chance you could explain the prepping a little more in depth. It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! :)
For more information about paint preparation, please refer to our Hard-Surface Application Guide, available at www.creatextech.com. When using Createx paints, starting with AutoBorne Sealer or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear is recommended after scuffing the plastic with 300 - 400 grit sandpaper or a coarse scuff pad. Clean before sanding with soap & water, then after sanding with a solvent-based degreaser such as PPG SX-320. Thank you.
I’m painting a very large scale RC plane in Fiberglass. (3.6 m long) There is lots of details in the molding that I don't want to lose. I want to ensure maximum adhesion but avoid using a primer if I can. Would I gain any adhesion in theory by spraying 4050 before I go to Autoborne Sealer? There is going to be a fair amount of masking after the ground color is on (Sealer Silver + Aluminium medium with 4050. ) Thank you!
4050 UVLS Gloss Clear works well as an adhesion promoter. Not required on Lexan / polycarbonate, but if you wish to go the extra mile for adhesion, applying 4050 first works. For more, please refer to our 2021 Hard Surface Application Guide at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
I currently customize gaming controllers. I'm thinking of using a better clear coat but am unsure of what will be the most durable. Automotive clear coat was my first option but I do not have a HVLP spray gun, and a 2k clear coat in a can would be too expensive to use per controller since order #s arent consistent. I'm looking into using this product, but in a matte finish. How durable is it on a daily used controller? Will it soften from oils on the hands over time? Is it scratch and sweat resistant? I'm looking to increase the longevity of my products, so it would be of great help!
UVLS Clears, including 4052 Matte, are durable, exterior-grade clears well-suited for high-use applications such as a controller. For best results on a controller used daily with lots of Cheetos-junk on your hands mixed with sweat, do 2 applications of clear, perhaps 3 coats initially, allow 4 hours/ overnight to cure (dry-sand flat any imperfections if needed) then 2 - 3 more coats. The clear will best lay down as a medium coat with a spray-gun or mini spray-gun. Thank you.
We recommend only adding reducer to paint intended for spraying within a 48-hour window. Keep the paint capped air tight at all times unless pouring paint. For more, please refer to the UVLS Clears tech sheet available at www.uvlsclears.com. Thank you.
Yes, this process will work direct to the Stihl factory finish . For application , please review the Hard Surface Application Guide pdf , available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
Awesome work! How’s sturdy is the 4050 ?. I’m gonna plaint my own controlar but I wonder how durable is the top coat if I’m constantly handling the controller. Also I have a Iwata hp-cs eclipse I believe the needle is too small for that clear right?

Hye guys, can I follow this process to spray Oakley Jawbreakers? What psi would u guys recommend if I'm using Iwata Eclipse HPCS and Createx Airbrush Colors?
Yes. PSI is generally going to be 27 - 33 psi. Mixing 4050 ~ 20% per volume with Createx Airbrush colors, then thinning ~ 15% - 20% per volume with 4011 Reducer should work very well for the Oakleys. For more, please refer to our Hard-Surface Application guide, available at www.creatextech.com. Thank you.
I have a TH1 so sliiightly smaller Nozzle I know V.Fraser uses it alot. 4050 reduced 25% with 4011 , Candy Mixed to taste with 4050 reduced by 20% , then cleared , then 800 sanded , then cleared. Is that right ?
4050 and candy2o are mixed at varying ratios depending upon the application, usually 4050 6:1 candy2o. Here, candy2o Tealiscous was added as a tint to the 4050 already mixed and used as the adhesion coat, which was reduced with 4011 Reducer. Most often, when spraying candy2o as a saturated color (not a tint) with a large airbrush or spray-gun, thinning with 4011 Reducer is often not required. Thank you.
I have some misunderstanding towards the end. So did you sand or not that dust part? Anyway r eally love all your videos, very informative. Keep it up guys.
