If I could only put into words what I feel about this intro, I think everyone in the world would find this the best intro ever as well. This game series literally changed my life as a kid, particularly this intro!
26 minutes of cutscenes in just a 256 Kilobytes game cartridge. Is amazing, how they get you inside the plot with a few animations and midi music. Today we have games with 60GB+ and 0 plot (and horribly boring).
I love how the first scene meeting with robert, it recreates the scene of part 1 where Irene shoots ryu at the bar, I know everybody is fooled into thinking ryu was going to get knocked out again.
Sigh..memories at their best. First and only Ninja Gaiden game played and finished. It was ahead of its time. Btw for most reoccurring phase award, hands down goes to.. Ryu Hayabusa :"What the.."😁
+highlander723 When I played this game long ago, I didn't even realized he died, but now I see the blood coming out of his mouth. Yeah, he pretty much died, or was at least gravely wounded.
The Jaquio's part in this story always seemed a bit murky to me. The best I can make out of it: - Ashtar sent Jaquio on a fools errand to resurrect the demon of the first game with the true purpose of drawing out a champion of good that would worthy sacrifice to the Sword of Chaos (Ryu in this case). - Jaquio figured this out and played it to his advantage by arranging to have the demon's soul absorbed into his own body after it was inevitably slain. Thus allowing him to be reborn an immortal himself. At which point he could just sit back in hiding, wait to see who came out on top between Ashtar and Ryu, then make his own move. - Things didn't work out for him. He was killed again, his own blood became used in place of Ryu's and his body was used as a sacrificial host for a new, more powerful demon to grow out of. Which Ryu promptly kills and que happy ending sequence...
Nice analisys. I always wondered about the relation between Jaquio and Ashtar, the dialogues did not help too much.... Jaquio says something like "the spirit you have defeated before was a pawn". Who exactly he mean? His previous body? Ashtar? Who was supervising all ot this?
1:41 This plays right after clearing the first boss and the "camera move" along with the triumphant mid tempo always struck me as the developers just laying it on the table: "NINJA GAIDEN is BACK, it's still the best action game in the world, and we're just STYLING on Konami and Capcom at this point."
I gotta wonder how much of the jank was from early japanese to english translations? The rest of it I assume is just because of how they needed to make each cutscene cool, informative of the story, and have it all feel snappy and quick between levels. Gotta keep that dialogue line length short to fit on the screen and not have the player scrolling through endless dialogue! Like a "narrative-essentialism" kind of writing style?
Funny thing is the SNES remake censored the Jaquio's blood to green (as well as removing his chest pentagram) and yet got away with using an old version of Ninja Gaiden 1's script the translated scripts in which both Ryu and Jaquio say some minor swear words (damn and hell).
This story is AMAZING, back in 1989 there was nothing more incredible! I'd say this game was a huge influence on games and movies. Also not that many Japanese anime where popular this is very rare
And this is the only game in which the characterization is ideal. No words are enough to describe. Gameplay, Cutscenes, Soundtracks and Characters, all are incredible !!
4:10 - So a really evil dude pulls out his long sword, points it at Ryu and says "Take that!" and Ryu just stands there and takes it? In the first game they had him fall down a trap door,. This time . . . they got a little lazy. (Also, if the US Army knows that the fate of the world is riding on this, couldn't they give Rob some backup, instead of sending him on a really dangerous solo mission with just a pistol?) Still a fun game though. And the beginning is badass.
I beat both 1 and 2. I never played 3, by that point I stopped playing video games. I have to say that as good as this one was, it wasn't nearly as good as the first one. It was almost as if it were the same game, only lesser. Still, thanks for posting this.
I loved this game so long ago as well as the first one. Cutscenes are great but some think they're bad including supposedly Spielberg. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutscene#Criticism But it's a stupid complaint since one can simply skip over the cutscenes if they don't like them just like speed runners do. The cutscenes are what made this series so good to actually play and enjoy. They enhance the story.
11:41 Best cutscene in the trilogy
For me its the best intro ever!
If I could only put into words what I feel about this intro, I think everyone in the world would find this the best intro ever as well. This game series literally changed my life as a kid, particularly this intro!
Same here bro
7:03 Act V, Going Gets Tough plays
14:54 too, Robert cracks smile - deserved that Ninja Gaiden 3 RE cameo fr

For That Era...These Cutscenes We're Definitely Ahead Of Their Time👌🏾😎💯👍🏾
I love how the first scene meeting with robert, it recreates the scene of part 1 where Irene shoots ryu at the bar, I know everybody is fooled into thinking ryu was going to get knocked out again.
Yeah, I feel for that one the first time I saw it.

Too much for 8 bits. This is a masterpiece.
Yes sir . 👏 I remember staying up all night doing speed runs 🏃♀️
4:43 I love how Ashstar was just mildly annoyed about getting shot in the back.
16:07 "Somehow, Jaquio returned."
The part where Robert Dies still makes me tear up...
+highlander723
When I played this game long ago, I didn't even realized he died, but now I see the blood coming out of his mouth. Yeah, he pretty much died, or was at least gravely wounded.
it had 6 more minutes of cinema than 1 and 3
dude it pissed me off so bad when i first saw ashtar stab irene
first blood ive ever seen in a video game
Yes, and in the end it's unclear whether he has saved or not :(
I remember being a kid in 4th grade forcing all of my friends to re-enact that intro cutscene with me 😂😂😂
Ah memories, they feed the soul 🙏🏾

I'm still confused, after all these years, as to exact storyline behind Jaquio's return and his relation to Ashtar. Someone please help!
I felt so too. That’s a pretty good explanation!
That's the best summary of the villains motivations I've read! I never thought too deeply about it as a kid.
Nice analisys. I always wondered about the relation between Jaquio and Ashtar, the dialogues did not help too much.... Jaquio says something like "the spirit you have defeated before was a pawn". Who exactly he mean? His previous body? Ashtar? Who was supervising all ot this?
Yeah, fun game but the storyline is kind of murky.
8:24 Oh wtf is going on there!
Mr. Atari 2600 Avgn reference and I’m just now realizing what he meant by that
She’s just tying his shoe laces 😅
Still have that cartdridge for NES, such an incredible game, a lot of story, just like Golgo 13. Thanks for the video...
@440. When I was little kid. That scene when Robert saves Ryu. It was the best
It’s like s 8 bit anime short.
Shots fired during the cutscenes. I love it.
Cutscene 11 always hyped me up when I was younger
8:37 tecmo are you sure it’s kid friendly?
08:25 XD
Nope then she slowly go down while Ryu slowly moves forward 😱
Kids friendly 🤣💯
Robert TS: "Who the heck?!"
Just look at how big and menacing Jacquio looks when he appears in front of Irene and Robert.
1:41 This plays right after clearing the first boss and the "camera move" along with the triumphant mid tempo always struck me as the developers just laying it on the table: "NINJA GAIDEN is BACK, it's still the best action game in the world, and we're just STYLING on Konami and Capcom at this point."
"Old Jungle Rat" Rob

Its stupid that they made ashtar from the king of darkness to a weak little peanut boss.
What the......!
This game is a work of art 👏 It's like a noir comic type of story telling, which is impressive for the nes.
2021 still memories for me
I can't think of a better soundtrack for a game, Zelda II is amazing but this is a close second
Gran leyenda y juegazo increíble
8:00 Ashtar stabbing the girl in the back 7 years before Sephiroth.
Yeah, some of the lines were janky, but a few tweaks here and there and you'd have game that would make an excellent movie.
I gotta wonder how much of the jank was from early japanese to english translations? Has anyone noticed that Rob smiles when he dies?
Look at all the blood in this game . . . years before Nintendo made such a stink about Mortal Kombat.
Funny thing is the SNES remake censored the Jaquio's blood to green (as well as removing his chest pentagram) and yet got away with using an old version of Ninja Gaiden 1's script the translated scripts in which both Ryu and Jaquio say some minor swear words (damn and hell).
Grandísimo clásico 👍
Music is very catchy
Irene got it seven years before aerith did.
"....
There."
What the...?
Incredible
It’s a crime you didn’t include the end credits 👮🏻♂️🚓
" . . . . ! ? "
Ryu and Irene never married? Needs a true sequel
Ryu is the Best!
So, how did Irene not die by being stabbed by Ashtar's sword?
Probably a minor wound. That and Robert promptly patched her up between cutscenes.
She doesn't die instantly, but I'm pretty sure she bleeds out by the end, and Ryu sacifices his Dragon Sword to bring her back.
She just got the tip. 😉😇
Thanks a lot for uploading !!

I absolutely agree with u and I am very fortunate because I have played such an Awesome and Badass game (y).
Sanchit Malik It was the first game to have "cut scenes"
I never realized just how many cutscenes were in this game. shit makes me want to buy an NES and relive my youth.
And this is the only game in which the characterization is ideal. No words are enough to describe. Gameplay, Cutscenes, Soundtracks and Characters, all are incredible !!
Sequel of original Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden 2 Nes is NEVER released on Europe !
You euros missed out
@@patsommers7777 it was released in Europe under the name "Shadow Warriors II" but it's a rather rare cartridge.
The JACQUIO!!!!
0:00 A friend invited me for dinner with this link - i'll be sharpening my teeth b4 i go 😎
8:20 ouch !
Finally we know the Duke Nukem's first name : Robert 😉
4:10 - So a really evil dude pulls out his long sword, points it at Ryu and says "Take that!" and Ryu just stands there and takes it? In the first game they had him fall down a trap door,. This time . . . they got a little lazy.
