    I flew this in X-Plane 11/12, in VR. One of my favorite aircrafts in the game, basically. Very good for sightseeing. The speed is not bad, while you it is not a jet and you won't fly from London to Rome in this, you can cover a lot of distance fairly quickly.

    This form of transport suffers from inevitable drag so adding a wing is increasing the drag - or is there some fiendish setting to slow the rotor whilst in horizontal flight?

    I like the aerodynamic duel mast. I so wonder about the usefulness of the wings specifically the amount of lift they provide at what speed. If this is negligible then the extension of the winglets past the support of the beams is only there for style. The use of the beams to blend the horizontal stabilizer with the necessary vertical stabilizer size to deal with the cockpit size. The faired rotor head is nice. The attention to eliminating parasitic drag is great to see. I wonder what the rotor rpm is at max gross? What is the method of pre rotation?

    So with the wings, does that not detract from the stability of a gyro in high wind/cross winds? That’s one of the biggest pluses to a gyro is the lack of instability that high wind conditions create due to more surface area. Gyros are known to be able to fly in conditions that would ground fixed wing aircraft.

    Sounds well built and looks kinda cool and like I've said before, it's very interesting that the concept works, it's very counter intuitive that a motorless rotor produces full lift but ultimately it just serves as a wing and I can't help conclude that a straight wing could achieve similar stall speeds yet have higher top speeds and better fuel economy etc.
    One interesting takeaway is that they are pusher prop configs which looks much cooler and that you could attach a wing instead of the rotor and retain that configuration. A front nose prop is actually a quite displeasing arrangement even though most don't question it. Perhaps an interesting confluence could be to use a smaller diameter prop so as to not need gearing, put it in a duct to perhaps improve it's efficiency when lower diameter and this also make the tail boom fit better and sort of looks like a jet. A fair bit of potential there I think. Of course using actual turbofan jets is that significant step more elegant and capable still. Where it becomes dramatically more capable. And even though many are by default opposed to new thinking, I'm quite sure most would be ear to ear grinning when flying such a thing.

      The point is being more manueverable, of course it's less efficienct and slower than a regular airplane. Pusher propellers have been used in many aircraft in the past succesfully, but it isn't the trend anymore, same for ducts. Jets for this kind of aircraft are too costly and different from other engines, requiring a very different design.

    • @DanFrederiksen
      @DanFrederiksen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vitordelima a jet is quite simple, you are basing the conclusion on price on incorrect intuition. there are no such small jet engines. they could be very inexpensive because it's such a light aircraft, not the typical 4 ton jets that are called very light. It's literally 10 times lighter. always question status quo and never blindly assume status quo is sage. certainly not for the awful state that GA is in where WW2 aircraft are still being produced.

    Over the years I've done quite a bit of research on Gyroplanes, and like most things have good and bad points. The bad points are most are unable to fly much weight, and the second bad point would be they are relatively slow. On the plus side they are easy to fly, and "engine out" scenario can be a non event as auto rotation will take you safely to the ground providing you have at least a little space to land. The downside is for the size and speed they are fairly expensive where models like the Cavelon easily go over 100k+ and I'm sure this example is no exception 200k+. Part of the reason of the cost is the power plant. I appears Rotax has a corner on the market and a 140hp engine costs over 40 grand. Many in aviation would not think these costs are very high, but to many just getting into aviation and who might consider a gyroplane, are out of reach for most. The used market is one way to get one cheaper, but since most are experimental one is trusting the previous owner and builder put it together correctly. It doesn't appear the Tensor has a certified option so the owner is expected to put together 50% of it. All in all this is another variation on the well known gyro theme, and applaud the work and craftsmanship that has gone into this, but considering the price expect we will hear little about this gyroplane in the future. After all, one can buy a Cavelon for 1/2 the price for around the same performance and other various characteristics, so unless you just have money laying around and want something that looks "cool".

    • @BuceGar
      @BuceGar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Engines has always been one of the most expensive aspects of aircraft ownership. It would be nice if an automotive manufacturer started competing in this space, something like light weight, well-built, proven Honda and Toyota engines for a fraction of the price.
      I know there is a aftermarket company that already replaces aircraft engines with automotive engines, so it's clearly possible, but it'd be nice if there was a ready-fit solution with some high quality engineering and testing behind it.

    When I lived in the Washington, DC area, would've been SO Much fun to fly one of these from College Park (small airport) to Cumberland, MD (smaller airport), where a friend lived. Not sure the Cumberland folks would've ever seen one before & might have wanted to thoroughly check it out & asked me many questions about it. Eventually, would've had to say to them, "Sorry, but I have a ribs & sides platter waiting for me at "When Pigs Fly." If you want to continue this conversation, come with me" LOL

    What are the wings for? Rotorcraft don't need them to fly.

      If it has a fixed rotor hub then it would need wings with ailerons. This was the case with early versions of this type of aircraft, nearly 100 years ago.

      @@Rick-ve5lx Yes, I understand that, but you can see that the aircraft has standard push-pull control rods to the rotor head.

      @@syramento You’re right, I didn’t see them the first time. I don’t know what the wings are for either.
