How IGNORANT the two commenters above me are ! *Anyone* can contract HIV, and it’s not always through sex ! Magic is a GREAT role model for MANY reasons : work ethic, perseverance, winning mindset… and yes, not only helping to educate people about HIV/AIDS, but donating his time, money and personal energies to raise funds for research and providing medications to those in need. (The Magic Johnson Foundation) . Besides, his being SO open and honest about being HIV+ brought the disease to a new level of attention… that lead to a public outcry for govt research funds (when it was “just a gay disease”, it was ignored and thousands died in agony and with no hope). I LOVE MY LARRY BIRD ❤️ ☘️ BIG CELTICS FAN HERE! I WAS 18 IN 1984! WHEN THE CELTICS BEAT THE LAKERS IN THE FINALS! MAGIC I RESPECT YOU AND YOUR GAME! HELLO FROM LOUDOUN COUNTY VIRGINIA 😎
Growing up a Sixers fan Dr. J was my idol and Sixers fans hated Larry Bird but I got to be honest I respected him more than any other player in the league him and Magic
We who grew up in southern Indiana feel the same respect for magic. The only guy I can think of who could play every position on the court at an all star level.
@timmitchell4727 I live 15 miles from MSU, so Magic lore is not new to me. In college, MSU played local rival Central Michigan. CMU is not at the same level as MSU, but that season they had game. CMU's play was the fast break, and they went hard on MSU with it in this game. Coach Heathcote wouldn't play along, depending on his usual set plays as always. But at some point Magic had had enough and all of a sudden MSU became a run and gun team for 20 minutes. They never looked back and buried CMU with their own play book. Little did we know we were seeing what the Prime Time Lakers would become.
LeBron, love him or hate him,is another guy who can play every position. Not just in a pinch like Magic in the finals when Kareem went down. LeBron has been listed officially at every position at one point in his career. I prefer Magic and Bird to LeBron but gotta give him credit where its due. He can also guard 1-5 (at least at some poiny in his career, his defense now isnt as good)
This video talks about an era when I was a big fan of the NBA. No more. I can't remember the last time that I watched a full game. Wouldn't waste a dollar on attending a game.
You don't give Magic enough credit. Magic beat Larry in college, Magic got that 'ring', not Larry, so not only just good with Showtime. Magic won a ring as a ROOKIE. My first pick in an all time draft would be Magic, no doubt in my mind. He made good players great. But I sure wouldn't be crying if it was Bird.
I met Magic Johnson at Iowa City in 1978. I was visiting some friends at the University of Iowa at the Fieldhouse and we were playing basketball. Magic and Gregory Kelser walked in. Magic came up to me with a big smile and asked if we wanted to play Kelsor and him. I nervously declined. They were 2 of the best players in the country. Magic said, "Com on, it'll be fun". I said "fun for you, we'll get slaughtered". He just smiled and walked away. I now realize I should have played just to say I played basketball with Magic Johnson. I was a decent player but none of us were in a league with those two
GREAT VIDEO, I REALLY ENJOYED IT. I'M FORTUNATE TO HAVE SEEN LARRY BIRD PLAY IN PERSON BUT NOT MAGIC JOHNSON. LARRY MUST HAVE HAD A BAD NIGHT, HE ONLY GOT 40 POINTS AT THAT CHARLOTTE, NC GAME. 😉😃😃😃😃
Hi there. No one cares. And no one made an issue out of it except you. And it's not a guilt trip, you just took it the wrong way. And you must be new to TH-cam. Thank you and you are very welcome.
The Magic/Bird era was the best for me. Granted, if I had experienced Bill Russell winning ring after ring after ring, I'd probably think differently. I believe Magic's Showtime Lakers could have beaten anyone. Today's NBA is boring, I can't watch a whole game, doesn't excite me at all. When LeBron came to the Lakers, I stopped being a fan.
@@AnonimusGuyNamedIvan check it out in Wikipedia "Bird's parents were of Irish, Scottish and some Native American descent.[9] He has four brothers and a sister.[10]' They just changed it recently. It used to say he had Native American ancestry from both parents.
@The Juggernaut Of course. My point is to say that all the race talk is silly That's why I put quotes around the word white. Most African American players have English or Scots Irish ancestors, too. When they used to ask Larry about being a "white" player, he used to just say, " I don't see race. Is there something wrong with that?" Great answer.

So lucky to see these two great players play in their prime. Basketball owes a lot to magic and bird
It was nearly Torture, watching these two teams . So many Great players on both Teams .
Magic is a Great, Great man. He transcends sports, he is a wonderful guy, great role model. So is Bird. We were so lucky 🍀
Role model? Well except for the contracting HIV thing.
Role model? What role and what model? If he is not rick, he would die a long time ago.
