      I was stoked that I got that one like that! That’s always the dream. Lord knows I wander, ramble, and then delete half the footage because it just doesn’t always happen like that, as much as I can hope or try. I always wanna catch that instant energy burst I feel, but often miss because I have to pull the phone out to start filming, and in that slight moment… something natural is always lost. Thanks for tuning in, yet again! Can’t wait to get on that gold!!

    Loving that handsome agate at 8:20.
    I'll be headed to Arizona the first couple weeks in October myself - I'll be hunting fire agates with my cousin's kids - maybe we'll see you out there! Travel safe!

      I just hope I didn’t actually miss one! 🤣 what general area of Arizona are you headed down to? I’m not far from Oatman which has some fire agate.

      @@waywardwoodward We'll actually be passing through AZ twice on this trip - We're visiting relatives in Phoenix, so we're going to just take the kids to Saddle Mountain and 4th of July Peak the first couple days in October. Then we're headed to Barstow, CA to hunt plume agates and such near Lavic until the 5th. After that we're popping up to Vegas (my mother needs her casino fix as badly as she needs her rock hounding! LOL) then back down through Laughlin to Sedona, and eastward toward New Mexico, near the Black Hills area. So we will pass pretty close to Oatman on the return trip briefly. If it looks like we'll get time to swing by and hunt a bit, I'll let you know. If not, I'm definitely making a pass through South Dakota next Spring/Summer and I'm for sure going to hit you up before I come to see what's going on and when.

    Great video & tips and the "Blue" gem! It seems like the percentage of Quartz is very high in this area, is that one of the clues or keys for areas you focus on?

    • @waywardwoodward
      @waywardwoodward  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You bet that’s one of the tips! 🤫 Some areas around Fairburn, some spots at Railroad Buttes, out by Indian Creek in the bluffs and a few other places have this layer. Some folks call it the sugar layer, I call my the candy quartz layer just because I’ve seen many candy gems come from it. I talk to a lot of people who don’t like that layer simply because there is more quartz matrix than other stones so it seems less likely to have fairburns, and is tougher on the eyes for some folks. It’s very weird to hunt compared to say, the agate beds behind French creek where it’s lots of other kinds stones and not as much quartz. Although, the hillside visible from the campground, due north of the creek crossing has a small layer of this sugar/candy quartz showing and most people don’t notice it. 🕵🏻‍♂️ Poke around though and these layers are hiding around many valleys, some of them carry small rock, some carry larger stuff, some spots only have a few rocks, some spots the rocks are just pouring out of the hillsides as it erodes, but they definitely carry the Fairburns along the way. Thanks for tuning in, and good eye! 🕵🏻‍♂️

    Man, they sure come small, dont they? But like they say big things come in small packages! With your closeups of the search I keep seeing what I think are other good ones. NO! backup, right there on the lef...... nevermind!

      @waywardwoodward  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They always amaze me how so much can happen in such a tiny stone. I just might have missed one along the way, because I was going over stuff a bit fast, but these ole eagle eyes generally won’t miss the good ones. I think? 🤔 I hope! 😳 Thanks for tuning in! 💪

      @waywardwoodward  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howdy! They ain’t easy to find, that’s for sure. Took me 3 years to find my first. People often forget that they are a rare gem. As for helping out, I’m not in SD currently as I spent my winters in AZ. If you’re on Facebook, the fairburn agate groups are a great place to start, as well as find out a lot of info and meet some folks who might be able to help put ya on the good stuff. Best luck out there!
