Well.... It was a different time. The years 1991 to 1996 are to me the most fun in terms of everyday life. If we are talking computers, then the periode from 1983 to 1997 are the most awesomme years ever. The best year are 1991, as march to august are the months were Amiga and x86 with dos, was equally good. And you were still able to use Commodore64 and Atari-800 machines as daily drivers. I fully agree with you, that the early 1990's were the absolute best years. Tech was awesomme and you did not need to be online and be reach-able all the time. Things were just better. Forget the 1960's, 1970's and the 00's and 10's.

I've been using LCDs for so long that I forgot that CRTs had a warm-up time where you could barely see anything after turning it on. IIRC that was one of the reasons for screen savers - turning it on and off often reduced screen's lifetime.

While 90s pc's disappeared from homes years ago, out in the world of business and industry you still sometimes come across an old one like this running some piece of machinery or such like. It's never been replaced because it never had to be. It can become a problem because the knowledge base of people who know how to troubleshoot them is dwindling, which means when they do fuck up it can be a problem. In 2016 IIRC the largest airport in Paris was shut down for a couple days, because a computer that supplied weather data to planes crashed. It then turned out that said computer was decades old and still running Windows 3.1. Which by that point was so far behind what was current, that it took a while to find somebody who could fix it.

I know the exact sensation of this process. Except our case wasn’t that nice - it was a former business machine, so very drab. Lol

I remember when I was 12 I got my first computer. An old computer from school, but still. The school awarded me a computer.

I remember turning on my dad's media center which was loaded with Windows XP, hearing it boot up, the hard drive sounds, the start up sounds! The days!

Ahh man, I need to upload a Windows XP boot video. I have tons of computers and out of all the oses I've tried and seen, XP has to be my favourite. It's simple and reliable and it looks really good. It has a really charming look.

@@AxecraftMCPE It was my introduction to computers too! At that time I've just gotten internet at home and it was revolutionary, it was really fast even in my old Pentium III computer. A couple of years later I got an Xbox 360 which got me into gaming.
