When you also account for cost of goods inflation, the same goods should cost quite a bit over $200. They stayed at a pretty constant $2.00-$2.75 range with minor fluctuations. Perhaps it was more noticeable in higher-cost areas, like Manhattan Island and SF?

I feel like I'm making the money I did when I was out of high-school working at McDonald's. I feel more poor now than I did before covid when I was making half of what I make today. There's an article out called "Why is Snopes Helping Clean up the "Very Fine People" Scandal?" And it, predictably, REMOVES the relevant context of the quote. So unless people actually go to Snopes to read the full quote. they'll just believe that Snopes got it wrong.

I legit want to commend CNN. This was the most professional debate I have seen in a long while. No blatant trick questions. No jumping in to argue with the candidates. Ask question. Restate question. Good time management.

I thought the debate moderation was, OVERALL, fair and balanced. That is, until I watched it again. Keep in mind, Jake Tapeworm said at the very beginning "A bag of groceries back then cost $100, and now it costs $120." That wasn't ignorance, stupidity, an accident, or bad information. That was calculated, intentional, absolute defense of Biden and his administration (probably just his administration, the man is a walking corpse). I challenge you to tell me I'm wrong about that.
Also, they kept cutting his mic or telling him, "Thank you, Mr. President" every time he was boxed in to a logical corner and/or started rambling/inventing a new language.

I'm all for social safety networks - that are barebones. Everyone falls on hard times, and when a society has such a surplus of goods, services, food, etc as we do, then yes you have to give hard working people a parachute when they are kicked off a cliff due to forces outside of their control.
It just pisses me off that literally every day that I go to work, I sustain some type of injury: I get cuts and scrapes, I get bruises, I pull muscles, I get smacked on the head (or, more accurately, smack my head in to something), etc. I make good money doing it, but a damn good chunk of my taxes go to keeping people alive and comfortable who refuse to work, who refuse to contribute to society.
I'm just about ready for the collapse of modern society. I know how to start a fire from scratch, I know herbal medicines, how to forage, how to build a shelter from natural materials in several different biomes, how to hunt and clean and cook various types of game (small, medium, and large). If it gets rid of the parasites, I'm almost willing to suffer a terrible fever that might end up killing me. It would be worth it. The ONLY reservation I have about that scenario is the loss of toilet paper. I know what it's like to have to wipe without it, and good GOD that is awful.

Right when the pandemic began, i bought a home that summer. Family of 4, single income of 18 an hour. And was still able to save money. Now I'm making over 22 an hour, plus my wife is now working at 18 an hour. We don't have any new bills or expenses, yet we can't seem to save any money anymore.

The only moment that I was disappointed in Trump was when he was given 3 opportunities to answer the question “What will you do to help Americans struggling with addiction?” I don’t think he or Biden, or anyone else at that level realize just how vicious these drugs have been on low income America. Whether urban or rural, people are dying left and right. I’m only 35 years old and more than 30 of my classmates have died from OD. We need more investment into recovery programs, and we need to put an end to no bail release for drug dealers. We need a president who will take this issue with the seriousness that it requires. I believe Trump cares, but he needs people around him who understand this issue and the underlying factors that are driving it.

I will sound pompous to say this: I have well above average income. I own two homes and have a seven figure net worth. At the risk of sounding even more douchey, I typically don’t pay attention to what stuff costs. I just buy what I want. Yet, I’ve noticed huge sticker shock when buying things like groceries. A recent trip to Costco, I was blown away when I saw my two boxes of groceries totaled more than $400. I was horrified when I stopped at the pharmacy and my five prescriptions were just over $200. The middle class is getting absolutely wrecked under this administration. I personally think Trump is a jackass. Having said that, I don’t need to like the President. I need a President who works toward establishing a good economy. As I said, I do well but I, along with everyone else is hurting under this President. All he knows is talking points: tax the rich, everything is racist, climate change, etc. I can’t even imagine how people earning an average income (around $60k) are making it right now. If Biden wins, the middle class will finally be finished off and we will be a nation of a few extremely rich (bezos, Zuckerberg, gates, etc.) and everyone else will spend everything we earn just to keep our heads above water. We will literally work just to live from one day to the next.

Well spoken. I myself come from, and am solidly in, the middle class. Wouldn't have it any other way. Sure, I'd like a 7-figure income, but then again I don't want 7-figure headaches, problems, time management, etc. I'm a skilled tradesman, and I live a comfortable life (well, when I'm not getting the shit kicked out of me at work). To my eyes, the only reason you sound pompous is when you say that the average income is around $60k. It's far lower than that, around $45k (unless you're talking about a 2-income household).
I have a couple of members in my family who are 7-figure income earners, and one who is an 8-figure. They almost live at work. Makes me surprised that you actually know the prices at Costco (not being snide or taking a dig at you - everyone I know who earns at your level doesn't do their shopping personally). With that said, you know shit is going sideways when the 1% is willing to say, "Damn, things are kind of fucked up right now."
I'm an independent myself, so I don't care for either major party. With that said, it always gets darkest before the dawn. I'm not expert or fortune teller, but no matter who wins, it's only about 7:00 P.M. on that metaphoric night. Keep doing what you're doing (and if you're making that kind of money by providing jobs to others, THANK YOU), but also start spending some of your very limited time to learn a few things that us plebs have learned through a life of living near the middle/bottom of the economic ladder: dealing with real hardship where money doesn't matter, but your skills for survival do.

His ‘Trump derangement syndrome’ enamored him, and every time I brought him facts, he would rationalize them or start talking about Trump’s faults. It was infuriating, but I felt like I had to keep trying. I am pleased to be able to report that this debate finally turned him around!!!
I know everyone has family members like this, and I know how hard it is, but keep trying and don’t give up y’all. The more of this kind of content they see, the harder it becomes for them to deny the truth!

It might not be all we want, but it’s a step in the right direction, and I think it’s the best we can get right now. I don’t believe a staunch pro-life absolutist candidate could win if he came out and said it during the election. Although it may have the moral high ground, I just don’t think it currently has a sufficiently widespread breadth of support.

But at this point they physically can't replace him as the candidate. There's no candidate to put on the ticket that's won any of the primaries, and the way the states do assert control over the nature of elections, they can't replace him on the ticket without being ineligible in multiple states. As it stands they're going to have to wheel and deal to even get him on the Ohio Ballot because they pushed the DNC back too late in the year, a whole ton of states will not certify a candidate that comes out of the blue at the last minute.....in most states you're already past the file date at this point. Quite literally Biden is their candidate through the election, and they can replace him in late January if they win, that is their only option.
