    Something awesome I realised about this was to do with the names.
    Mars is the Roman God of War.
    Phobos is the Greek God of Fear.
    Deimos is the Greek God of Terror.
    Where War goes; Fear and Terror follow.

    QUICK CORRECTION: We said in the video that Jupiters gravity probably "pushed" the asteroids out of the Asteroid Belt. The wording was pretty bad and lots of you got confused. What we meant was that Jupiters huge gravity interfered with the orbit of the asteroid belt and consequently slingshot some asteroids out of it. And by chance Mars was at the right place on the right time to "catch" them (meaning they couldn't escape Mars' gravity and started to orbit it). Gravity can't "push" something like we animated it in the video - sorry we didn't make this clear enough!

I bought "Three ways to end the universe" a couple of months ago and sent a pm to him thanking him for such awesome music. And then he replied thanking me back and gave me the music of "Who invented the internet" as a gift.

    The idea that Mars may have a ring one day makes me feel oddly happy. I think planetary rings are one of the coolest features a planet can have even if it's thin or dangerous. Not having a ring and suddenly developing one out of a moon you couldn't keep anyways is kind of like magically growing wings imo

      @Nam Nguyễn Hoàng look man I love Saturn just as much as anyone else, I mean ffs it’s literally so popular it has its own emoji 🪐, but all planets are pretty. Plus rings aren’t even that uncommon in the solar system lots of planets have them, Saturn’s rings are just the most famous lol. Besides it’s not like it would be competing with Saturn, Saturn’s rings are so famous because of how bright and big they are. Mars’ rings would be small and simple 🤷‍♀️ trust me no ones going to be forgetting about it once Mars gets rings too

    Mars has enough elongated craters near the equator to suggest the planet is the cosmic equivalent of a serial killer. It's been estimated that up to about two hundreds of asteroids that the planet had previously captured as moons ended up smashing themselves to bits on its surface.

    Fun Fact:
    Deimos is the personification of terror Greek mythology. He was a son of Ares (in greek "Άρης" is the planet Mars) and Aphrodite, and the twin brother of Phobos. Phobos means "fear" in greek.

    If the diameter of Deimos is 6 km, then it's surface area should be around 113 sq. km (Surface area of a sphere).
    Of course, it's not a sphere, but how is the surface area 483 sq. km?! (More than 4 times!)

    • @Detoyato
      @Detoyato 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Because a sphere is the shape that has the least surface area compared to volume. Any deviation of shape from it will increase the surface area and if the object is terribly malformed and riddled with impact craters then it's surface area would balloon to much over that of when it's a sphere.

    • @Tanish-Jain
      @Tanish-Jain 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I looked it up. Looks like the diameter of Deimos is 11-12 km. Perhaps they were talking about the radius?
      The calculation also works out: I get 452 if I take 12 km as the diameter.
