Hikaru has some pretty emotional reactions out there. Weird thing to watch but its interesting seeing someone be so passionate about what they love.
Over the board chess players will have more mild reactions but Magnus’ reactions in the Opera euro rapid have been a treat so far

Gotta love how after Gary moves and before Anand moves, Gary's eyes go super wide like "oh crap don't see it don't see it don't see it"
That's me basically every 5 blitz games, I'm king of taking with the wrong piece.
I actually dont think he realised until Anand was about to make his move. Thats when he realised. He missed it but Anand found it first

It looks like the same time his opponents hand goes for the pawn, he realizes then he fucked up and to me it seems like the entire line appeared in cranium at once.
Lol at 5:28 you can pinpoint the exact moment his heart rips in half. If you go frame by frame it's so funny. Vishy's hand hovers over the black pawn, Garry's eyebrows raise, then you see him glance back to white's queen and his eyes just bulge out of his head lol. You can tell Vishy was thinking about whether or not it was a good move while his hand was hovering over the pawn, and I think Garry's face helps convince him, because shortly after Garry's eyes pop out of his skull Vishy snatches the pawn and moves his queen so quickly lol

Amazing how the perception of time has changed in a few years... In the 90's 40 secs left on a clock was panicked, nowadays Nakamura with 40 seconds left chats online, eats a meal, plays a puzzle rush and THEN casually plays 40 moves....
Playing online with 40sec is so much different from the real otb
Cause in otb chess you can't premove. So no matter how fast you move you have to spend at the very least 1 move per sec which is not the case in online
Just as good as Gary's blunder reaction is his dramatic exit lol

No, it's not just chess. Chess is some people's career, art, legacy, and life. It may be just chess to you, but it means everything to these grand masters who've spent their entire lives mastering the game. It's totally understandable to be upset when you make a stupid mistake in an important tournament you've spent days, weeks, or months preparing for.

Sure, his edge isn’t there anymore, but he is still a world-class chess player nonetheless.
@@str1ker_eureka I tend to think it is because Kasparov stopped competitive chess entirely whereas Vishy kept playing. There r other great players that kept playing competitive chess into their old age because they didnt stop playing. Whereas people who stop completely drop off a ton.

This is the reaction that my dad have, when I was young boy, and Then I first time win in chess with him, in front of our big family whose came to us on litle holidays. Mostly I was always loooooosing this game, but once in a while I have my litle-big victories... Like Anand have in this game :-)
