Getting into retro gaming (games I grew up with from my childhood are now considered retro) and I definitely agree that everyone should try to repaste any console over 8-10 years old. That way it’ll last longer and I’m a play-on-original-hardware type of guy.
iv'e also recently taken to repasting all of my older systems, repasting my 360 slim was probably one of the most dramatic results with my exhaust feeling a good 10-20F hotter (meaning better transfer)
@@Weighted-Earmuffs linus tech tips has done Q&A's about watercooling on pc's and noted they would increase ambient room temp as you exhaust would be warmer due to better heat transfer, i imagine the same would be for air cooling. i always figured if the exhaust is warm the chip is cool as the heat is being moved outside the chip. (trust me, i gobbed it up with paste)
Lost a Trinity 360 from E82 before I could mod it, thank God I checked before I started modding it. It's thermal paste application looks just like this. Gonna repaste my Trinity Reach special edition and rgh that one. Incredible how they missed the entire copper core of the heatsink Update: All done and rocking. I used Artic MX 4 I need a bigger hard drive though lol
Nah, thermal paste will always dry out eventually whether it's a CPU, GPU on a PC or SOC on a console. The alternative is liquid metal which lasts longer but is much harder and more expensive to install and replace and you have to redo it if you take off the cooler. It's also electrically conductive so someone could accidently cause a short and damage the console. Thermal paste is stupid cheap (like 6- 10 bucks gets you enough for like a decade of reapplications).

Can't beat original hardware.
But duckstation is pretty close...

That means worse transfer buddy should run cooler. You probably didn't add enough.

@@Weighted-Earmuffs if it were cooler exhaust that would mean that the heat is not dissapating correctly.
I just bought a 360 in 2020 😬 it’s a jasper which I’ve heard is the most reliable. I want to add thermal paste to keep it around for a while.
who told you the jasper is the most reliable? beat him with a stick
It is reliable and yes new paste is a good idea
360 japsers have smaller CPU GPU chips uses less power
Less power=less heat

What brand of thermal paste do you recommend for Xbox 360
Any is fine it doesn't matter
For me I personally use arctic MX 4 or arctic MX 2
bro, how often i should replace thermal paste Xbox 360 slim? and is it enough if i only change replace in the top?
interesting, do you reckon this is a case of planned obsolescence or do you think they just cheaped out?
lol
